I tried to start playing STELLARIS last night. I couldn't even get a partway through the tutorial before my brain was fried. My brain just isn't wired for those types of games, even though I wish it was.
That's my issue with Stellaris.
I love it. I wanna play it so bad.
But homg it's so overwhelming my ADHD brain just caaaaaaaaan't.
It makes me so sad. -
RE: StargateMUSH
Hey! We're nearing the end of 'Season 1' and there's been a lot of big things in the past week or so.
We could absolutely use some NERDS (aka Science characters), particularly: biologists, engineers, and physicists. If this is something that interests you, feel free to stop in and check the place out. http://stargate.aresmush.com.
There is still always room for air force and marine PCs as well as other civilian contractor types. I'm still occasionally running my 'asynchronous portal plots and we have players in the UK and Australia which means there's almost always someone around looking for RP.
To get an idea of what's been going on, I suggest looking at the 'Weekly Updates' board, where @Paradox and I post on a weekly basis (this week's is a day behind since I was sick this past week and he had RL things over the weekend) to keep people in the loop about what's going on IC and OOC.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
tbh, the best experiences I've had with doctors can be summed up with two (and much as it might surprise people: both were white dudes):
The first told me, straight up: 'You know your body better than anyone, so if you say there's an issue, I believe you.'
Holy shit, I miss that guy. If you live in the Cincinnati, OH area, I will do everything I can to dig through my shitty memory to remember his name. The other was a doc in SC who had witnessed firsthand how much fibromyalgia can fuck with a person's perception of pain and as a result, he treated anyone with it more carefully and was willing to hear us out when we said we thought something was wrong instead of just brushing it off as 'in our head.'

RE: RL things I love
On Tuesday I get to see Leigh Bardugo at an event she's doing here in Austin for her new book. Yeeeeee

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
So I'm personally really dicey on calling on the DSM-5 because it was released right before the findings on fibromyalgia were confirmed about it being a physical health condition and thus per the DSM-5 it's still considered a 'oh it's all in your head and because of your depression'
Which means I may run a huge risk of, if I call on DSM-5, having other issues I suffer brushed off.
But I do appreciate that. It's more a matter of... Like @Macha said, I guess being willing to get it all written down (though I once had a doctor just refuse to even keep talking to me when they saw I had a list of symptoms I'd been tracking, so it's hard for me to even do that now).
Ugh, bad doctors can fuck us up for life I swear.

@Auspice I am also bad at self advocating, I always feel like a kid in the principals office when i go to the doctor.
RIGHT?!

@Auspice As someone who has both allergies and ADHD and a few bonus things going on, would you like some advice on how to manage the doctor? I wish I didn't have experience, but...
I have experience.
I honestly just wish I had someone who could go with me to advocate. I've got some things I've put off for years (looking at my hand here....) because what gets in the way is my anxiety. I'm on anxiety meds and they do help but I've found in the past that if I go into the doctor with a list of issues, once I get past one or two they tune me out and stop giving a fuck.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
I see a doctor on the 25th. I plan to ask about two things: allergies (ugh mine are so bad and OTC allergy meds are expensive) and ADHD meds.
I've never been so unfocused as I am these days. All my coping mechanisms have failed. Honestly, I didn't even realize until a handful of years ago that I had coping mechanisms. They were just.... built up over the course of my life and I guess once I had a working depression medication, the ADHD came to the forefront or.... maybe it has just gotten worse?
But I finally have a job I love and I know I have a chance to turn it from a contract into an employment offer and I'm terrified I won't make that happen because of my fucking ADHD. I go through some days where I get maybe a single hour of productivity out of myself and I hate it. I try all the tips and tricks and shit and none of it works. Hell, Friday was one of the most productive days I've had in weeks and I barely remember most of it because I was so doped up on cold medications. I half expect to go in tomorrow and find that the work I did do was garbage.
I just know I can't leave this visit on the 25th with yet another 'just sleep more' (I sleep fine) or 'just give your depression meds more time' (it's been over 3 years).

Anyway, I'm not joining this year because I'm under massive deadlines at work where they, well, y'know, pay me to write. So it's hard to add NaNo on top of that I'm afraid.
Yeah, what with the whole "having to write briefs, motions, and memoranda while at work" thing, I'm very doubtful of my ability to come home and write ~1700 words per day.
It is doable and I have done it. But it wasn't easy (or really fun and I fell off the proverbial wagon halfway through).
And there are people who call themselves 'rebels' who count EVERYTHING they write even if it isn't strictly their novels. >.>

I am in cheerleader mode for NaNoWriMo.
I suggest signing up for https://chatnano.net/ if your region is signed up for it (if they aren't, make them!). Mostly because a former MU*er and one of my best friends runs it and codes Timmy the ChatBot (https://twitter.com/BotTimmy). But also because the IRC community on chatnano is really awesome. Timmy hosts word wars and will tell you when one is running any time, any where. So even if YOUR region isn't running one, you can hop into a channel where one is.
(And since you can join any region in addition to your home region, feel free to join Utah - Elsewhere. That's the one run by my friend, Utoxin. He'll be happy to have you.)
Anyway, I'm not joining this year because I'm under massive deadlines at work where they, well, y'know, pay me to write. So it's hard to add NaNo on top of that I'm afraid.

@Auspice OMG, that is adorable...lol.
For another 'Auspice was young and naive once!' story:
My very first trip exploring out and about on Dragonsfire, I found an item! In a room! I picked it up.Many many months later, I realized I still had it in my inventory. On Pubchan, I had an 'Oh no! I have <thing>! Who does it belong to?! I AM SO SORRY!'
(I think it was even named as 'suchandsuch gift' so it CLEARLY WAS IMPORTANT at least in my mind)
Someone chimed in, HIGHLY amused, that it had been written entirely as a prank gift and they had been wondering where it'd gone off to. -

Whenever anyone mentions Harpers Tale, I'm reminded that I've likely been playing with some of you FOREVER, but that game is so far back in the reaches of my mind I remember nothing other than a) I was there and b) I was kinda twinky in that new-to-mushing way.
If it makes you feel any better, the v. first time I logged in to Harper's Tale (in '98), I saw people in The Flying Mug, thought 'oh god that is not proper at all this game is ridiculous' and logged off to go back to Dragonsfire until someone (so politely, oh god, they were probably laughing so hard) told my very young, naive self that it was the name of a tavern and I had an 'oh, oh god' moment and went back to properly create a character.

Yes.
But no.More like SOW-ihn.
It depends on region, and accent. I've heard both of those and 'sah-wehn' all considered accurate.
ETA: That is to say Celtic accent.
Okay.
True. -

Hey Texas when I said I wanted cooler weather I didn't mean go from upper 90s to lower 50s in the space of 24 hours.
I hate this so so so much. I'm too old for that shit now.
I'm trying to get over a bad sinus infection. This is not the time for this.
The upside, I guess is that it's also rainy today and that'll get the allergens out of the air.
