So you are in fact asserting that you cannot ever, EVER, say I am sorry you took it that way without being insincere?
Correct? No other possible meaning or circumstance?
There will be people who will never accept an apology, period.
There are people who think if you give any sort of explanation, at all, you are insincere.I have learned there is no point arguing with those people. However, I don't think any of them are in this thread.
If he had said: 'I didn't mean that, but I'm sorry it came across that way. Next time I'll try to be more clear in what I mean.' that may be accepted. If he hadn't, by nature of his other posts (and behavior on the game itself) pushed an image of gives-no-fucks-about-other-people, what he said may have been accepted.
It's context in this case, but one of the sad truths of the real world is that there will be people who will never accept any apology you make. Those people are generally utter assholes themselves. But again, none are in this thread. His apology came across as insincere not because of the wording used, but because of his overall behavior around it.

RE: Auspice Needs To Move!
I enjoy moving. It's the loading/unloading of the truck I hate. Largely due to the fibro. I end up so insanely exhausted and hurty after.
Anyway! I am in Boise at the first stop. Cat was unhappy the whole day, but she's relaxing nicely.

RE: Good TV
I finally began watching The Expanse.
And just outright binging it.
Oh god I love this and everything about it and want all of it forever and ever.
This is the best sci-fi I have seen in a very long time. It's so good. -
RE: BSG: Unification
Regarding setting up combat-
When I run combat in FS3 (this goes back to all FS3 games I've been on), I will set it up in advance of the scene. Often hours before. And if I have moar mobs coming in later, I'll keep the commands in a notepad file to copy and paste in a Notepad file. -
RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I took a new position within my company.
It doesn't pay any better. In fact, once I factor in commuting, I'll make less.
But it'll take me off a project that has been stressing me out and had me fighting outright quitting day after day (sometimes hour after hour).I thought I did the right thing, because it'll have me working out of their local office. I'll meet people! I'll be doing something new!
But I haven't worked out of the house in 7 years.
I start on Tuesday and I'm so anxious about it that I'm sick. -

For many people, studies are finding that multitasking is actually a bad thing. And how many of us already gripe on the regular about our RP partners taking 20, 30 minutes to pose?
I think that expecting people to stay focused on the game is unrealistic given that the nature of the medium means you have to wait for other people to pose. Even if there are only two people, it's going to take 10 minutes on average for someone to come up with a halfway decent pose. Add another person in? No. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to stand there twiddling my thumbs staring at a screen for 15-20 minutes. Multitasking is inevitable due to the genre.
But I agree with your basic principle, which is that spreading the game across two mediums is ugly. The difference is that I think the web is the medium we should be moving towards. There is nothing you can do in-game that can't be done on the web. There are many, many, many things you can't do in-game that you can do on the web. If we have to stick to only one platform, web is a no-brainer IMHO.
Except if you put the game in a browser tab? It becomes one of ten, twenty.
How am I going to remember it's there?Fast-forward three hours, 'Hurr. Sorry guys, I lost track of the tab because I was doing other stuff. Sorry.'
But when it's a whole other entity, I can remember.
I speak from experience. I've tried some of those other 'RP' experiences (Storium? Web chat 'deals,' etc) in browsers. I forget they exist very, very quickly. I can't do web based chat at all. I reload this only when I'm bored and come back to it later on. I couldn't keep up with a scene with any expected consistency.

RE: RL Anger
I've worked places that banned the microwaving of fish. I support this decision.

RE: RL things I love
The cover and release date for the book I'll be published in was posted.
Pre-orders on the 15th! And maybe I'm biased, but that is a damn fine cover.

RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game
My concept is to offer up specialty characters (either via roster, randomized stats, or both) that are played with the knowledge that the bit will die at an ST's discretion.
You get a sort of 'bonus' alt, are encouraged to play them freely with everyone else, but someday they will die.
To me, this means you can skip out on raising lethality for other PCs too high (thus removing worry for the people who can't stand the idea of losing a bit) and you have a measure of control (since it's at ST discretion when it happens) over the people who will kill off a new one on a regular basis just for dramz.
The way I see it (obvs policies would need to be fleshed out) is that you'd play for 3+ months before any potential death. Enough time to play with people outside of +events/plot and foster those relationships.

RE: Make MSB great again!
I think two threads for games (ad / discussion) could be good. Maybe not in the Hog Pit tho. Mildly Constructive, but with a potential to move to the Pit if it gets too bad?
I only say because not everyone subscribes to the Pit. And requiring it to view discussion threads on games seems wrong.

RE: RL things I love
A guy I used to work for, his daughter is a sword fighter. German long swords.
She got angry at a boy for being a "sexist asshole."
She challenged him to a duel.
I love that kid.

RE: X-Men Game
I would not protest, at all, if there was no Deadpool. I don't think anyone can play the character in a way that won't make me want to claw out my eyes.
(But I am also so fucking burned out on Deadpool.)

RE: Meanest (But Funniest) Thing You've Done in a Game
I have another one, as a player.
D&D campaign. The DM wanted it to be over-the-top power levels, gear, etc. Freedom to pick whatever races we wanted, etc. I went air genasi. Then we each got one wish. I assume because he wanted to try out his skill at fucking us over vs. ours at terming our wishes properly.
I wished to be able to fly. And the only loophole he found in my writeup was not mentioning the ability to land again. So my character was permanently hovering at least 6" off the ground.
Both of these things turned out to be his downfall. See, he wanted to TPK us. That was the ultimate goal. Let the party become insanely powerful... then try to TPK.
His first failed attempt was because of an airborne poison. Air genasi don't have to breathe. So everyone else is down, out, and me... "Uh. I don't breathe. It doesn't affect me."
Cue DM's sad puppy look as my character goes about and revives everyone.
The next instance was a ground-based attack. "Everyone takes..."
Me: "Uhm. I don't."
DM: "What, why?!"
Me: "Remember? She never touches the ground."Not just sad puppy look that time, but the creeping realization that he did this to himself with the wish loophole.
So once again, everyone else is down and my character goes around to revive them.
That party eventually got to where they'd make sure I got the best gear. My character got turned into a vampire? They made it their mission to find her gear that'd let her walk in sunlight. She wasn't even the most martially strong or anything, but she always survived, so they made doubly sure of it.
