At will employment is true, but you're still likely to get unemployment here if you're fired for well documented issues. so at least there's that. That's the drawback to at will, you still have to document fuck ups for unemployment insurance, and even so you will likely lose.
@Luna I'm not ever touching the MMR again, not if I can help it. But, given that I have a severe allergic reaction to the pertussin that's in the MMR... no thanks. As it is, I'm not really wild about flu vaccinations because, at least for me, they've never worked -- in fact, they've always, without fail, made me sick with the flu for several days, and then still don't keep me from getting the flu any less.
Some vaccinations, though, I admit are a necessity.
My peeve is working for the fucking government and having to deal with the stupidly unethical behavior of other people without being able to do anything about it (unless I want to lose my job). And then venting to my mother, and being 'reminded' at length that that's just how government is and if I can't cope with corruption, I probably shouldn't be in public service.
I guess my real peeve is that she's right. It's seriously fucked up.

I thought a fiction class would be fun. I thought I'd read some nice stories and discuss them. Maybe write some papers on their meaning.

@Cobaltasaurus There's so much else worth reading in Plato that I'm vicariously pissed off at your idiot of an instructor for making you hate him. Please, trash this instructor in a level-headed, detailed, and specific manner on the end of semester evaluation, because if what you are describing is what's going on, that instructor is being lazy as hell. And I say that as someone who regularly gets trashed on evaluations, although for things like, "History is boring," "I hate having to take this general education class," and "This was too hard because I don't want to read and write outside of class and just want to take multiple choice tests that you tell me the answers to in advance."

This gives me flashbacks to a high school English class, in which we were told to search for 'whited sepulcher imagery' in all the things after reading... Heart of Darkness, I think? For the remainder of the year.

I took American Lit in college. The entire goddamn semester was Tennessee Williams. I was so, so, SO disappointed. Because I hate, hate, HATE Tennessee Williams.

I loathe Hemingway, personally -- the best way I can describe his style is "flatulent."
I love Hemingway's short stories. I think the man was a master of understatement and concise, crisp writing when he wrote short stories. His novels, however, leave much to be desired because his style serves better when it doesn't go on and on and on and on.
His poetry is the stuff of nightmares; I wouldn't subject my worst enemy to it.
The only thing that ever pissed me off about reading and writing was how lazy most teachers tended to be when it came to the Q&A after each story/poem/etc. Reading comprehension questions in particular: no two people are going to interpret the same story/poem/etc. the same way... yet, no matter how you justified your interpretation, if your answer wasn't what the teacher's guide for the textbook said was the answer, you were wrong. End of story.
Stinky pills.
I was recently put on some antibiotics and warned they they might be a little stinky, but that's okay.
They are not just a little stinky, they are super stinky. I'm not putting that in my mouth. Things that taste that bad in nature are bad for you. It doesn't help that things that are brightly coloured WARN you they are bad for you. And these pills are neon orange. And the size of a horse as well.
These are not just a little stinky. These are "If I were to walk into a room with an open bottle and my dog in the room, I would accuse my dog of farting" Bad.
Hold your nose, open your mouth, drink a big glass of water, and brush your teeth after.
I usually hold my nose or breath and chug those sons of bitches down with sprite or tea. SWALLOW FAST, AND GODSPEED.

I think the thing that is pissing me off, even more than doing the same thing every week -- which I hate, I crave new knowledge and experiences -- is that despite doing the same thing over and over he likes to randomly throws 17/20 or 19/20 at me when I didn't change a single thing I did! It was the same thing as last week! Why am I being marked down?
ETA: I was at one point asked to put a character from Kafka's "Metamorphosis" through the Cave Journey. I feel like my time would have been better sent if I had been asked to write 500-1000 words discussing the meaning and symbolism in the story. Rather than writing up how the sister went through an allegory of the cave (which I chose because I found her most interesting, and didn't think any of the characters went through a cave journey).

I had an English lit prof in a theater survey class who loved Tennessee Williams (although to his credit he had us read many other things, including Ionesco and Tom Stoppard). I wasn't quite intending to troll him, but I inadvertently did so when we were watching The Night of the Iguana. If you know the play, the innocent New England spinster Hannah Jelkes tells the story of being out on a boat with a sad and desperately lonely Australian business man who asks her to remove and let him hold an article of her clothing. She did so, and the man was satisfied. The exchange in class went like this:
Me: I think Hannah Jelkes is a Christ figure. After all, the Australian business man touches the hem of her garment and is healed.
Dr. T: (exploding) He was masturbating while holding her panties!
Me: Well, there's all kinds of healing.
Possibly some of my problems with students are simply karma.
My end-class essay was about how every Tennessee Williams play was exactly the same with the same characters and relationships, only with different names.
I went into detail. I slugged it out. I cited everything. The teacher gave me a B and hated me for it. But oh yes, it was worth it. It was -worth- it.
On the subject of literature, I currently have the pleasure of reading The Prince by Machiavelli for my History course.

It's not that simple everywhere, but documenting these events is a good thing. I'd also brush up on your company's policies regarding claiming FMLA leave.
