Good TV

The Orville is by far my favorite show on TV right now with The Rookie coming in second. The Orville makes me feel like I'm 15 years old again watching TNG.

Someone, please tell me I am not the only one watching Doom Patrol.
I'm finding it wonderfully absurd, but with a fair measure of soul, too.
(Yes, I have a weakness for the 'team of misfit fuckups' trope, deal with it.)

Doom Patrol is some of the best stuff on TV atm.

@Coin I managed to sell the husband on it with just the recap section of the second episode on comedy, and he's a hard sell on anything I like watching. (He remembers the comic as all around depressing, so it was not an easy pitch.)

@surreality
My husband and I are totally watching Doom Patrol. It is... the far superior version of Legends of Tomorrow in terms of general WTF goofiness. But unlike Legends I don't typically want to claw my brains out. I don't know what made them decide to make all of the characters either one-dimensional or stupid (Often both. Nate. UGH. Nate can FOAD already, and I despise his "bromance" with Ray ((Who lost at least 100 IQ points between Arrow and LoT)).) Plus it has Alan Tudyk. That's an automatic +20 points.Actually, I think goofiness is the wrong word. It's actually, well. Surreal.
Edited because I apparently think arrow is spelled like Aaron.
-
@AeriaNyx I still love me some Legends, but simply because it is so cheerfully derpy.
This season is letting me down some from last, though, which is a shame, since it had such promise. (And the unicorn will never not be funny to me.)
I think if they hadn't gone in the weird military/gov't agency direction, it would be considerably better. That just vibes 'wrong call' so hard.

Mr. Nancy is the cowbell of American Gods and I am ready to die on this hill.
Why isn't Orlando Jones considered a national treasure?
-
-
He is, perhaps, the only thing that has stayed true from season 1 to season 2.
-
Umbrella Academy Season 2 is official, woo.

@Sparks
Did anyone else notice the narrator for When The Yogurt Took Over, was the voice actor for Brain from The Animaniacs? -
@Jaded Oh, yes. The narration for that episode was immediately and quite clearly either Maurice LaMarche or someone doing a very credible imitation of him.

What We Do in the Shadows is amazing. Amazing.
I love Matt Berry, and I love me some Psychic Vampire.
-
With its latest episode, Doom Patrol has really cemented itself as the best television series of 2019 so far. Easily. I think really only Legion might be able to match it, and I'm honestly just not convinced it can. American Gods could have but this season is falling super flat in the most crucial ways (other stuff is fine).

^ So much this. I am annoyed that I have to yell at people about giving this one a shot, but it's surprising how much I have to.
They balance out the seriousness, humor, tragedy, and mystery better than anything I've seen in years. It is also very good at sneaking up and kicking you square in the feels.

Why does no one show love for Into the Badlands? It's an amazing show, and I'm super bummed that this is its final season.
-
@Cupcake It's a CRIME (IMO) that Badlands is ending. It's a super slick show.
My friends and I were chatting the other day that we'd love to see a Highlander series done in a similar style.

It's not that there's no love, it's just that I am tapped out for love for Into the Badlands after two years and honestly, as good as it is within its genre, there are things that are, IMO, stylistically and conceptually blowing it out of the water (see: Doom Patrol).
But I do need to catch up with Sunny and the Gang.

Fosse/Verdon. I really loved the first episode. Man, Fosse was such a dick.
