RL things I love

@Aria I'm pretty sure that'd fly alright in Italy, at least.
-
It is not my fault that the word for "year" (anno) and the word for "anus" (ano) are almost identical.
-
WOOOHOOO
First one - this is the minor one. I just bought an electric spinny thing to clean my make up brushes and I can't wait to use it.
THIS ONE --- This one is my fav of the day.
I emailed my boss a few days ago and I'm like hey these people on the retail lanes need fans. It's hot, and they can't breathe in these masks. My boss is like nope.. too big of an expense but they can buy their own as they need it. I go home and drink and then look at the adult person in my house and am like, I'm going to need to spend $300 on fans. I can't have them up there. The adult person thinks about it a moment and agrees. So tomorrow I was going to buy fans out of my own money.
Today, I'm off work. I get a text from my boss in all caps (this can't be good).
YOU WIN!
Then they proceed to tell me it's hot as balls and they are sweating and they bought everyone fans up front. I have never been so happy that I 'won' something not actually for me. I'm like SO EXCITED. They need them so much.
-
I am so happy for you and for the people you helped. Good job.
-
I concur with Sunny. These are the victories which are meaningful.

Omg, this parent in my class is SUPER CATHOLIC and SUPER CONSERVATIVE. Wouldn't let her read Harry Potter because it had evil magic. (White magic is fine though! Fairies and princesses ftw!)
I never broached other social topics with her, making an assumption based on her religiosity.
I WAS SO WRONG. I'm helping her girlie write a story and the girl couldn't decide if this unicorn was a girl or boy and mom pop's up, "I think it is very progressive to have a transgender character." Then went and described in perfect eight year old language what transgender means.
My heart just so full.
-
@silverfox Oddly enough... that sounds a lot like my mom. She's both super conservative and 'church every single day + one other church-related activity per day (choir, study groups, Catholic book club, saint study group... ) levels of Catholic.
She decided to come out to see me the first Thanksgiving I was in college, since we only got Thurs-Fri+weekend off instead of a week or two. All my friends were gay, bi, lesbian, or trans, and when she found out they weren't welcome at their own homes for Thanksgiving dinner, she cooked a huge dinner in my tiny studio apartment kitchen and invited them all. (Then spent the night after they went home crying that they were the sweetest people ever and their parents not being so proud of what great and amazingly talented people they were had her bawling and angry-shaking.)
Kinda never been more proud of my mom than I was in that moment, so I know this feel, and it really is among the best.
ETA: This was in 1991, too... so not quite as accepting a time.

I hear owls.

I don't know if it counts as RL, since it's YouTube. But a channel I particularly adore is Jas. Townsend & Son. "A channel dedicated to exploring the 18th Century lifestyle." focusing on the United States' culinary history. It brings me joy.
-
Colleague bought me cake for being generally helpful to her. We sat ten foot apart in my garden and had tea. It was a delight. The cake was pretty good too...
Oh, and I watched a bird of prey today (sorry for the upright video, I didn't have time to think). I don't know what it was, but it was beautiful. And we have dinosaurs.
-
Kestrel. Kestrels are the ones that hover like that.
-
@Grayson It was a full and happy one by the time it left the common. It found small squeaky things and took them off. Beautiful. The bird, not the DEATH of small squeaky things.
-
My flurfy snow white doofuscat just sniffed around the takeout, and ended up with a red jello blorb on her snoot.
Even if I couldn't get a picture, this tiny bit of silly is made of pure joy and goddammit did I need it right now.
-
Had my first Arabic lesson. My teacher is smart, funny, easy on the eyes, and thought my "this dog is a doctor" story was hilarious. 11/10, would Arabic again.

I'm going to get a dishwasher! Ours has been broken for almost 2 years, and while I do not mind washing dishes by hand, I'm glad to have a break from trying to keep up with 6 people constantly home now. And to have counter space back since my dish rack/dryer is huge. This has been a shitty week, a shitty month and a shitty spring so I'm going to take what happy RL I can get. Even if its dumb!
-
@mietze That's what child labor is for!!!! However, congratulations!

Back when I had a lawn to mow, I wouldn't mow for three days after a rain.
