      @surreality said in RL Anger:

@Tinuviel I think the mention is that the person may have thought 'A Knight's Tale' (the movie) was 'The Knight's Tale' (the Chaucer story).

Exactly this. He mistook one for the other, so mentioned having read the book. I don't think that that's such a weird remark for her friend to have made.

@Pondscum Sure. It wasn't what he said though, it was how he said it. It definitely appeared to be more bragging than simple revelation.

This could go in the 'Health' thread but it's something I know about... I hate my fibro. I also hate that my body is resistant to most anti-inflammatories. All that works is weed (which I'm out of; I've got some money set aside from my last paycheck and will be going to the shop on Monday) and one prescription drug that... my doctors won't give me, for understandable reasons. It was damaging my kidneys. The others out there just do not work anymore.

The concert last night was amazing, but I am paying for it today. πŸ˜•

I just want to say that sometimes people aren't bragging when it sounds like it. Sometimes they are socially awkward or they are trying to create a human connection (or both). Sometimes they just don't know how to do it or realize how it comes across.

            Someone: I like cats
Me: I once trained dogs in Brazil.

They are like OMG really? What does that have to with cats, but in my head - I was like cats --> animals --> dogs --> I once trained them --> Maybe they will like this and think it's neat and I can make a friend.

Bad example, but the idea behind it hopefully comes across.

A lot is text and we come with our own prejudices about how things 'come across' that the other person in no way intended. We just make assumptions based on our moods and other things when the other person is legit just trying to form a connection. Connections are hard. Finding your tribe is harder.

Had my car checked out before a roadtrip and told it was in great shape.

...a week later and I'm shelling out $500 to prevent my front wheel from seizing up when I'm out on the highway and halfway across the state.

Great job on the check there, guys. I told you I was pretty sure I had a bearing crapping out. Maybe next time believe I have some idea how my car -- which I have driven almost every day for the past ten years -- works despite driving while female.

Do not want to be sitting here on pins and needles waiting for the surgeon to call back and see about scheduling an appointment, but this is unavoidable.

Dear Denial: you work so well for most of the people I know when it comes to real problems being shunted off for far too long, why are you absolutely no help to me now? Augh.

Edit: Dear Denial: Please, come visit, put up your feet, stay a while. I could use your help pretending this whole body horror incident did not just happen, because I cannot even with it. πŸ˜•

I'm in the last 9 months of my degree. It's officially hit the point of taking up a massive chunk of my time and focus.

I have less and less brain power to RP. And RP was already fitting that category of 'all I have time for outside of work and school.'

I'm afraid pretty soon it's just gonna be 'binge watching TV before I pass out asleep.' 😞
Really hoping next class is gonna be one of the easy ones, but I doubt it.

@Auspice I feel ya. On an abstract basis I want to RP; in more practical terms I'm finding it increasingly harder to justify sitting in front of a PC for 3 (or apparently more?) hours at a time posing, or at least until a MU* grabs my attention hard. I'm still doing some small scale personal scenes but it's not the same.

Conversely - reading. Ever since I stopped commuting via train where I've been going through my backlog of novels I've essentially stopped reading too. Which I dislike, but I haven't convinced myself so far to take it up during my 'free' time either.

What really sucks for me is I'm having trouble finding any free time right now. I'm hoping it's just the move and once I'm settled in the new place, I'll have free time again. I know being able to relax and recover (mentally, physically, etc.) is important. I'm not gaming, I'm not going out and socializing, I'm not reading... MU*ing was all I was doing because I could do it alongside the other stuff (like homework and packing). So it sort of worries me that I'm losing the one 'downtime and relax' activity I had. πŸ˜•

This is not so much anger as... extreme body horror?

Minor surgery Monday, and it was just so much more disturbing than everything in the major surgery earlier this year combined on the body horror, making it the official Mondayest Monday I can recall.

Today was 'unpack gauze and refresh dressings'. Dressings were fine for the past two days to change! Not fun or pleasant but totally cope-able.

Today, though. Today. So I thought it was just a small square of gauze to pluck out.

                          I was wrong.

                          So.
                          Very.
                          Wrong.

I like you people too much to discuss the details, which are sincerely gross. Even the people I really, really don't like, I still like too much to inflict the details of this on, but holy shit, I'm eyetic'ing so hard the blinking could kick up a fucking breeze.

Jesus motherfucking Christ, my aunt just told me that my cousin's kid was born yesterday morning.

And the moron named her after a Pokemon. AFTER A POKEMON.

This is what the kids mean when they say, "I can't even", isn't it?

Was it Eevee? That's the only acceptable one because it's at least vaguely close to a real name.

@Aria True story: I knew a couple that were really into black metal (Dark Funeral, Cradle of Filth, Death, Mayhem) and so when they had a kid they named him:

@Auspice -- It was. So at least it sounds normal when you say it out loud. But FFS, couldn't you put Evie on the birth certificate and make all the private jokes you want about her being an adorable little Pokemon? I mean, seriously, at least give the kid a chance at not going through life until age eighteen with her head permanently hung low and a look of mortification every time she has to put her name on paper.

Now that I think about it, I really hope Drakkonis Nagash ends up like this:

My teacher asked for me to give a presentation on modern day effects of historic events
...so I filmed burning her classroom down with everyone inside and told her I'd give it to her tomorrow after the evening news.

Ever change dressings where someone had all of their skin tissue removed? It's kind of fun seeing how the muscles and tendons work.
