I didn't think I cared enough about Spider-Man 2 to give a shit that they got Alfred Molina to reprise his role, but the trailer nevertheless freaked me out with joy when he appeared on screen. I'm trying to dissect my feelings about that now, after the fact, to understand why it gives me so much pleasure that an actor I generally like but have no attachment to is returning to a role from a movie he was the best part of but that I otherwise have no attachment to, for a franchise that's fine enough to watch but that I have no attachment to.

Either I am misinterpreting what things I have attachments to, or the advertisement business is hacking my brain to trick me into artificial hype, and I honestly can't tell which.

Maybe it's a subconscious thing.

I have watched all of the live-action Spider-Man movies at least three times, and of all of them Spider-Man 2 holds up the best, with the possible exception of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Doc Ock is a relatable villain, which one cannot say about Green Goblin -- either Dane DeHaan's or Willem Dafoe's -- or Electro. So maybe it's your brain saying "yes, this was the best one you could have brought back."

Of course, I'm hoping that Willem Dafoe does come back, even though I was fond of Dane DeHaan's Goblin.
