One peeve I have with Magical Girl animes and the like is.. WHY DO PEOPLE NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE?! The only thing that changes is their clothes. Everything else stays the same. I suppose it could be explained away that it is that way for the reader/viewer to know who they are but they also see the transformation and the detransformation. I have never seen a magical girl anime that makes visible changes when they power up, outside the clothes.
I rant on this as a girl who is quite fond of Magical Girl things.
Haha, yes. There's even an episode of the original DIC English Dub Sailor Moon where Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars start their bickering like they always do but actually call each other Rei and Serena.
Tuxedo Mask is standing right there, and it's far enough in that he knows he is, but somehow he still has no idea who the Sailor Scouts are.

He is pretty cute in the series.

Different forms of media have taught me that if you throw on a domino mask, change your hair just a smidgen, or change the tone of your voice they'll never know its you.

In the new series it seems to be only Usagi and the bad guys that don't realize who people are. Tuxedo Mask seems to figure out pretty easily that Usagi is Sailor Moon. And when she realizes who he is she's like "how did I never know?!"

@Cobaltasaurus Chibi-USA is an annoying little shit, yup. The manga she is a little annoying but not nearly as bad as she is in the anime.
The thing that bothers me about Chibi-Usa is the weird crush on her father.
-
I just caught up on Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn) and it is awesome. Enough-so that I was tempted to actually read the manga despite my hurty eyes for comics. The princess is a bit "oh save me" at first, but once she pulls on her big girl panties and takes care of her bid'ness, that doesn't happen much anymore. Everyone is snarky in the party and it's terribly funny.

@Cobaltasaurus Yes! It is weird, I can see, at first, her having a crush on him because she 'doesn't know' but once she finds out she takes her crush to the extreme. Again, though, it is not as bad in the Manga. It comes off more as she needs her daddy and just a little crushy. Maybe it'll become like that in the show this time.
@EmmahSue Yes. I love how Hak is extremely protective of her too and that at first, each time, he tries to stop he from putting herself at risk but he sees her resolve and lets her go but is prepared to run to protect her in a heartbeat. I want him and Yona together. Yona is one of the few female leads, at least that I've seen, that doesn't instantly become practically helpless as she gets help/gets terrified.

Yeah, I noticed that.

She doesn't realise it's her father though.

Yes, but as the viewer I know that it is her father. So it's weird. And not at all something that they had to write in. I'm also pretty sure that at somepoint she does realize it is her father but the weird crush persists.
-
@Cobaltasaurus @Luna At first she doesn't know. It's when they go to the future that it becomes clear that Mamo and Usa are mom and dad. Mind, Chibi-Usa is basically 'My mommy doesn't love meeeeee.' all through that part. Despite, you know, Usagi being the queen of all the things at that time. Chibi-Usa is over 900 years you'd think she'd grow up she can't have all the things, even if she's stuck looking pretty darn young.

God, all this talk of Sailormoon makes me want to do a Sailormoon Universe OTT game. -
@Bobotron I'd play it! I was going to do a Sailor Moon mu* with a friend. But, that is a pretty tiny base of players.
-
@icanbeyourmuse Well she does get it honest, Usagi is a huge cry baby meatball head haha
-
@icanbeyourmuse
I mainly like it for the artwork. It's pretty.
If it were possible to grit my teeth hard enough for them to shatter, it might convey one tiny fragment of how terrible I find the art for Sailor Moon.
That's not really a reflection of my awesome artistic taste. I like plenty of stuff with pretty terrible art, and have no basic problem with magical girl stuff, but for some reason the SM art just causes a level of revulsion to the point I can't get past a couple of minutes with it.
-
It is true. @HelloRaptor has an incredibly low threshold for art quality when it comes to the anime he's willing to watch. If SM looks bad to him, there's zero chance I'd watch it, not that I'm a huge magical girl fan anyway.

The legs four times as long as their torsos drive me crazy.
not that I'm a huge magical girl fan anyway.
I mostly just prefer it when they throw down like a goddamn boss.
-
I watched the whole run of Tweeny Witches and the consistency and quality of animation was all over the damn map. As long as the story is pretty good, I don't care a whole lot. The better the story, the less I care.
I ended up not caring much at all.

ARISE CHICKEN!
Alright folks. Anime me.
I recently finished Parasyte: the Maxim, recently. So now I need something new to poke at slowly. Otherwise I'm just going to go back to Samurai Champloo~ Any suggestions?
-
One Punch Man. Streaming at daisuki.
Also, Haikyuu, if you like sports anime. -
-
Hmm.
- Ushio and Tora - Like Parasyte, an anime based on a seminal 90's manga (and my current obsession). Modern supernatural shounen action.
- Digimon Tri - The third part of the original Digimon Adventure, an official sequel after 02 with the main kids in high school.
- Overlord - A dude stuck in an MMO universe turned real becomes the main villain and transforms into a lich.
That's the only stuff I'm watching right now.
@Glitch
I hear good things about Haikyuu, I'll take a look at that. What is it with the sports anime nowadays though? Basketball, biking, swimming, volleyball. All of them have an anime. There's a new one about track about to start too.
