    • RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)

      New book announced for V5 (and four others were announced by Modiphius as well).

      From Modiphius:

      • The Fall of London V5 Chronicle (Summer 2019) – London is burning. As the Second Inquisition put the city's Kindred to the torch, your characters wake from torpor. The sensible thing would be to flee now, but before you can leave the capital, you have one last job to do... This campaign is perfect to bring your Vampire players up to speed on the plot developments in Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition or as as a gateway for new players.
      • V5 Players Guide (Summer 2019) – A guide to playing different styles of Vampire: The Masquerade to help you play the way YOU want to play, from gritty street level drama to romantic blood opera, complete with advice, new rules, and guidance on using the 5th Edition system to play previous editions of Vampire..
      • V5 Starter Set - (Christmas 2019) - An introductory starter set containing rules to play a self-contained campaign, with premade characters, handouts, maps, tokens and dice.
      • The Second Inquisition (Summer 2020) – Discover the plans, strategies, resources, and technologies of the highly secret organisations charged with investigating and eliminating the vampire threat, including Firstlight and the Society of St. Leopold.. This supplement for V5 will give Storytellers everything they need to know about these feared and fearless organisations to provide all manner of covert opposition for your Chronicle, along with advice for Storytellers who want to run chronicles featuring player characters as a well-equipped covert team of Second Inquisition operatives.

      From OPP:

      • Cult of the Blood Gods: Seems to be focusing on various Kindred worships, and will feature the Hecata, Bahari and Church of Caine as well as others. Just announced, so no real info yet.

    • RE: Comic book diversity

      I'd add on here that it's not diversity, but presentation and expectation, in addition to the comment about stagnation above. Marvel has the problem of being 'in the view' of 'normies' via the Marvel movies, and . They recently saw Tony Stark as Iron Man in Civil War and will again in Spiderman: Homecoming (clever naming on that). Random Bob #7 on the street won't want to go back a few months of issues to see how Riri Williams became Ironman (or Ironheart, whatever).

      Comics are also getting harder and harder to follow nowadays, I feel like. Comic A references LImited Book H, comic crossover B requires you to know (and care) about all of these other characters (like X-Men vs. Inhumans, I could give two shits about the Inhumans personally, but for me to know X-Men I have to read it).

      Apparently some devotions were supposed to be in SotC. They were linked.

      rise from your grave

      So as of yesterday we got more information from Modiphius about those books.

      Also some other info about organized play and playtesting from Modiphius, as well.

      All in all, I'm a little surprised that Modiphius is doing all 13 clans in the book, which is different from what was the stated 'development philosophy' by one of the V5 developers, but at least it'll help with drawing in people who were skipping it because their favorite <x> wasn't in the book.

      Trailer for the X-Men TV show Gifted. They actually name-drop the X-Men and Brotherhood! No news if it's tied to the movie franchises, but they directly have cast Polaris, Thunderbird and Blink in the series. Lots of mutants with telekinesis/magnetism/non-flashy powers in the preview.

      We get that it's your point. What's causing friction is you KEEP harping on it. Every reply. We understand. Shut up about it. It's not for you, it's not for you. Continuing to go 'every game FAAAAAAAILED because FCs' every time someone replies to something in the thread, is making you look like a hostile troll. Bow out and graciously stop posting, because that's the ONLY way that you'll stop being purposefully misread in order to bait you into continuing to post.

      @Ghost
      Well, the book Cults of the Blood Gods will do a lot more to answer that question about the Giovanni, since the whole Hecata writeup (including backstory, why the necromantic clans joined up in parts, and independent takes on the necromantic clans) will be in there. The 'overview' most of us are expecting is a few pages worth, plus the 'core' basic Discipline. But it'll be nice for those to be playable come December, even if we won't have all the context for what they're doing now.

      SI will be choice though, apparently they've stated there will be rules for playable SI agents/mortals in that book as well as expanded equipment.

      Honestly? Coming from a world of 'consent' games with combat that could lead up to just shy of death? If you consent to combat, you consent to the things that come from it, short of death. You get curbstomped and left unconscious in the street if you lose combat, but without your express permission you can't die. Most of these have been consent MU*s with a coded combat that determines who hits and such, like a dice system but automated.

      But conversely, consent should also really follow some methods of logic; you can't go try to smoosh the Prince then scream consent when the Prince's bodyguards want to stop you and take you out during that.

      @Rinel
      You can just about recreate any Path or even chunks of multiple paths into your Humanity based on how V5 does it. You have Tenets (the global morality) which is decided by the ST and the group (so you could have a Humanist set of Tenets wit hthings like Don't kill except in self defense), then individual PCs have Convictions, which are personal morals that they use to keep the Beast away. IT's really a well-done and very malleable system.

      ETA: Apparently it looks like we'll be getting expanded Discipline powers in the Player's Guide?

      Dawkins' statement about what he did for Oblivion kinda indicates that. I'm fishing for answers.

      I love my fiance. I wouldn't have been with him for 16 years if I didn't. But god damn if I don't hate a lot of his friends, which makes me happy we have separate circles of friends. One friend in particular, who has to make a nasty or inappropriate joke at/about everything, I fucking hate hanging out with him

      LARPers are, yet again, getting on my nerves. I love my group, but this is the first time EVER, outside of the clusterfuck that is the Mind's Eye Soceity, that I've been bombarded with so many 'if, then' rules questions that are clearly laid out in the book. Read the rules for Dominate. Read the rules for Auspex. Read the rules for Obtenebration. It clearly explains what I just explained to you. No you can't use Auspex to get around Fighting Blind; it doesn't say in Auspex you can, therefor you can't. You can't be 'blind and deaf' through tearing out your eyes and ripping off your ears and expect to function normally.

      Info on projects from Matthew Dawkins (thanks to him for the AMA on the WoD5 Discord).

      From the Player's Guide...

      • The PG will have Amalgams and alternate powers for Disciplines. Apparently 'Warlocks of all stripes will have some new toys to play with' but without context (hopefully more Rituals and BS powers).
      • The Hecata section will talk about the Giovanni as they are linked to the Hecata; the Hecata section will not talk about the non-Hecata Giovanni. The non-Hecata Giovanni will be more covered in Cults of the Blood Gods.
      • Ravnos and Tzimisce will be in the PG.

      On the Chicago Folios...

      • They will contain some mechanics, new Loresheets and Blood Sorcery Rituals.

      @Ghost
      All of that is really why I love my group. They ain't that. Hence why this one player going a little beyond normal with the questions is on my nerve.

      We are all friends first, a majority of us met through the local gaming scene, but we're friends first and LARP comes second. Like, we get together to just hang out and watch movies, go out to shows, go Pokemoning, barbeque, dancing. Hell, our group even has had multiple PKs without insanity after the fact other than 'Holy shit, how did you Eddard Stark me, man?' aftertalk.

      All of that stuff is a lot of my problem with a vast majority of the people I know from the Mind's Eye Society. There's a LOT of social awkwardness and problem in that club, and the club would rather care about keeping paying bodies than bouncing shitstains.

      @ThatOneDude
      LOL. No, not really. At least not my group.

      I don't know enough about Flash Gordon to help (and I'm shoulders-deep in finishing up my own project), but I wish you luck. There needs to be more different and honestly unique stuff here. And if this allows for general Pew Pew Rayguns and Space Mad Science guys, as long as they fit the Flash Gordon universe, then you should be square. 😄

      Ravnos were reduced to a couple hundred, and it's been 14 years since. So we'll see what they do.

      Most of us in the community are expecting Chimerstry as a whole Discipline to be gone, replaced by a couple of Amalgams. It's all they need, anyway. One for general illusions, one for fighty illusions. None of this 'I can make a static illusion at level 1!' that no Ravnos ever sits at anyway.

    • RE: [Original Supernatural/Vampire MUSH] Houses of the Blood MUSH

      @Tempest
      You hit it pretty much dead on, though some of the wording has changed (the intent was for vampires that are X years old to automatically get the Patrician status, as it's assumed that they would have been a steady pillar of the Republic of the Night, and anyone younger can win the status by doing awesome shit before they hit that 250 mark).

      Generally, characters will start as Plebians, unless they specifically app in as a Peregrinus (this is like apping a Caitiff on a WoD game for comparison, a vampire with no House affiliation because they can't prove their lineage). Pariah is not really a good option for 'start as this,' as it's a form of exile/punishment for lawbreaking.

      There are Advantages (limited benefits) that can be taken to start out as a Patrician (one is based on age, there's another that's a little cheaper that gives you Patrician status for doing something epic for the Republic, like single-handledly destroying a powerful Traitor or holding the line in a war against the Therians, gives you both a 'cool RP thing' as well as the status traits), but you can only have a specific number of Advantages, and so you'd be giving up on other potentially cool stuff to start with Patrician status.
