@JinShei NP. I think my ONLY complaint is that CBS all-access is 5.99/9.99 a month (9.99 no commercials) and that Picard is dropping 1 episode a week, so I can predict exactly how much I'll be paying to watch the whole season of Picard.

I decided that I'm gonna stick with watching this one as each episode drops to SUPPORT the show in hopes that there will be a 3rd season (season 2 has already been greenlit and online I guess Stewart offered Whoopi to join the cast!), but Netflix has spoiled me with being able to pick a show up and binge the fuck out of it in 3 days.

Not a fan of these mini-Netflix services, but Picard IMO is worth the cost more than Discovery is. I'm biased, though, because I think Trek should have never left the Prime timeline.

@Ghost I'm watching on amazon because we don't get CBS here. It is becoming a problem for us though - netflix, amazon, and sky just to watch a few good shows. BBC is at least still producing good stuff for us over here (apart from the horror that BBC America has shown so far of the Discworld travesty). I begin to see why people share passwords!

@JinShei Is Musketeers as good as I'm told it is? I've been circling it like a vulture but havent committed yet.

I would love access to Sky to get my Karl Pilkington fix.

@Ghost I haven't watch it yet but I will throw myself at that later to report back! (If I can get the remote from my daughter who has moved back in)

BBC The Musketeers from a few years ago? It's a lot of fun.

Did ST:D confirm that it's not in the Prime timeline? I stopped watching during season 2. Plan to get back to it, but I've got a lot to watch. I'm thinking about getting CBS for a few months for it and for Picard.

Loved Picard, only qualm is that hiring an actual fight choreographer made it feel non trek to me. I miss the janky palm strikes and double axe handles. But it's such a minor cost of admission to get TNG fanservice I don't mind it that much.

@SG I haven't watched the first episode yet but the complaint I heard was that it's "not in episodic fashion".

I mean I get it... but shaping the narrative of an 80+ year old Captain coming out of retirement to do random missions every week doesn't make sense. Unless Picard put all his money into a bad investment or something and he needed the salary to save his farm.

this was the #1 complaint I heard about Discovery too.
I get it. Trek was episodic. Whatever.

@Auspice Well Picard can't be episodic. It's like expecting Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry to come out of retirement in his 80+, barely able to walk, then work random murder cases. Why would this ever happen?

@Ghost watching musketeers. It is well worth it.

Watched first Picard. Also worth it.

I told myself I wasn't going to get CBS All Access. I refused to give them my money.

And then I read the initial reviews on Picard. And I realized, I couldn't deny the fact that I had been asking for this very show, for years. Finally something that goes further into the Prime timelines post ST Nemesis. Which is exactly what I've been asking for so goddamn long.

And it did not disappoint. I feel vindicated in how many references I understood from the number of times I watched TNG in its entirety. Looking in Picard's vault made me squeal in a way I am not ashamed of.

I passed on Discovery because I think it's a load of bullshit which abused and disrespected so much of Star Trek's lore(Klingons, spore drive for starters).

Firmly believe that Star Trek has righted it's current course with Picard. It's like everyone involved understands what has been established in the past from previous movies/shows and respects while also playing on and continuing from the last point.

I will watch the shit out of this. I haven't been this excited for something Star Trek related in....hell, a very very long time. Probably not since the premier of the last season of DS9? And then I'll probably watch the new Twilight Zone before ditching the subscription. All Access will get my money for now. And like with how I ditched Disney+ after I finished watching The Mandalorian, I'll do the same here.

I am ridiculously hype on Picard. TNG was the Trek I grew up with (to the degree that Geordi being "the guy from Reading Rainbow" was actually a major selling point), and after much meandering through all the movies, prequels and reboots, this feels like it's actually landed. This isn't to say I've hated all the other stuff (the JJ movies are fun), but they've felt like something else. Understanding Picard is so essential to understanding post-Kirk Trek, since he really set the tone for it as a series about diplomacy, exploration, and science over space Western pew-pew Kirk punching Lizard guy goes here.

And I wouldn't want a new episodic rehash either. I think that's the challenge they've faced, since TV has moved away from that a lot and the audience has higher expectations in storytelling.

I had some concern in the trailers since they leaned a little hard on the 'powered girl kung-fu' sequences and I was worried it would be trope-y Whedon-esque shit, but having seen what that plot actually is, I'm on board. Stewart is among the best actors working, and it shows. The Daystrom scene nailed Trek-science feels. I also like how they've built out Earth and Federation life a bit, since there was little of it in the old shows.

                                    And the final shot? OHSHIT!

I have the dorkiest reason ever for having gotten into the 90s+ era Trek. I have a fairly uncommon RL first name. Once in the wee hours of morning, flipping channels, there was a "Wait, <my RL name>, stop!" from the television, so with a spectacularly baffled expression on my face, I did. It was TNG. I was thereafter very glad I did, since other than catching a few of the old animated ones on Sunday mornings as a kid, I'd never seen any of it.

Seeing where it's been going in recent years especially gives me much joy. bored pretty much nailed why, so I won't repeat it, beyond a 'yes, allllllll of that'.

                                      Oh fucking well.

Star Trek was always way too campy for me, and not in the good way. I never really understood the fandom, but I respect that we all have different tastes. I liked the Discovery one, though, and I did enjoy the new movies. Probably for all the reasons why they're not high on real trekkies' lists.
