@Bobotron Update to Win10 for free - problem solved.
-
@Arkandel
That's my plan this morning. Let's hope things don't go insane. I'm trying to go back through the files because, I wanted to make sure something was working and the new laptop gave me an update prompt, but I skipped it to do it later, and now I'm trying to find that update prompt in the system again.I felt roughly like a mutant with anti-tech powers yesterday because of this, as my phone kept having app crashes every time I opened them for about three hours too, last night.
ETA: Found it. Time to update. Wish me luck and send me some Genoshan anti-mutant power blockers.

(My keyboard is toast and I can't buy another until I get paid on Friday. Rage)

Windows 10. BAH HUMBUG. One of my remote desktop programs (Splashtop) crashes Win10 every time I try to connect from my phone. PocketCloud doesn't, which is fine for the iPad, but there is no PocketCloud for my Windows phone

First, second and third problem right there. Maybe even fourth and fifth.

I otherwise love my Nokia Lumia 1020!

Windows 10 update is annoying.
New computer's up and running fine so there's that, but Win10 update seems to be hung up. It says 'Preparing for installation...' and the green bar is at like, i dunno, 20 percent we'll say. It's been at 20% for the past 45 minutes. -

Don't listen to @Arkandel, the win10 start menu is still kind of meh. I'm still using Classic Shell to get my win7 bar back. Works great for both win8/8.1 and win10.

@HelloRaptor
I may look into that. This will be the second attempt to install it where it's locked up. -

There's a Windows 8.1/10 thread I made here, I mentioned a few issues I had. one of the biggest is making sure to disable (or even uninstall) all antivirus. I even had to go in and manually turn off windows defender in a couple of cases, while doing an in-place update.

@HelloRaptor
I uninstall all the default (read: shittacular) antivirus like McAfee and usually use Avast combined with malwarebytes and other run-as-need programs.I ended up getting it; it seemed like it was hanging during the install, as it had finished downloading and was just sitting at 'Preparing for installation...' and the green bar had stopped moving. It finally got moving and got running up really quickly, and it's installed fine now.

Semi-random venting:
Date girl for a few weeks, have slight falling out, remain friends. Feelings grow, she gets a boyfriend. See each other, romance rekindles much stronger. Wait too long, she is afraid to leave her boyfriend and I won't see her while she has one.
Cockblocked by my own morality.

Hate when I'm a good person, sometimes, too
(Legitimately. Not sarcastic) Totally blows. -
I guess good sex is less important than not being the douchebag sleeping with someone's girlfriend.

Interested in you, but afraid to leave her boyfriend?
There is no interpretation of this line that doesn't give me the willies.
Is he abusive?
Is she with him purely for security? -

Is she with him purely for security?tl;Dr she is in the process of divorcing her husband, who was an alcoholic and abuser who she dated for 10 years and was married to for about one. New guy is a drunk and a bit of a loser, but not violent. Shit is fucking stupid.

Jesus. I thought I had issues. She doesn't need a boyfriend, ANY boyfriend, she needs therapy.
And no married people. It can wait until papers are signed. No married people ever under any circumstances ever. EVER. I'm not on a high horse here, I speak from experience. I don't care if it worked out for so and so. Just don't. It can (though rare) get your ass drug into court with them or get CPS up your ass and it's not good for anyone.

In her defense, she is in therapy! I spent pretty much all of July holding out hope. But I am too awesome for that.
