I have to assemble a copy deck* for class. It was due by Sunday night. I can't even really begin on it until I get feedback on my 'planning' document from last week.

I haven't received this feedback yet. Our professor extended our deadline until Monday. Which is probably awesome for the people who have gotten their feedback, but sucks ass for anyone like me who hasn't.

I'm in two classes this month. One has an awesome professor. This prof is... I mean, he's not bad, but this current issue has me pretty upset. And I don't want to ask for a further deadline. I don't want to be on this big a crunch at all, because next week I have to put everything in said document to action as it were for my final project.

*A copy deck is basically the document that has everything in it needed for a copywriting project. I'm looking at about 20+ pages for mine. And... it's Friday night and I haven't started. I can't start. ๐Ÿ˜

Say something. Really. If he has not given you the necessary feedback to complete your project in a reasonable time, you should at least tell him that you don't think the delay will allow reasonable time for completion.

If he refuses to move the deadline, that is when you do things like appeal to the dean.

I have had irresponsible professors like this in the past. I learned quickly that you have to approach these kinds of things directly. Preferably through channels that leave a record.

I contacted him today. He's given me an extra day. Since I have Mon/Tues off, I should be able to get it done in that timeframe.

Back to stressing out over the 'flow chart' I have to make for another class by tomorrow night. I just cannot grok flow charts. I mean, I can follow them, but I can't make them. Fuckers make no sense to me in construction. I dunno why, I just can't grasp them.

Just looking to see if anyone knows the player of Booster Gold last summer/fall at UH? That person was hysterical and I'd love to try to get the Superbuddies band back together on another comics game.

I so badly wanna see Blue Beetle and Booster Gold on G&M. SO BADLY.

A while back, I switched to infinite scrolling on a lark to see what it would be like. Since I did that (and quickly switched back, it was awful hard to keep track of anything) the game has consistently been dumping me at the wrong spot of ongoing threads I return to.

I don't mean the start, I don't mean the end, I mean somewhere in 2017 (on average).

      ...Halp.

I wonder if it's related to the fact that since a recent update, if I click on a notification (soandso liked your...), it just dumps me on a random post in that thread... not the one actually liked.

I just chalk a lot of it up to 'nodebb is garbage.'

Hovering behind me is my big 'do not do' thing. It legit freaks me out and ramps my anxiety up tenfold if there's someone just... lurking around behind me looking over my shoulder. I had to tell my boss to stop it because it makes me nervous. Not because its him, but just.. A person standing behind me.

I can't stand sitting where people even have the opportunity to walk/stand behind me. I'll end up in the state of shaking with anxiety from it. ๐Ÿ˜

    • RE: MU Things I Love

Shout out to @Royal here. I love when people notice flavor shit.

Fallen World. My character opted to leave a scene right around the time a werewolf brutally murdered someone:

Meanwhile, Intrigue is already on her way to the warehouse. She goes to turn on the radio to find there's still one of the kid's CDs in the player. Some sing-a-long begins blaring. "...well there goes the mood." It's hard being a private investigator and a stepmom some days.

An eyebrow lifts ever so slowly as Cash shows Demetrius her magic trick. The departure of Intrigue is noted with a little wave of a .38 Special. "That is absolutely fucked up." Says the vile masque of the former Guardian. Then claws. Then blood. Then more and he tilts his head aside ever so slightly. "Hey, you think his watch is worth anything?" A glance down as blood runs down the mans arm, over the watch... Grail sighs heavily. Defeated. "Of course not."

Lemme just shed a tear. Thank you, man. I appreciate the acknowledgement of the blaring children's music as she left the parking lot. ๐Ÿ˜„

@auspice Yeaaaaaah.. my office is set up like a galley kitchen. Two long 'counters' (my computer is at one of these) with about 8 feet of open floor space between them. There is literally nowhere I can go and NOT have my back to the room. It can get nerve-wracking.

      Because I like visuals:
      alt text

That's our layout. No one sits at the desk under the window. It has a great view of Austin! But no one wants their back to EVERYONE. It's such a stupid desk. My manager almost tried to demand I sit there so 'the lead has a specific spot in the room' and I think the look of sheer horror I gave him was enough to shut down that plan.

    • RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check

I will note, however, the time I got treated the worst by a Staffer was the time I did say 'woah, too far' on a consent original-theme superhero game. >.> Like cussed-out 'omg how dare you not appreciate me' level.

But I used to be all about consent. Like once upon a time, I was like, a good 75% consent / 25% dice/stats person. Gimme story, gimme people who would work out story and telling it together.

...and then the assholes and their inability to ever see their character fail even once. Then superhero games and shit like 'Well, I don't care about your evidence from the comics. In my opinion, <Soandso> is and always will be the most powerful type of <character>, so you have to lose.'

And yeah, you get this on statted games, too, but at least there you have the system backing up your player STs. On non-statted games, player STs crumble even faster. I know even starry-eyed me was unwilling to ever venture outside of her circle of friends.

If anyone knows an active comic game where I can app Zatanna, let me know? I miss playing her, but I got tired of feeling like I was constantly pulling teeth to get people to RP on G&M (which is why I faded away).

I have never enjoyed a GURPS game I have played. I've had diehard fans of the system insist it's 'just bad GMs' or whatever, but I still blame the system. I think it's far too rules-heavy and clunky than any system has any need to ever, ever be.

And this from someone who finds the HERO system to be downright amusing and fun to build characters in sometimes.

Also @FirePuff why would you get a chicken sandwich at a place with burger in it's name? I know a lot of people do it but it always strikes me as odd. I mean if I want chicken it is not like chicken places are hard to find.

I donโ€™t really do regular burgers anymore, to be honest. I tend to get chicken or turkey burgers or patties at places like P. Terryโ€™s and Hopdoddy. I donโ€™t have an aversion to beef, I just prefer poultry.

...I also got a chicken sandwich? Sometimes burgers just don't agree with my stomach. Esp. fast food ones.

Clearly @FirePuff and I just aren't meant for fast food. ๐Ÿ˜›

@Auspice said in Adapting FATE for MU*s:

The last time I sat down and tried to puzzle out a good way to do it, I got a headache.

Yeah, I mean... the mechanics are easy enough to adapt. But what makes Fate cool are the freeform epic aspects/stunts and the collaborative chargen / resolutions. Those are exactly the things that make the idea of using Fate on a game with dozens of strangers sound like a nightmare. You could strip them out or tone them down, but then you're getting away from what made Fate neat in the first place.

I've run into a lot of people with similar experiences. It's one of those systems that works great in tabletop, so we want to see it in MU*, but it's just... not going to scale well, I don't think.

Your best bet is probably going to be using something extant, to be honest.

You are, of course, more than welcome to join StargateMUSH (http://stargate.aresmush.com). I know that one is a huge IP, but we're set in an AU-type timeline after the first movie. If you've seen the movie (it's on Hulu right now!), you have the general concept of what you need.

And our players, thus far, have been stellar about helping people with the other aspects of the game. I sometimes come back from AFK and people have already answered a Guest's questions.

      @Three-Eyed-Crow said in FS3:

      @Tempest
Yeah, this is legit, and I presume it's due to a lack of other plug-and-play alternatives. It's like how that Kushiel's Debut game was running on a modified WoD system, which I always assumed was in part because it's fairly easy to get the pieces to slap together a WoD chargen.

Pretty much this. FS3 is there and it can be made to work. It's not a perfect solution, but there aren't other solutions unless you're a coder or you have a dedicated coder you can keep around, y'know?

I plan to use FS3 for my game (modern setting). It's not a perfect fit. You know what would be? FATE.

You know what we've discussed would be an immense headache and can't really be translated to MU*?

      ... FATE.

So FS3 is about what I have to work with.

HOWEVER ... I plan to make the system very, very secondary to the RP. I'm actually way way more interested in everything else AresMUSH can do.

    • RE: L&L Options?

      @Tempest said in L&L Options?:

Social and political stuff does not work like that. If you win a roll, but can't write to save your goddamn life, people are going to lose interest in playing with you, and in playing with their character, since they now have to go along with your awful shit because the dice said so.

It's also a scale of 'work' involved, too.

If I'm RPing a lawyer, a lot of it is off-camera (unless I'm playing on Court Room: the MU and no one wants to play there). The number of times I have to roll for that on-camera is slim. I can get away with not being a lawyer IRL.

I remember on Firan, if you were a Guard, you were expected to actually go out and be a Guard. To investigate stuff. To arrest people. You had to actually do the job on-camera. You couldn't just say you did. You couldn't just roll some dice and rely on your sheet. You had to actually do the thing and play it out.

Political stuff, IMO, should be the same way. You want to be a political character? Do the thing. Don't just handwave it away or roll some dice or submit a +job and have staff fiat dictate that you won. You chose the role. You do the work because it is an on-camera position (at least in the context we're discussing here) that needs to be played out.

they say 'This is a shotgun, which deals X. If you add Y mod, it modifies the damage thusly; or you could BUY a shotgun with Y mod already installed. End result is the exact same thing'

That sounds like it could get annoyingly complicated for Staff on a game very quickly. In a TT, sure, fine, but on a MU*? Jesus I'd hate to be equipment staff. I'd want to murder every single min-maxer.
