@Ghost Possibly. But I can track their behavior across WoD games. If they're playing on Arx, I haven't twigged to it, and I'm happier for that.
-
@Cupcake I seriously just assume that everyone is, give or take, on every single game. With burner email addresses on wikidot accounts, I used to keep an eye out for people, but I just stopped sooner or later. This isn't a criticism in anyway, I'm just sayin' that at any given time I assume everyone I've ever MU'ed with crossed my path incognito every game I played.
-
@Ghost It's one thing to passively assume everyone is one every game, and another to know for a fact someone you don't want to associate is in a game. It elicits far different reactions in people when they know something for a fact than when they're tacitly willing to admit to a possibility.
"Yeah, sure, aliens could exist."
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S AN ALIEN!"
Etc.

All Witch Hunt wording aside, I think this situation is pretty interesting.
- A number of players won't even play on games she's on, sort of out of protest to staff
- If VASpider were to open a game, she'd have to do it incognito or else word would spread and she'd never get the attendance.
So I've gotta ask constructively, what's the end game, here? Just a bitch session about her, or is there some kind of communal effort to auto-ban and exile her from the hobby altogether?
I personally don't care. I tend to join in on threads that talk about her simply out of a desire to share my experience, warn people of repeated damaging behavior she has, and reminisce about the bad ol' times.
I wouldn't join a game she ran even if Melissa Benoist promised to rock my world every night from here to eternity in her Supergirl costumeº.
º This is a blatant lie, I would absolutely capitulate in that case. But I wouldn't be very active.

She's too busy banging Mon-El's actor. KEEP UP, COIN.

I don't follow famous people's real lives; it gets in the way of my fantasies.

Bans in general are impossible to guarantee. All you can do is either expand your blacklist enough that innocent bystanders are caught by the regexp or pin-point it so much that it makes it easier for a determined uninvited guest to keep coming to your parties, but you really can't keep anyone out of a public game for long.
You can however make life pretty unpleasant for everyone else trying to do so.
-
And, you can get rid of someone as soon as you've verified it's so-and-so.
-
@Arkandel You can use known IPs and make it clear they are not welcome. If they try to circumvent this, add their current one and yank them off the grid. (IMO, trying to circumvent a ban should put a player on the shitlist.)
If someone thinks they're banned in error, they are always welcome to discuss it with headstaff.
Imo, to avoid blocking out innocent players, that list needs to be as narrow as possible. Edit: that risks the player showing up again, but they usually out themselves eventually with the behavior that earned the initial ban.

Known means nothing though. Rogers is my ISP right now, and so are literally millions of people in my city alone; it's trivial to switch to a different IP within the same block by cold booting my modem even without any more technically involved approaches.
It's just a crapshoot. IMHO if talking to the player first and letting them know they're no longer welcome doesn't work, and they continue to try and log on, you're in for a ride.
-
@Arkandel You can ban a lot more specifically, fortunately, and thus keep folks in the same city separate.

@Ghost This is why when I first log into a game, I name the charbit Ataru. It might get renamed after I come up with my concept, but I like to be transparent about who I am. If people know me from here and want to say hi, great. I just got into that habit.

I do the same thing. Except I use "Ganymede," of course.
-
@Ganymede I use "Arkandel" as my universal @alias these days. It makes things easier for everyone.
-
@Arkandel I only play as women. I've tried male characters lately but, c'mon, we are largely pretty boring.

Changeling is one of the few WoD settings I have been interested in, but I don't have any of the books. Do I need the books to know what I am doing to play here?
-
The information is out there if you hunt it down, and the in game helpfiles are incredibly well done -- better than I've seen most places. There's website links that condense most of the important stuff into easy to read format that cuts out the fluff of the books too, which most players will happily link you to. Head Staff have been very helpful to me as I've floundered through making a 'ling here. I'd say, log on and give it a go. Chat to people. Nothing to lose.

On the whole, for any RPG, read the book. If you have to borrow it from someone you know online, try to do so. If you like Changeling, throw some money Onyx Path's way just like you would any artist you enjoy.

@Pondscum is right: the FH wiki is amazing in terms of info, and there are some key changes around Kiths, HRs, & custom Contracts on the gwiki which are essential reading.
But @Thenomain is also right: read the books. They're essential'er reading, and more than that, they're pretty well written. You will get a million-times-a-bajillion more enjoyment* out of the game if you've dived into the splat books. They're very rich with theme & setting & tone, and that kind of flavour only adds to collective funtimes.
