I wonder when I stopped hitting what my grandparents call my crazybone; that spot in your elbow that shoots electricity through your arm when you whang it.
-
@greenflashlight You just jinxed yourself and will hit it soon.
-
@silverfox I almost wish I would. I have forgotten what it feels like.

I woke up this morning, feeling like utter trash. My sugars were double what they usually are (and without any real reason, I had been sleeping, I hadn't eaten anything unaccounted for.. so what gives?) I sat up, and the room spun. The high sugar spins were in full effect.
So I texted the boss, told him I had to try and get my sugars down (test for ketones every time I had to pee, etc) until things normalized. It took 3 hours for my sugars to get them down, and then get them down further so I could eat. At which point, I sat down for a minute...and passed out. Woke up at 1:30, and told the boss that yeah, sorry, don't think today is going to happen.
The man knows I have not been to the doctor. This is NOT something I go to the doctor for - unless they tell me to come in, or the ketones test pops. (because that's bad) But he asks me if I have a Dr's note. I laugh. He asks me if I can go IN to the dr's office and see the doctor to get one. Now, my county is spiking with the new variant, even if it wasn't some whack ass fool's dream to think I could walk in and get to see someone. But what I do have is a note from my dr from earlier this month, explaining in simple ass terms what it means to be a T1 diabetic, and how I can need various things for hyper or hypo sugar levels... including rest.
So I emailed that to him. Suck my nuts, dude. I'm quitting on Friday.
ETA: Running a low grade fever. It all makes much more sense now (I had to find the thermometer)

I have a Rx that got kicked back by insurance for prior auth a couple of weeks ago. Even though is the only FDA approved drug for the treatment insurance denied it. Doctor's office tried repeatedly to contact insurance to appeal, but they were not returning their calls. Called insurance myself to at least try and get things move, got case number, gave to Doctor a week ago. Still nothing from insurance.
I have the suspicion that they are just running out the clock until 1/1 when the deductible rolls over. As of right now I've met the maximum out of pocket so they would have to fork over the entire few thousand dollars (see that part about the only FDA approved drug. No generic.) for the course of treatment but if they wait for the new year they won't have to pay anything thanks to the High Deductible.

@wildbaboons Here's hoping that my insurance does not fuck off like that with the new ADHD script.
-
Some early data regarding the Omicron variant.
-
@arkandel I really do hope it kills a lot fewer people. It's finally getting to the point that even people I know are careful.. are getting it. (My sister and best friend, currently)

I think this is a good sign. If the virus is mutating so that it is more contagious, that's bad; but if these later variants continue to become less lethal, that might mean that it is returning to a common-variety cold again by mutation.

Not quite. The problem is that a much more contagious virus will result in many more hospitalizations especially among the unvaccinated.
The problem with that is of course if you need an ICU for any reason other than Covid-19 you are fucked. Car accident? Fucked. Heart attack? Fucked. All of those beds will have gone to those preventable people who flock to the hospitals when they do get sick.

Whether a virus is contagious is not necessarily correlated with its lethality or severity.
That said, as has been established, my sympathy for the voluntarily unvaccinated is fairly low.
-
@ganymede Oh for sure. However:
New York hospitalizations rise 12% in a day.
Omicron cases pass US peak compared to Delta - "So far, 12 states have had at least a 10% increase in COVID hospitalizations this past week, according to U.S. Health and Human Services data. Overall, the country has seen a 2% increase in hospitalizations."
-
Its not just hospital icu/er care that is affected. I have had an important procedure delayed now 3 times which has definitely impacted my mental health and has the possibility thar it may impact my physical health too, depending.
I dont complain about it bc med staff and providers have enough shit in their lives and they're doing the best they can.
I do think though that if someone ever cares to track other things, people overburdening and already shitty system with covid will have led to a lot more deaths indirectly due to making care for other things less accessible. From routine things catching issues to delay in cancer screening/tests and the like.
-
Again, I see the same message in the articles.
" ... the vast majority of those more severe cases are being fueled by the unvaccinated."
So, here we have a disease that is known to be deadly ravaging a segment of the population that has had access to vaccines for months. We also have a population which remain remarkably stubborn in their refusal to do something that may prevent their death or the death of others.
I know I have compassion fatigue, but I am less concerned about a variant that I have probably caught before than I am about how a segment of dumb motherfuckers are getting themselves and others killed.
But again, 2016, and so on.
-
@ganymede Yeah, the percentage I read about (no citation though, too lazy to look it up) is two vaccination doses reduce the risk of hospitalization by 8 times and a booster shot by 20 times compared to unvaccinated folks.
I completely agree with you about the unvaccinated. Unless they are immune-compromised I don't care. They're adults, they made their beds. Sorry-not-sorry.
But... the real issue is that this doesn't help the rest of us. The unvaccinated will still go to the hospital when they get sick. The hospitals have to help them - it's simply not an option to turn them away, and rightly so. So once the ICUs are all taken then perfectly responsible, vaccinated folks in need of urgent care for reasons unrelated to Covid will not find a vacancy.
-
I'm still voting for vaccine tranq guns or whatever else we have to do.
These idiots wanna play the oppressed victims either way, we might as well be actually doing the thing to make us all safer.

Then perfectly responsible, vaccinated folks need to take control of the powers-that-be and start passing legislation that will ensure that they get the care that they need. This includes supporting and enforcing mandates requiring vaccinations.
But they don't. They sit and quibble about things like fairness and tolerance for people who don't give a shit about fairness or tolerance. And frankly I am tired of being the bigger person when I'm surrounded by idiots.

Working an ourbreak. It is intense, mostly because of short staffing, we actually have less staff than last year. Lots of health care workers burnt out and many nurses have gone agency and are moving to whatever state puts in the highest bid.
Starting to get energy again though. I get energized from crisis. So peeps are wired that way.
There is alot more I can say, but there is still so much we don't know about Omicron that I a bit not sure about it saying it.
But I will say this..
Omicron seems more mild - but there are still some serious cases. People can get it who are vaxxed and had covid before which is not me trying cast doubt on vaccines, it is very likely the vaccines are keeping many cases mild. But I do think it is a reason to still mask up and be careful.
I am quaranting when not at work as a precaution since I am around so much of it. So far tested negative and feel good though. I am vaxxed and had covid last year.

In my household my husband does 90% of the cooking. Not because I CAN'T cook, but because of several reasons.
On the nights I do cook (like today, when there are fucking wildfire evaccuations in DECEMBER and husband must cover them...) I'm reminded of one of the major reasons why I was happy to give up the chore. Mostly because I cannot have the kitchen dirty before I cook, nor leave it dirty after I cook. So on top of the actual prep, here's an easy 20-30 minutes before and after cooking.
DOES ANY ONE ELSE DO THIS?!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeep. I also clean WHILE cooking. Spills are not allowed to sit! If I have to open a package of meat, I must wipe the counter after it has been transferred to the appropriate pan/pot. I make a lot of 1-2 pot meals specifically because I must clean as I go.
