I miss working in health care except when I think about it.

@macha I'm in medical billing so have to deal with the same situation. Most people understand that we just need the patient's permission to speak to them once it's explained it's the law. But, just like with the Mu* community, some people are just assholes. They're everywhere.

We're losing our guest teacher to another building with greater needs, and a lot of people are sending out the 'we will miss you!' emails...

I just can't guys. I won't SAY THIS ALOUD anywhere she can hear it, but seriously, she did some real damage to at least one of our classes she long-term subbed in at the start of that year. THREE students had to be removed to keep the peace. Not one of those three have had issues with the new teacher.

She also always carried this aura of sour vibes around her. Just lots of negativity.

          So I can't say I'll miss her. I just... won't say anything.

I work for public health insurance. I have a lot of cases with older people, some of whom do not speak English. No big, we have Lionbridge we can use.

But when I call, I get the son/daughter/whomever, and they're like "Well, I'm so and so." ... I'm like "Well, that's great, but I asked for X." ...but I can't say that. But I have to speak to the person I asked for, it's fucking HIPAA. But these chuckleheads - they will fight you on this, and it's so fucking annoying. They will insist "Well, I handle everything for them." Sure, you might, but the fact remains, I need their permission to speak to you about their case, unless you go through the paperwork, and get put ON FILE that you're an Authorized Rep (which they never do).

            Just... UGH.

When I used to have to call medical or financial institutions for my grandmother, I'd introduce myself, explain the relationship, give her personal information, and then hand the phone to her so that she could authorize it with them. She was always confused about this, and she often got chatty with the agent if they let her, which sometimes gave them trouble getting her to give the phone back to me. She just wanted to cheerfully small talk them. They were always a bit charmed. It was a reasonably painless process, too.

@silverfox I have seen and experienced this from the student AND parent side of things. There are times where you really, really just want to do a BYE FELICIA! thing and man is it hard not to just... cackle with glee at not having them around.

Of course, this shortens the timeline I hoped to have. I need to replace my office chair /stat/. The one I have is 6 years old, and been through 4 moves, and it's just.. beat.

Damnit. But hey. New job! (I refuse to let go of that)

I have decided on new office chair. It has everything I need, including the weight (I have to always keep in mind there may be a 75 lb dog trying to get into my lap.)

Now to figure out how to allocate the monies, when I am now between paychecks. Oi.

Husband put a super expensive gaming chair on his 'wish list' that we send out to families when they ask what he wants. There was never an expectation that someone would buy it for him, but it sat there as a reminder that SOME DAY he wanted to buy it.

My parents bought it for him and it has changed his life. Less knee pain, less back pain. I wish we hadn't waited!

@silverfox That's awesome. There's a chair I super want someday, but that's a long way away before I can justify the expense. (Stupid Secretlabs and making a chair I want so bad)

My big 'want' for the chair is one of those ones with the foot rest part. I have short legs, so sitting in the chair properly at a height to the desk... and my legs get to feeling all weird. I don't have room under the desk for like an ottoman or anything. So it's been an interesting thing to try and find something to work in the interim.

The one I found isn't stupid expensive, and has over a 4 star rating, with over 9k reviews. But it's still 140 bucks or so that is just not in my budget, atm.

But now that I'll be WFH permanently, I need to make sure I have things that will make it tolerable. I can live without a better desk set up for a while. The chair is first and foremost. Then a new chair mat. Then a new desk.

@macha Have you tried adjustable foot rests separate from the chair? I've had work chairs that came with them.

The sad thing to me about people wanting nice chairs is every office I have ever known had dozens they were throwing away, but they would never give them away or sell them.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

@misadventure I have not. Simply because the chair needs to be replaced, and 140 + tax is hard to beat, even without the footrest

Link me this chair. I paid more than that for the one I have now and I kind of hate it.

And of course, after complaining I can not budget 140 for a new chair right away.. I got a new approval on a credit card. Hah.

My Secretlabs chair was nearly life changing, because sitting in it never hurts me. Definitely recommend.

                                            @reimesu No sweat!

@Sunny They've got the one I really really want, but only in pre-order. It doesn't even come out until May. (LoL Jinx chair). And my current chair isn't going to hold up for that long.

Also, they want me in the small chair for my height, but that's for under 200 lbs, and the dog jumps up to try and get my attention at LEAST once a day. He + my ass is over that.
