Game of Bones

MOD VOICE:
Heya folks! If you want to discuss the television show, please find or start up a thread for that purpose. This one is an advert for the Game of Bones MU*, so it's not really a good fit for the convo.

This game is still alive.
It remains small, easy-going, player-driven, probably a wee bit too goofy for the theme. Same.
-
@il-volpe I logged Lara on this weekend, will be definitely around more again, especially with more Dornish activity.
-
So is this thing still alive? I've popped on as a guest a couple of times and never seen more than five or so people on. Which kind of sucks, since I'm suddenly in the mood for something medieval-ish/fantasy-based.
-
@rebekahse Yes, it's alive. It's small. A couple of nights ago it had a connect list of 30. Right now it's four.
-
Still alive. It'd be a good time for group apps, it's in a slump and a small group could, at this point, come along and readily push stuff in ways they want to go.
I would also like to 'hire' some RP-staff types. Ones who don't need to do and aren't expected or wanted to do any staff-y stuff besides run plots.

So WTF, did people just stop watching the series this season?
This season? Most people I know quit shortly after little T resolved his father issues. It's just too scattered and the only characters most people liked are doing nothing while all the worst characters get all the screen time.
Like honestly, who the fuck cares about the kid who can take over animals with his eye-rolling powers? No one, cares. Not a single slippery fuck can be given for him or his idiot man servant. The show just became 80% bloat so people stopped watching.
If you want to boost membership make some kind of media presentation that brings people up to speed with that is special about your setting. Just saying, "Game of Thrones like." isn't going to sell it because GoT was kinda lame and poorly executed. Give details to differentiate yourself from the show/book.

You are quote-replying to a post from 2015, which would have been around the start of the season of Game of Thrones that followed the season when Tywin Lannister died.
If you wanna go off about how GoT is a four lines all waiting show and how nobody gives a fuck about Bran and how GRRM takes seven years to write a novel, have a go, though. I still love the show. It's hilarious eye-candy and grand.
GoB isn't "Game of Thrones like" - it is set in that world. But at a different time than the show/books. And it's a MUSH. That doesn't take itself all that seriously.
-
@il-volpe I think Carex is a troll of some kind. It looks like s/he went through some random advertisements and decided to trash each of them to start an argument.

Ok, then make some media, a video to throw up on youtube to explain just how the setting is different, what the tone of the game is like and tell players why they should play there.

If they don't want to take the advice they don't have to. Just making a suggestion.

Am I smelling 4chan again?

I hate it when people make fucking videos to explain things that should be written down. I read several times faster than people speak and find them an infuriating waste of time even when I actually want all the information and am not simply being annoyed because I can't skim to the relevant bits.
I think the original text advert could do with an update but is sufficient to the job and answers the questions you want me to answer in a video, and that you didn't read it. Which is fine. However, neither, "I hate this theme, make an advert that tells me how this theme is not like this theme," nor "make a youtube video advert" is good advice, nor would they be if the text advert were gibberish.
Also, since you don't like GoT and think that explaining how the game is different from something it's supposed to be like will make it more appealing it's pretty clear that it's not the game for you. Doesn't seem like your advice is gonna be all that relevant to making it appeal to people who actually find a GoT game appealing.

Not everyone in the world is the same.
-
Does any MUSH in the world use a video ad? Hell, where would you even post it? It's certainly not something I browse youtube for.
The notion causes me to recollect the terrible novels of Dennis Upkins.
-
Actually. I staffed on a MUSH that used a video ad, back in the day. It was really pretty neat. We were also pretty out of the mold anyways because we were a Star Wars mush that was integrated into the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic where we used the MMORPG plotlines to inform our game plot and expanded on it.
It can be done. Hosted on youtube and posted to places for people looking for your type of game.
Edit to add: I definitely don't think it's necessary. If you have a staffer or player who is into that stuff, it can be fun to encourage that creativity but it's not a component that would sell a game for anyone, I think.
-
-
Huh. Fancy that.
-
@il-volpe
City of hope had a video ad, not sure if that is a fact in support or opposition to any other game making one however. -
I'm sort of amazed. But have no intention of making such a thing. If somebody felt like making one for GoB I wouldn't stop them, but I doubt that anybody does.
-
There was a Firefly game that ad a really hilariously bad video ad. I think they pulled it though because of the high comedy it generated.

Why the flying FUCK would a game runner want to attract people whose tastes aren't shared by him or her?! Jesus that's an asinine thing to say!
Take my notional "Red Mansions" game. Twat like you would be telling me I should broaden its appeal for people who aren't interested in ancient Chinese manners dramas. Despite that being, you know, THE FUCKING GAME I WANT TO FUCKING RUN.
