I'm kind of surprised we don't have one of these. And didn't on old WORA. I know of a few of us who do crafty things.
Anyone got any craft-hobbies they want to talk about? Recently I've picked up tie-dying, and sewing. I made three pillow cases last month for christmas presents, and before that made a skirt for myself. I've tie dyed a handful of things.
The lastest project being a galaxy dye in black (though there's a lot of blue and purple that came out from the black dye), that's slated to be a skirt.
I've contemplated picking up knitting at some point, but I'm not sure I'd like it. >_> Sewing can get tedious enough.

@Cobaltasaurus - knitting is a pain in the ass for me. I just picked up a crochet needle today and will see what I can do with it tomorrow. I'm also into baking and cooking. Newest project is elephant sugar cookies with royal icing for my baby shower. I don't think this will end well, but I have less than a week to practice.

Don't know if it qualifies as crafty, but I do wheel pottery and fire raku style. Though in fairness I have not done so in over a year due to pregnancy/noob crap. I am itching to get back into the studio though.

I like to bake and cook as well. The last thing I did recently was to make chocolate pudding from scratch. It was good! And surprisingly easy. I do gluten free peanut butter cookies sometimes. But otherwise baking a lot of things requires way too many things. I like simple recipes. >_> Like 5 ingredients!

This is definitely not professional quality, but I like it. I dyed it myself, and sewed ... stitched? I did the sewing myself.
Unfortunately it is a little bit short, so it'll be a skirt + legging skirt, definitely. Unless there's someone out there shorter than me with about my waist size who wants it.

...this. So much this. My house is art supplies holding hands. Seriously. There is an antique four-harness loom on the porch the size of a four-poster queen bed that no one has touched in 20 years but by gods, we have one.
I knit (passably).
I crochet (badly).
I dye yarn (now professionally, apparently... nothing like a job you didn't expect to have three weeks before you had it and RL giving you dots in a mentor who is surprisingly kickass and wouldn't be out of place in WoD for a second).I went to college for costume design and can sew, make patterns, and do a disturbing number of techniques of surface embellishment when I can be bothered to touch any of it at all. (And if I can ever be bothered to sew these days, I can be bothered to embellish.)
I bead like a crazy person. Branched fringe and 15/0s all over the place.
I may or may not have actually started salivating while on vacation and I found a shop with anodized titanium-plated hematite; you weren't there, you can't prove it! Nobody saw that!I used to draw/watercolor/pen&ink passably well, but haven't touched it in so long because...
...I love to dick around in photoshop too much, and for a while have been doing skins for 3D models. That's been slacking over the past year because my house has been eaten by yarn and skein winders. (If you ever wondered if THAT bitchy surreality is THIS bitchy surreality, the answer is... uh, yes, actually, since I know some of y'all seem to use the software it's all designed for.)All of this was still totally OK because 'I don't spin' because it's not insanity until then, we're all safe because see there's a still thing nobody in the family does yet...
...until about a year ago, when I started spinning. There's usually a little motorized spinning 'wheel'/machine about the size of a toaster on the desk. I spin between poses at times and people now get to think that is a euphemism instead of the knitting between poses.Oh fucking well.

Also, you'll have to give me sewing tips sometime. So far I've only "mastered" the heart of the square/layered skirt with an elastic waist band.

@Cobaltasaurus That skirt is NOT what I pictured when you said tie dyed. That is infinitely way more awesome. Now I kinda wanna do that!

I'm not terribly crafty. About the only thing I'm decent at is painting ceramics and I haven't done that in ages. I'd like to learn to knit, though. There're so many pretty patterns I see all the time.

My only craft skill is carpentry. I do kind of want to try it while I'm RPing, considering the above suggestion re: knitting between poses.

I have sons who build models (planes, boats, cars, tanks, spaceships, etc.). I have had to make the OOC comment before pertaining to an unexpectedly long time between poses:

It's fair to say the humor of it seemed to make the other person more understanding.

As for my contributions - I cook, and I bake. And I crochet sometimes. And I brew - cider, so far, but probably branching into mead here directly.

I cook and bake, have a degree in Culinary Sciences.
I can needlepoint, quilt (both by hand and machine).
I can sew passably (As in clothing) -
Most of my crafts related hobbies relate to the historical recreation stuff, as such I do in various amounts.
Sewing.(Clothes, duh)
Woodwroking? (I mostly just try and do wood cores for scabbards when the mood strikes, also shields)
Metalwroking/Blacksmithing (Modifying armor, making simple tools and/or components)
Making Chainmail
Leatherworking
CookingI try to learn embroidery but that doesn't go well so far. Is heeeelllll.
Current projects are making new shirts to be worn for casual appearance, most of them are miscoloured and filthy to the point of I only wear them under stuff now. Need to repair my Gambeson, I tore an arm halfway off during the summer. I got green linen lying around for a shirt, also a lot of brown wool which are meant to become trousers and a kaftan.
There are also ideas about sewing a tent, but that's a bit off currently.

I was getting pretty good at tea bowls on the wheel (my hand building is okay but I do not have a great deal of patience) before I cut back way a lot to go back to school and then spawning took me right out. I think I'd be better at it now that my tactile sensitivity and pressure sense is a hell of a lot better (thanks, massage school!) Unfortuantely I tend to fuck up all my best thrown pieces in the firing process, but I have so much fun with it it doesn't matter.
I love raku because you have very very little personal control of the outcome. Also it's fun to set things on fire and toss glowing hot pots into sawdust and then into water buckets, and then peel off the slip like eggshells.
Crazy fun. But it often means if it looks good it looks really good otherwise it's total crap. And you cannot have attachment to the pieces because you never know if they're going to explode or look like shit or what.Unfortunately the process means that most of the stuff is decorative, unless you coat it afterwards. I do have a tea bowl that I use old school (over time the small cracks in the piece are stained and add to the beauty imo) as in just rinsing it out every time, no sugar or milk, just plain tea. I don't like the look of the pieces that are protective coated afterwards, personally.

The black is from the smoke from the newspaper shreds/sawdust/other combustibles. The white part is because it's been covered in slip before it was fired, but as it dries and also during the process the slip will crack in spots. Once it's been fired/put in the burn buckets/plunged into water, then you crack open the slip and peel it like an egg and you get cool stuff or fugly stuff. It's a flat finish.
This is not the only way you can fire, there are some raku glazes too that are little more glossy. Those were fun to experiment with (you still get the neat crackle markings, but the finish is glossy/glazed looking and it can have some cool effects). I made a teeny thing to experiment with that, and here's one of my favorite results, even though the edge chipped and it's a little wonky:

Here's a video of the process used to make the little cup thing (I did my bigger bowl at a later date). Normally I have 4-5 pieces go in to every firing, I'm lucky if I get 1 or 2 out of any batch that I like enough to keep. It's just the nature of the beast. But the video shows why it's so goddamn fucking fun.

Again, phone makes it hard to double quote, thank you! I really like how the dye came out. Unfortunately it does match the tunic I made it for. I got a purple tunic for xmas, and don't have alot to wear with it. So I decided to make a black dye tie skirt.
Unfortunately the black dye separated out into navy and a teeny tiny bit of purple, so it doesn't go with the tunic.
I am not sure if it did that because it was an ice dye, or if the black dye just does.
An ice dye is where you layer ice over your material-- tied into whatever pattern you want --and then you coat the ice with dry dye (e.g powder). As the ice melts it dyes the fabric. Of course it was so cold the fabric froze and the ice didn't completely melt.
I have a bag I tried to ice dye with circles, but it us mostly white, so it needs to be dyed again. Trying to decide between pink or purple.

I did a blacksmithing course. Which was awesome. Would love to do more but time/energy/setup and such makes it difficult.
