@sockmonkey I enjoy unreliable narrator stories.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

@ganymede Snyder is no longer attached to the DCEU as I understand it. JL was his last movie for them. So... here's hoping.

But hey, Wonder Woman didn't suck. It was actually pretty great. And I get to bask in the smug glow of the fact that DC has gone from "Nobody will want to watch a Wonder Woman movie!" to "Wonder Woman is the only thing that's working around here!"

Now let's hope WB is smart enough to let Patty do her stuff in fucking peace, because she's shown she knows what she's doing, and we'll hopefully keep getting more awesome Wonder Woman movies.

And the Amazons will probably go back to wearing their better costumes instead of those leather bikinis seriously Snyder/Whedon what the fu- aaaand breathing.....

MCU Thor reminds me of the things I loved about Christopher Reeve's Superman. And I'm glad someone does, because the DCCU broody miseryguts Superman doesn't work for me, like, at all.

JL is worse, though, because Superman also now has Uncanny Valley Face Lips. It really is rather disconcerting looking at a man and getting the impression that his face is this close to violating Eucledian space. But not quite.

Wasn't there something about him having a moustache during filming and them having to edit it out digitally?

I just came back from Justice League. It was actually good - much better than I expected. It could have used a better villain but the character work was convincing, and I can't tell how I feel about the Whedon-dialogue parts being as distinctive as they were.

@sg during the reshoots I think. He was called in to reshoot scenes while he was in the middle of filming another movie that required him to have a 'stache.

At the time of the reshoots he was filming a movie for Paramount and Paramount wouldn't allow him to shave his moustache.

The result is, of course, 50 Shades of what the fuck is going on on your face? But hey, at least Superman is back to being a beacon of hope instead of a walking advertisement for antidepressants. That's a plus.

Now we just need to hope that they line a good director for the sequel so it's not a mishmash of two different visions trying to push each other off a cliff. Maybe they should just give it to Patty. Patty knows what she's doing.

                        So in non-comic movie news:

I just saw Logan Lucky a day ago. And I found it to be a fun movie to watch. Not something to take seriously but it was quite enjoyable for what it was. I recommend it.

Oh! Logan Lucky was good stuff! Kinda like redneck Ocean's Eleven. Soderbergh financed that himself, right? So it's basically the movie he wanted to make without studio interference.

                            I've got a playlist!

He did yeah. In fact there was a news blurb in the movie that called it Ocean's 7-11 and I think it was right. It was great.

There may not be a sequel. Justice League is doing pretty badly/average in the box office, and since the company itself is undergoing a change of ownership... no one really knows where the chips will fall when it's all said and done.

Wonder Woman will definitely get a sequel and I think Aquaman is already decided so it'll happen, but anything else - from The Batman to all the other spinoffs are probably a much harder call.

Here's to hoping they give a spinoff series to Jemaine Clement. Taika Waititi did a fantastic job with Thor: Ragnarok, and kiwis have been showing, on the regular, that they are gifted when it comes to stories about superheroes and Gods.

@ganymede I do hope though there's room for something falling in the range between light-hearted and edgelord-dark. I really liked Thor but I'd like a more serious take for the next JLA movie (assuming there is one, of course).

They really need to borrow a page from Marvel's movies if need be. Civil War did it as right as it can get; it was epic, lots of characters on screen, and yet the narrative worked and nothing really felt out of place.

(Spoiler free) For me, Justice League succeeded on the character bits but failed big time on the story itself. I never understood the urgency or just what the bad guy's plan or timeline was. And so much CGI, too... nearly none of the fights had any meaning for me. Is this nameless CGI monster among thousands of its kind going to kill Batman? GEE I DON'T KNOW IT JUST MIGHT.

When Wonder Woman is considered the most light-hearted of the series, there's a serious edgelord-dark weight on the entire franchise.

Comic books can be grave and serious, and still have some fun. Even Logan had its fun moments.

Give a light-hearted script for The Flash, and put that out earlier. Maybe even do something light for Cyborg. Hell, I think the best idea I've heard is taking Aquaman, and making it a version of Russell Crowe's Fightin' 'Round the World.

@arkandel I think Batman is having the same issues as The Flash as far as standalones go. No directors interested.

@jaded There's a rumor Ben Affleck is no longer interested in playing the character.

I mean I can sort of get it since he, unlike most of the superhero casting choices we've seen in the last few years, didn't start out being a big star (even RDJ wasn't at the time, it was in the beginning of his comeback). As such he wants to be doing different things, explore his creative options and... well, let's face it, he doesn't need the paychecks as much as say, Chris Evans or Gal Gadot did when they were about to get their solo films.

Rumor has it Jake Gyllenhaal may succeed him. Dunno if it's just something a random journalist came up with and it just caught on though.

@arkandel I read that same rumor but I could not find anything to corroborate it so I did not just want to toss it out there. But he did leave the directing spot for the movie, and I think Kevin Smith gave a pretty good reason as to why. Because whomever directs and makes the next Batman movie will have their movie held up against The Dark Knight, and Affleck did not want to take the hit for the next Batman movie that would have to suffer that comparison, especially in the direction the DCEU movies have been going.
