    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

@derp this has been known for years, the trailer is out already. Still kinda meh on it. Nothing will ever be as good as the short film with Nathan Fillion and Stephen Lang as Drake and Sully.

Edited to add: Link to the Fillion, Lang, Ernie Reyes fan film: https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74

      What I hear:

Cats are complicated creatures with a mirand of personalities.

      Take our pot babies:

Then there is my cat, former stray, vet thought she was maybe 2 when she decided she was "my cat". Doesn't seem to understand she's a cat. Doesn't do most bad cat stuff outside of occasionally scratching at low furniture to try and pull off shed claw sheathes. For real. Doesn't climb on things. Doesn't try to get outside even if the door is wide open. Doesn't bear trap attack when belly is rubbed. Likes the car. Likes the vet. Loves her giant dog sisters. Doesn't knock things off other things. Doesn't sing the song of her people at 3 am. Doesn't try to suffocate me in my sleep. Loves any old dry food I feed her and shares the water bowl with the dogs. Has hacked up 2 hairballs in 4 years. Comes when she's called. Is shy with strangers around for...maybe an hour? Then comes out for pettings.

My vet described her as a "gateway cat".

@arkandel To be fair, cats have notoriously bad close-up vision. They're very far-sighted, so if its close to them and not moving, they are often dumbfounded until and unless they use their sniffer to locate.

The good news is I don't need the oven, frankly. Between a pressure cooker and an air fryer most common cooking tasks can be delegated.

I have a toaster oven that does convection and broils and bakes and toasts and very few things ever require me to use the oven in a range anymore thanks to that.

@arkandel Yep, and he's all the better for this because it affects his money directly, paying more to do gunfire in post-production instead of using blanks on a set.

@Too-Old-For-This has pointed out that apparently it's freaking common, so nevermind.

43 deaths across 10 years and thousands of movie and TV productions is really not all that common, thankfully.

But remember also that this statistic is strictly DEATHS. It doesn't even begin to go into injuries, which I am sure are much more plentiful, even outside of stunt cast.

I... am not sure what to say. That article in particular claims James Gunn responded to a tweet, but clicking on it says "page does not exist". That website is owned by a Gen Z media influencer company. So I am again...I want to believe women without question, but I'd like to see the actual accounts/accusations on their actual social media rather than things "resposted" on sites I can't determine the credibility of.

Let me put it to you this way.

      3STM played Warped Tour.

I have to check, but as far as I know they only played the Warped Tour once, in 2006. I am working though and can't check deeper until later today.

Basically, women have been accusing Jared Leto of this shit for 20-ish years now and despite the fact that claims keep popping up from various sources again and again and again, they largely get ignored as "rumors" like they did with Cosby and probably will continue to be ignored until one of these sources goes on record with a court of law somewhere.

If there is that much chatter about it though, it is likely true and that makes me so fucking sad. I can't like things anymore. They will always disappoint me.

I shall now go put Stanley Tucci and Dolly Parton inside bubble wrap for protection because I swear to God if they get outted as horrible people somehow, I am gonna just give up on the universe.

I no longer give a shit because of all of the rape allegations.

Wait what? I haven't heard any of these outside of...Reddit and things like that which, well, Reddit...Are there actually like news reports from actual news sites or legal things out there accusing him of that? Everyone I know who has met him (my sister included) had only kind things to say so this really comes as a bit of a shock to me?

Currently reading The Queen's Gambit as it is free for kindle for Amazon Prime members. It is remarkable how well the miniseries stuck to the book. Still a few chapters left but can recommend it.

So to sum up, @GreenFlashlight arbitrarily picked the wrong name to represent her otherwise valid and independently observable peeve...

I was just kind of confused. I mean if they said Ethel or Eustice or Jehosephat, it would have landed the way they intended. I was just surprised they would think Bianca is an "old-fashioned" name.

@carma In Ares, I really wish there was more cultural acceptance of, "Joey filled in Susan on the events of <link to log>last night," instead of having to do direct dialogue.

The expectation of direct dialogue has been a thing since I started playing in the 1990s - it really has nothing to do with Ares.

That said - yeah, MU conversations are pretty absurd. That's partly why I can't do big scenes any more (even more than 3 people). Everyone is putting so much into their individual poses that by the time it comes round to me there are like 27 conversation threads to keep up with and my brain cries uncle.

No, I understand that. I'm not blaming Ares. I'm just saying that in an environment where most games have every meaningful scene logged and every log public, it should be more of a thing to just be able to condense a recap to a link to the relevant logs.

I tend to do that via mail on Ares, by making it an IC message sent, paper or phone or email. People seem to be cool with that as a recap rather than me having to spell it all out in poses.

      @faraday said in Games:

I do get a bit put off when folks (not you specifically) blame the system for what individual games and players choose to do with it.

This, this, this. I am on an Ares game that works perfectly for me, because Asyncs abound and I'm in a situation where that is basically the ONLY way I can RP due to living/work circumstances beyond my control.

I am also on one where Asyncs are almost non-existent and I am likely not going to be able to participate there in most anything unless I initiate an async myself.

The games are both Ares, but their CULTURES are entirely opposite. That is in no way due to the codebase, but to the staff and players and how they prefer to play.

No matter what you think of Zombies, The Last of Us is some of the best storytelling this century and I can watch it over and over again even knowing that it's gonna go right for the feels.

I take great pleasure in watching videos of people on youtube playing it for the first time and breaking down in the first 17 minutes. 17 minutes and grown ass men are CRYING. And I'm there going YES, feel my pain as I did the same damn thing! That is storytelling!
