"Still bisexual but now annoyed" is how I'm going to describe Ember on Arx from now on, because it works regardless of context or situation
Teagan is bi.
Yet another perk of Arx: political marriage can be had and you can have your lovers over there, whatever. I'll have mine.Jeez, you don't have to go on and on about it, I accept your proposal, gosh.
I even made you this backpack to ride around in

RE: RL things I love
It just sank in that I get Labor Day off.....and it's a paid holiday.
I haven't had that in a decade. Three day weekend! And no loss in pay!
I'm gonna sleep so much.

ETA: Why do I call myself gay then, you ask? Because fuck you, that's why.
Also because it's just easier. It's easier for me to tell people I'm gay and have them get all surprised when I hook up with a woman than to try and explain bisexuality is a real thing. @Auspice and I have talked about this at length.
You're not allowed to be not-an-extreme.
it doesn't help that in recent years I've come to realize I am also demisexual and holyfuck explaining that to people makes me wanna cry sometimes.

I just want EVERYONE. All the time. Actual compatibility, attraction, etc. doesn't matter. Being bi just means I wanna sleep with everything that moves. SORRY.
I guess I'm bi, then.

As a sidenote, my female Arx character largely prefers the company of other women and is attracted to few men. She got described as boy crazy once, so I must hide the fact very very well. (It helps that she's married to a man. He's the exception.)
I keep telling you commoner marriages are just a suggestion and she should go be a Whisper and pour the best tea.
She will have a 6 in Tea Ceremony.
It's not even a skill but it will be for her.The grumpy bear fractal told me so.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
My life is basically just cycling from 'Galaxy Brain' to 'i dont think u tried at all.jpg' to 'patrick star' and back.
Galaxy Brain is a great way to put it, man. I need to remember that.
It happens to me in meetings all too often.

@Auspice I haven't, though I do think your concerns are warranted. I've met quite a few white writers who asked for my opinions on what they were writing, but what they were writing was such a tapestry of bad shit I could barely unravel it, or they got defensive about certain things. I could take a read of one of these Peter Grant books some time if I find the premise interesting though.
I love the books (tho not in the 'I feel like I'm a good person for liking books with a diverse cast' way but because I like the world and the stories). I think everyone should read them. But I don't feel I can accurately say 'they are a good representation of POC in writing' because I'm white. I think they are, but I can't say it for certain. It's why I'd like to get the thoughts from those who would be able to more accurately speak to that.
ETA: and part of why I'd like it if they are is because it's an urban supernatural series (in a similar vein to the Dresden Files) with a lot of non-white characters (the primary protagonist is a black man!) and that is really rare. Most books, shows, etc. that deal in magic, fantasy creatures, etc etc. in a modern setting are predominantly white. It'd be great to have a series I can point people to (and I DO point people to it because I love the stories) that isn't.

RE: The Work Thread
One of the things I'm struggling with right now is how to present some information/material.
I need to provide a 'software-level guide;' in the sense of an overall introduction to the tool. 'Clicking here does this,' 'these options can be found here'
and while a purpose-made tool (like, say, ClickHelp) would give me an awesome interface to do this..... I don't have that. I have to provide this in a flat, static layout.
And I am just rrrrrrrrrrrrrr-unable to find a way that isn't just puking info at the reader.
Making training materials intuitive is fucking hard.

This was about my char on HM and that person who got really really mad that as a Maori (in a modern day setting), my char knew how to use a bolas?
Because yeah. That was really... really just, well: dumb.
And if it's happened other times than that: also super dumb.

@Auspice I battle this by taking minutes-style notes in every meeting. It works great until I realize I've been editing the notes for 20 minutes while the meeting kept happening.
Yup.
That happened to me last week, in fact.
'Okay I'm gonna note this down- oh that reminded me of this other thing I need to notate but it also needs to be fleshed-out and cross-referenced- oh shit it's been 20 minutes what are they talking about- ok, back to notes- right! I have a note on this particular thing somewhere else lemme dig it up....'There's a reason I've been spending part of my day, every day for the past week, listening to meeting recordings.
.... there are 4 recordings and I've only fully listened to 1. How do people do podcasts.

RE: Diversity Representation in MU*ing
I can't say the idea of 'this character should talk different because of the color of their skin' has ever occurred to me and that seems so weird.
Talk different because of where they grew up, maybe (as in New York or Georgia or California or England or-) but not 'Well this character from Brooklyn is white but this one is black so they should talk totally different'
that is just.... jesus fuck people do that? Why

I was watching a comedy special from marc Maron and he described something i know intimately and now have a name for.
Aggravated Boredom. Nothing is stimulating my brain and I am mad about it. It's a terrible helples almost tantrum-y feeling where you just simmer while you are prevented mind stimulation for whatever reason.
I've spoken with @faraday about this exact feeling before.

@Ominous While I understand the horse racing bit... it's very odd here. Being interested in horse races for Australians, at least, is a rather high class interest.
It used to be here. Now it only is during the Kentucky Derby when people want to host a themed party.
Like sure, we've got those grumpy old men with a worn newspaper betting the house on the ponies, but you only ever hear of horse races during Race Day where people wear exceptionally small hats...
Because it's America, the hats are very big during the Kentucky Derby. Which is really, IMO, the only reason anyone cares anymore. Excuse to wear ridiculous hats.

@Auspice Man, I live in the pacific northwest and every single time I have tried out chicken with waffles it has had a motherfucking bone in it. This knowledge you are sharing that it is supposed to be a boneless chicken tender makes the whole thing make so much more sense.
That was where I tried it. I JUST MISSED MY SOUTHERN FOOD. Yeah, the PNW is fucking it up.
It's not supposed to have a bone in it!
Imagine those long chicken tenders (some places call 'em chicken fingers) instead. That's what you should have with chicken and waffles.
There's a taco place here in TX called Torchy's and every month they have a taco of the month and one month they did a chicken and waffles taco.... It was a flour tortilla topped with a waffle topped with bacon topped with a fried egg topped with a chicken tender and then syrup over top and I honestly dream of that thing sometimes.
I'd have to Nope! out of trying that. If I want sweet chicken, I'll order some General Tso's.
We're talking two TOTALLY DIFFERENT KINDS OF SWEET.

I used to dislike pancakes but I've always loved waffles. This past year however I keep finding myself making pancakes as a snack. Go fig.
Why not? They're cheap ($7.40 for a 10lb bag of mix at Wally World), easy to make, taste great and are more filling than Ramen. Pancakes are one of my go-go to meals on those nights when I crawl home from work without the energy to even take off my shoes, let alone cook.
The fact that I'm cooking them and not my mother helps. A lot of the foods I hated came from a) not knowing food sensitivities as a kid (and parents who didn't believe in allergies unless they were the nearly kills you kind) and b) my mother being an absolutely terrible cook.
She never cooked the pancakes properly so they were always a little doughy and they'd make me sick. So. I disliked pancakes for decades.
