So, I have an about every month/sometimes more board gaming group where we sit around and eat and talk shit about MUSHing and play board/card games. (Our group is 8ish adults regularly, but usually there's like one or two people sacked out/inebriated or chasing children or in a spectator/hang out mood so reliably 5 or 6 people interested in playing at any given time.)
What are folks' favorites as far as games that can have at least 5 players?
We play a lot of Betrayal at House on the Hill, Pandemic, Dead of Winter, Mexican Train...probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Elder Sign, King of Tokyo, Kill Doctor Lucky, Tokaido, CAH, Zombie Dice, Smash Up all have gotten regular rotation. Also the werewolf Mafia-esque game (two people are werewolves, the rest are villagers, every round the wolves get to kill a villager, and then the villagers lynch someone they think is a werewolf afterwards by vote, whoever has the most people left standing at the end wins out of wolves or villagers) as well.
Has anyone here ever played Mansions of Madness? It looks pretty fun (though complicated) so that might be something that people would team up on. Any other game suggestions? (I'd heartily recommend all of the games listed above!)

Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards at Mt Skullzfyre, and Rumble at Castle Tentakill (we just combined the decks and made it one game)
Farkle is the "warm up" game we usually play, just because it's stupid/fun.
If you like deck-building games, Legendary is pretty fun (Marvel game)
We have Mansions of Madness, I think, but we haven't played it yet.... I really want to play Betrayal now... calls people over
ETA: I love Pandemic.... but I hate it so much. Especially after we learned we'd been playing it wrong for a while? Still can't make ourselves play it again. My gaming group always gets it out, stares at the box, kind of shuffles things around, and then puts it back, lol Betrayal at House on the Hill is definitely our go-to.

Well...maybe not wrong, necessarily. We just kept missing when we died, and realized we should have "died" multiple times, when we'd just kept playing. And so we'd play it again, and the same thing would happen. Basically, we apparently don't work well as a team, and it eventually became a little traumatizing, as far as board games go =P
Kind of like everyone always wants to play Resistance, but we have to save it for last, because it pisses everybody off by the end of the night.

Look into We Didn't Playtest This in its various incarnations. And Exploding Kittens is good fun. Both are card games.
If you want to lose your friends try Diplomacy.

Bang! has a minimum player number of 5 IIRC but it's a card game.
Wild west sheriff looking to capture or do in some outlaws.
Fluxx is an interesting card game, Chez-geek for slacking, or munchkin as it's an classic.As for board games, I personally stick to Othello and or Go, so i am not much help in that category.

If you're doing 5+ players, try Illuminati. It's a fun Steve Jackson game that was recently reprinted and it's a hoot. It's recommended for 4-8 players.

Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Munchkin yet... also, Apples to Apples can get pretty hilarious with a good group.

To no one's surprise, perhaps, I enjoy Settlers of Catan, Acquire, and Diplomacy.

Settlers of Catan is a must. Thought that was just a given? Haha =D
One game I've been wanting to play, but haven't yet... Forbidden Desert.
My husband watches a lot of Table Top with Wil Wheaton, to get game ideas. A few of them have been flops, but sometimes there're some great ideas.

I have not played Munchkin sadly. But I have a friend who just bought every boxed set for it that exists. For way too much money.
Another one we have fun with is Nuclear War.
Of course then there's the staple Axis and Allies if you're into simulated war gaming. Not that anyone will play it with me anymore in my gaming group.

If w open things up to war games it does add a few Soldier Kings and Britannia are two that work well for groups and if you want to go really old School War and Peace if you can find it though it is from the early 80s.
Sadly most war games focus on two player rather then group play. -
I should probably add old school Civilization and History of the World to the mix. I concur with Britannia; that game is fantastic.
Battle Royale is a cheesy but amusing game.

Do you mean the original Illuminati where everyone draws from the same pool of cards, or the money-grab CCG Illuminati where you have to build your own deck? I far prefer the former, because you don't have to mess around with the game before playing it.

Settlers is a great gateway game (I'll agree with @Misadventure that the 5+ player version is more fun; Cities and Knights is the halcyon). Acquire is a game that I love to hate. Diplomacy I shall play some day, but my friends aren't that social.

It's a better version of Forbidden Island, and is quite playable with two.
Games in our group's regular rotation (that have not been mentioned yet):
- Eclipse: A version of Twilight Imperium that you can play faster than a fortnight. (Twilight Imperium being the Axis & Allies of sci-fi board games.)
- Alien Frontiers: An insanely good dice-as-peices board game.
- Dominion: I still think this is the best deck-building game. No two games ever the same. Can get old with just one boxed set, but any two (base + intrigue, for preference) and it gets exponential.
- Power Grid: I'm a little surprised this isn't on Ganymede's list, considering its age. One of the few games I've played where being the starting player is the worst position to be in. This works oh so beautifully.
