It's my (deceased) father's birthday today. It makes the sting of unfunny jokes worse.
The only bonus is I can tell people 'My dead dad's birthday is today' when they do a lame joke and make them feel awful.
-
@Admiral Ah, man that sucks! Sorry to hear about that.
-
Thanks for the sentiment but he was murdered when I was 13 or so, which was over 20 years ago.
So anyways! On another topic:
I hate it when employers pass me over for people less qualified after flat out promising me I was next in line for promotion. Repeatedly.

My last class, our big final project (35% of grade) was to build a website. I had to use a Squarespace trial because two weeks to build a website meant I wasn't gonna do it from scratch and I also didn't have the money for anything else.
At some point, in the last week, between submitting the site/final and my instructor going to finally grade it (final was due the 26th, instructor 'graded' yesterday, the 2nd)... Squarespace had something bug out that put a password on every page on the site.
So my instructor gave me an F and asked me to fix it. But per school standards, if she wants, she could count every day since the 26th as a 'late' day, which would make my final grade a 0 anyway. And if you've been following... F on a grade that's 35% of the total means failing the class.
I keep trying to be angry, but all I want to do is cry.

@Auspice Is your instructor giving you a final of F, or is the mark of F a placeholder until you show the actual work?
Most things done online will show times/dates of last updates. In theory, if you can file an appeal with the prof under the grounds that the system you were using locked you (and her) out of the project, though it was completed.
My cynical experience dealing with post-secondary education is this: if you appeal, you'll almost certainly win, especially if you continue to appeal it all the way up the chain. Eventually you'll get to someone who believes you shouldn't fail students because it gives the sadz, and you'll get the chance to show them your work.
Additionally, if you present information that describes the locking out phenomenon happening to other people (articles, etc), then the prof should be willing to at least hear you out.
I wish you the best of luck, though. Failing because of something outside of your control - and outside what a reasonable person could foresee happening - is awful.

It'll be up to her, in the end. Right now it's a place holder, but it's detailed out that if an assignment is late, we can fix it, but the instructor can count each day late from the original submission.
I think the intent is that they'll start checking things the day after the assignment is due, but the truth I've encountered this far into my degree (300-level classes) is that they usually take a week+ on grading finals.
I will appeal this one. I've never appealed anything before (even the time I was given a D on a writing assignment for the singular reason of 'I didn't really enjoy the story, but it's grammatically correct and meets all the requirements'), but this one is immensely frustrating.
So far, Squarespace is denying it was anything on their end. I've changed my password, but a) I doubt someone would get their way into an account on Squarespace and just password each page, b) I used LastPass to generate the (16 character letter/number/special) password, so that speaks to Squarespace likely having some security issues.

Remembering that two of my favorite musicians when I was growing up died today. Heard that on that radio while coming home. Not exactly rage-inducing, but mildly depressing.

For fucks sake, how can two pairs of panties of the same size/make/model/fabric type/style have one color that fits super cute and comfy and then the other one falls off my ass after I walk for 5 minutes with nowhere for an emergency yank up? Whhhhyyyyy? It's annoying enough that size is a suggestion rather than an actual measurement across brands/styles with brands for women's clothing. I hate reverse wedgies/droopy drawers.
-
That's been happening to me too, but mostly because the elastic in some of my boxers are worn out since they're old as hell. But comfy, don't want to part with them yet.
-
OK, that was... what in the actual fuck.
It is weird enough that the ice cream truck is already making the rounds.
It is irksome enough that it woke me up while I was trying to sleep off some painful dentistry.
But did it really have to be playing 'In The Hall of the Mountain King' in that super fucking creepy and always off key ice cream truck chime?!
I refuse to believe there aren't frozen human body parts collected underneath the frosty pops at this point.
-
If I ever have an ice cream truck I want it to play that!!! Or the bumblebee song
-
@mietze There was one a few years ago that played the Hamster Dance; I forget where we were at the time but it wasn't local. The husband and I just sorta stared at each other and broke out in helpless giggles.
This one was so 'this is a dream, right, this is some post-dentistry horror movie dream involving zombie clowns, it's gotta be a dre--really?!'
-
The bumblebee song but creepily slower with little erratic up tempos?
Mmmm.

Mm. I'd like to hear Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" or Chopin's "Funeral March."

There was one when I lived in Hollywood that played an off-key rendition of Brahm's 'Lullabye'.
Make of that what you will.

Migraine got so bad yesterday I missed the 2nd half of my workday and slept for 5 hours.
Spent maybe 4 hours awake after that to eat and try to do some school assignments. Went to bed early (about 3 hours earlier than usual) and slept a good 10 hours.
Still have the migraine. Not as bad as what stopped me from working, but still no good.
So glad I see the neurologist on Monday, y'all.

apparently cancelling a gym membership is like mission impossible.

That's why you build a gym in your basement and re-enact the training montage from Rocky IV(the best one).
