I work in theatrical marketing, but we use a really stupid ticketing platform that doesn't allow me to place a tracking pixel on our ticketing pages. (Bit of code that helps track from when someone clicks on something online and follows through to eventually buy a ticket.) Super duper valuable for being able to say whether or not your online advertising is having a positive return on your investment. One of the BIGGEST BENEFITS of digital advertising is SUPPOSED to be that you can track EXACTLY how much money you're making off of it. The fact that I can't do this right now (without upgrading to the newest version of the ticketing platform for, you know, around $40k) is MADDENING. We're likely going to switch our ticketing platform after next season, at which point that issue will be FIXED, but for now I'm having to work around it.
Facebook has an option to let you basically upload purchase data and they do their best to match it to people who have seen or interacted with your ads. For the first couple weeks I started uploading data, it didn't match to any events on their end. But in recent weeks, it's finally starting to populate, and I can now give ACTUAL CONVERSION NUMBERS on some of these ads. It probably sounds dumb, but this is SUPER DUPER EXCITING for a marketer.

@roz Nice workaround there! I would expect Facebook to trumpet more about such a capacity.

My youngest has many nicknames. He earned a new one today when he burst through my bedroom door while everyone was taking naps. I was in the process of getting fresh with Mrs. Faceless as the door flung open and in he charged, climbed onto the bed, and proceeded to leap onto my chest and face.
Special Agent Cockblock was born.
I kind of wish that I could draw so that I could turn him into a comic book character.

It's my turn to GM for my tabletop group and everyone voted for Warhammer fantasy this time around. Renegade crowns is awesome for creating detailed settings in a jiff, and while working on the map, I was reminded of the Cartographer's Guild website.
Blowing the dust off of the bamboo tablet and firing up photoshop again to follow along with their tutorials is a LOT of fun. When I get home tonight, I'm probably going to work on the map instead of firing up a video game like I usually do.

If you use Facebook at all, I highly highly highly adding this page to what you see on your feed regularly. It has done me a world of good to see the stories of good people doing good things multiple times a day. Helps break up all the rest of it.

Late Saturday night, I signed up for a Tuesday evening Meetup event for beginner-level tennis players. At the time, it seemed like a great idea but when today rolled around, I was like:
Everything about this seemed like a bad idea; I'm an introvert who loves her couch and being toasty-cuddly-warm and --
- It is a physical activity
- It is with a bunch of strangers
- It is going to be cold AF
In the afternoon, I went to cancel my RSVP but someone else had already canceled and if I did so as well, it would have put the entire event in jeopardy because there wouldn't have been enough people. So I decided to go ahead with it but I was freaking out about it for the rest of the day. What if I sucked? What if no one liked me? What if it was awkward? Whhhhhhy did I sign up for this why why why?!
YOU GUYS. I HAD SO MUCH FUN.
I'm going to go back next Tuesday and do this again.

Mrs. Faceless went in to visit HR at her previous employer, to resolve some issue with her 401k. If you're playing the home game, it was mentioned by her former management that she would walk around the office like she was "Mrs.Faceless Fucking McFacelessface".
So she went to the office and was promptly swarmed by roughly 15 people wanting to see her, elaborate how much they've missed her, how things have ground to a halt in some areas because she's not there to answer questions, and other stuff.
Rando: "I really miss you, I wish you hadn't been let go."
Mrs. Faceless: "I've missed you all too, but it's okay! I had a couple interviews lined up within an hour of being let go."
Rando: "Well, that was quick!"
Mrs. Faceless: "I have a couple offers from..."
Rando: "It's been ten days..."
Mrs. Faceless: "Yeah, well, I'm Mrs.Faceless Fucking McFacelessface. That's what I do."This amuses me primarily because I know it will get back to her former management and when they receive the news this morning that Mrs. Faceless' unemployment will go through because, per the State's investigation, there was no wrong-doing on the part of Mrs. Faceless? They're going to be sad. It'll just be made all the better when the gossip of what exactly she said during her visit, gets back to them.
I love that smart ass. Her sarcasm is majestic and fucking beautiful.

This guy on the bus has a magnificent beard. I can't stop staring.
Pretty sure he noticed.
I don't even give a fuck.
-
Hey now, a great beard is a work of dedication and art.
-
@misadventure said in RL things I love:
Hey now, a great beard is a work or dedication and art.
It's true. And I can tell when a full beard is well-maintained. This one was.
Was hella disappointed when he got off the bus. >.> Ahem.
-
A magnificent beard is made to be admired. So long as you weren't doing thisI doubt he minded.
-
No, but I was totally planning to tell him 'nice beard' when I got off the bus except he got off a couple stops before me.
Woe.

Sometimes my brain does really dumb, awful things to me. And then sometimes my brain does really amazing, wonderful things.
Like the ridiculous shit it spits out at me first thing in the morning, pre-caffeine.
I received an email from an activist named Dan Doubet. Somehow, my morning-brain interpreted that as "Dan Douchebat." IDEFK, but sure, brain. We're going to go with Dan Douchebat. Because Dan Douchebat is amazing.
-
@aria My brain does similar things, especially with road signs passing too quickly.
I live near too many 'Penns-'things for this to not be giggling to myself in the car a whole lot, since my brain is convinced we pass the Penis Grove Winery at least once a month or so.

Family business needs an in-house server as it grows. Quotes ranged from $2400 to $15000 for hardware, server software and services. Bear in mind that this is a basic network server. Centralized accounts, net shares, proxy server, the sheer basics.
Bought Quad-Core Xeon w/ 16GB RAM on NewEgg for $225. Linux OS free.
Sometimesit simply, and literally, pays to be able to DIY. -
I love that Nancy Reagan is still dead.
I just felt the need to express that.
-
@admiral Because of course that's a thing.
-
I do not think this would not help do what they think it would ideally do, but that someone tried makes me snicker merrily anyway.
Oh, mediawiki. I just can't quit you.
-
Got a bottle of nice beer out of the gift exchange at the office. This abides.

I guess this counts as a RL thing since it happened on an OTT and not a mush.
Tonight's D&D session presented me with a chance to have my character - halfling barbarian - to do something stupidly-heroic. Our rogue fell into a gelatinous cube after the plank she was crossing collapsed under her weight. My halfling, who made it across due to being a small being, took the 30' leap off of the ledge and into the gelatinous cube, attacking it on the way into it. And the thing that made it even more awesome was the fact that it was the only course of logical action to take as the way down might've taken too long, she might've encountered more monsters, ect.
Our DM, the players of the other party members and the friend who was watching to see what combat was like were all like 'Are you really sure that's a good idea?', to which I pointed out the logic behind her action. Our DM was super quiet before he said 'Allllright.', like he couldn't believe that I'd do it.
In the end, the two who were still above it slung ranged spells and stuff at it while the rogue and my gal got out of it and went and attacked it from the ground. It worked out in the end and we all got a good laugh over how the 38" halfling rage monster literally threw herself into the monster, all to help someone out.
I love moments like this!
