Last night I found out an old friend died. I havent spoken to or even seen him in ~15 years. We weren't even that close. Except for the fact that in the early months of the year 2000's, when I was near homeless, and he was just a stranger from a LARP group, he took me into his household with his Wife, and Child, and other friends. Through that I met a man who was one of the very few I invited to my wedding.

R.I.P. Vernon you glorious man, incredible DM and steampunk renfaire weirdo. There was much about you I aspire to be.

Vernon and I maintained our friendship until the last -- our decades-old gaming group was wondering where he was for our Thursday night Champions game.

He truly lived up to every kind remembrance left in his passing.

Craft Chocolate TV - We get to watch someone opening a chocolate-making business over years. Plus: We get to learn about making chocolate.

The TRY Channel - I can pretty much watch Irish people try shit for days. And I do.

Townsends - I love this guy. Fans of living history, history nerds, and cooking nerds, rejoice! Often, all three at once!

ERB - Seriously, who hasn't heard of Epic Rap Battles of History.

The Charismatic Voice - As a trained vocalist, I love watching various professionals in the field review music and songs, especially ones I like. Plus, total gamer getting into nerdy bands and videos.

Natalie Gold - There is no world in which watching a nerdy Jewish gamer girl react to videos isn't in my wheelhouse. She still can't match my grandma yelling at the 9ers during a football game, but she'll get there.

Millenial Movie Monday - This girl is hysterically funny and has some of the best outbursts and commentary on the movies she reacts to. Sassy Southern meets Millenial Modern.

The Graham Norton Show - I want to be famous someday just to be on this show.

I will run across lots of reactors as well, like the previously mentioned Jamal, Too Sushi, and Sincerely KSO. I also watch a lot of music reactors as well, like Old Composer and Julia Nilon, though I tend to gravitate to the song rather than the reactor. I'll pick a favorite song and watch reactions to it, etc. What can I say, I love analysis.

Finally getting formally tested. I'm guessing my psych wants to pin it down since it exists alongside medical and other psychiatric fun. I'm a book!

@saosmash Goodwill LOVES me for this exact reason. I bring them stuff with tags still on it, still in boxes, still packaged. Just shrugging because of course I lost the receipt and the item is more than 30 days old because I can never remember to just take it back when I go again and yes I would love a receipt for this donation that I will inevitably lose within 5 minutes of getting home because I put it down SOMEWHERE because there was a smell in the apartment so I changed cat litter and took out the garbage and wiped down everything that might possibly be smelly only to realize two hours later someone across the hall is cooking something Godawful smelling and its affecting my sinuses, so I took some allergy meds just in case that would help and I sat down to handle some messenger and then my son came home from school so we talked about his day and popped some popcorn because he thought it would be fun for us to pile onto the floor and watch Ghostbusters... yeah. By the time the receipt even enters my mind again, I can't even remember actually putting it down anywhere, let alone where. XD

I can't buy clothes without actually going in, trying them on, sizing, moving, and testing them in at least two other ways. Can't do it. I keep detailed notes about which cut, size, and make fits in what way. I have only two times in my life ordered clothing online, and it was solely to get stuff I had already put through my process.

It's like my brain knows how it will go if I don't.

No video game I've ever encountered that I can think of has come close to achieving what FF6 did with character themes/leitmotifs. There are some wonderful, notable video game soundtracks, no question. But what FF6 pulled off is in a class of its own.

Have you played any of Supergiant's games? Bastion, Transistor, Pyre? Their musical direction and use of mood and character themes, up to and including re-recording a song for characters undergoing trauma, has impressed me a great deal.

@atomic I played with you on Dragonlance I think. If I remember correctly my character pretended you were his son. Do you happen to remember the name of the Kender that was always around? Really amazing RPer. Also the name of the 600 year old white-robe elf wizard? There was also the head of the red-robes who was great, a female.

      The white robe was Lhovrik.

It means I don't forget anything and I don't impulse buy.

No force in the universe can stop my impulse buy.

Oh, I can plan. I have to plan or I'll never make it out of wherever I am going with the things I need, that I know I'll forget upon crossing the threshold(I maintain this is the sole use of Amazon -- for the 5 minutes I can remember I need a new toothbrush, or bulbs, or, you know, FOOD, I can log in and click that damned buy button secure in the knowledge that after I forget to get it again, it'll at least be on the way.

No amount of planning seems to prevent the impulse buy, though. Whatever part of my brain allows me to follow that plan or form habits is gone. I couldn't even get addicted to cigarettes in the 90's when I tried.

    • RE: A fully OC supers MU

So, to out myself as a complete nerd:

I got started with Champions in the 80's -- Mutants and Masterminds, to me, seems like a speedy and streamlined(simple) combat resolution system, perfect for online use. Of the recent supers games I played on, those that used the system had pretty great playerbases, and there was that edge of spice you get when you cannot utterly predict an outcome(and usually no narrative arguments).

Additionally, I ran a lot of scenes. The biggest slowdown was never the mechanics of the system; it was, of course, pose lag or slow player response. +rolls and interpretation thereof didn't take long at all by comparison.

That said, I have been looking at a couple other systems. I know that the M&M system has had several MU iterations and has been coded numerous times, and that the other systems if I use them might need some developing from scratch. If there's usable M&M code out there, that makes life a lot easier.

As for actual setup, I'm looking at a couple hosting solutions. If anyone has advice there, I'll happily take it. I figure I'd grab a yearly package and stand it up, then look for assistance with tool code depending on which codebase I go with(again, advice taken).

..and then I'll talk about my other OC supers MU idea. >.>

I am presently learning python for work, but just getting started. Long term, Evennia will probably work for me, if I can find a python coder to carry me until I can make things and not break everything. 🙂

To stick with M&M as the system, I'll have to generate a die roller, charsheets, chargen, and point trackers. I'm guessing most of the standard utilities are repo'd out there somewhere.

I just now discovered Boston Legal. I never watched it when it was being made. I have to admit it has my attention, both for casting and the knife-sharp dialogue.

I'll have to get back to the premium shows at some point, but I needed a diversion and I remember my late father speaking fondly of the series.

I track you now. I was presuming you were using the meat industry breakdown as presaging a larger breakdown.

Frankly I'm all for a collapse of the meat market. We should be eating less as it is.

You can. I can't. I kind of need it.

The wretched bullshit happening in the US right now is a pretty clear example of how brutally corrupt and artificially fragile the economic and supply system is. Gany says it prettier.
