I say if you are going to have super-powers do it in future or even better on a new planet that humanity started to colonize but something about the world started mutating people and giving them powers. If you are going to be OC, then make the world OC as well.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
Yes there are several tribes, of the same genetic stock who are separated and defined by their jobs. River Tribe, Mining Tribe so forth and so on, but it would be like saying white people aren't all white because some of them work in factories and some of them work in fast-food.
- The ritual challenge...
That happens once in his entire life time in which he can only be challenged by other members of the Oligarchy/Royalty? What are sheep farmers suppose to do if they want more out of life? The only people who can create social change of any kind are the ones in power and have no reason to change anything.
- Wakanda avoids conflict...
He has strike teams of warriors with high tech weapons, spies planted across the globe, and flies his stealth jet around hunting down people who piss him off and trying to kill them or capture them to bring back as prisoners with no due process, no extradition and no respect for international law.
Imagine if any other nation in the world did that.- He didn't kill his enemies...
Yeah, that spear in the chest was just a friendly love-tap? When his own General scolded him for not letting the token American die I'm sure she was just mouthing off to the King for fun.
- But he was selfless and put the needs of his people first...
Bullshit. Most of his people live like they are a third world nation in order to protect his secrets.
He spends the entire movie trying to convince the woman he wants to give up her silly dream of stopping human trafficking so he can hit that hot, lonely pussy every night.
The entire movie was literally about him and how great a king he was. He never, for one second, stopped thinking about his control over his nation and his legacy.
When he found out about Killmonger he could have sent people to bring him back and welcomed him as a brother. They could have reached out to help the world together but his first reaction was to banish him from the kingdom and protect his own power.
That is why Killmonger was yelling, "Ask me my name!" and T'chala refused. He was going to keep the truth from the council to protect himself and his control. His actions are selfishness cloaked in nobility. His every action is to secure his power and nothing more.
The ending of the movie was him finally learning to not be a selfish asshole and he still didn't actually open his borders. He started outreach programs and was willing to share his technology but Wakanda, that stays firmly under his control and isolated so he keeps his power.
He knew the world was going to find out about Wakanda, it had been too exposed. It was only a matter of time. Now everything happens his way, on his terms, and he looks like the great big hero coming to save the world with is generosity but he never, ever, gives up control.

RE: How did you discover your last three MU* ?
Mudconnect, and Musoapbox. Though honestly I think I need a better system.
I've applied on a couple of games but they seem mostly dead. I've been really disappointed in Let Freedom Ring.I applied on the 29th. Got a reply on the 30'th. Fixed the issue the same day aaaaand I'm still waiting. On a normal game with lots of apps to process this would be fine but there are like 4 people applying and as far as I can tell I'm the only one in my sphere.
They need faster turn over if they want the place to get off the ground. I really hope it picks up. It's pretty much a blank slate right now so if people join they have the chance to get in on the ground floor.
(Shameless plug: portent.genesismuds.com 8020)I think that's the thing Darkmetal did right. You could just zip out a character and go without needing to wait. No characters were very special to start with but little was lost if you were ganked.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
This is late because I don't usually go see movies but I just caught a copy of the Black Panther and I have to wonder, does no one else find it hilarious that the movie is a white supremacist dream come true, but for black people?
- All Wakandans are of the same people so there is no crime or social problems.
- Isolationist nation with zero tolerance immigration policy.
- Dome (Wall) around the city.
- Invisibility field protects it's secrets.
- King is treated like a celebrity. No one is allowed to challenge.
- Absolute loyalty is expected from everyone.
- Wakanda intervenes militarily where ever it wants in the world.
- Leader is qualified to lead because he was born wealthy in a political dynasty of pure blood and trained to fight to the death for the right to lead.
- Leader kills his political enemies.
- The population has no media. No TV, no internet, they work and breed and die in the name of keeping Wakanda pure.
- Black Panther is the Randian hero personified.
If you changed Wakanda into Texas and reversed the race of the actors, this movie would be every white-nationalist manifesto ever written rolled into one.

RE: What Is Missing For You?
In a way that is just as much a game for children as the games with no sex in them. It's just a game for adult-children. That's part of the problem. We have a choice between games where everything is about sex or nothing is about sex and no games where people just act... normal.
You have sex when it's appropriate for the relationship. The relationship should be the end goal, not the sex. If all that ever happens is sex, it's just as much a cartoon as Gummy Bears, only on the other end of the spectrum.
(Enjoy that theme song)

RE: What Is Missing For You?
I can't agree enough. I've played hero games so much where I execute a complicated, elaborate plan for the heroes to thwart in a very public way which should change the world at least a little and nothing ever happens.
Also, no one running a game ever goes, "Wait, the Justice League has teleportation technology? Well, America is just going to take that. If you don't want to share technology which will improve the lives of everyone on earth, then get out of America and don't come back."
That's exactly what the goverment should do. The heroes have limitless energy devices, teleportation and super-computers that could be used to cure all diseases but the goverment never takes it.
You think we wouldn't? We kill thousands of people a day because there is oil in the ground we haven't gotten yet. Teleportation technology alone is worth magnitudes more than oil.
Hell, that could be a good theme for a game right there. The Justice League becomes outlaws on earth because the U.N. demands they share their tech and they refuse. Force them into hiding instead of the spotlight.

RE: What Is Missing For You?
I would like to see a games that actually have an adult rating.
I saw first hand when super-hero games started curbing TS and violence to appeal to a younger audience the popularity died. Now when you log in to a Super-hero based game there are 20 people idle for 6 hours and a handful of people in the OOC room chatting but actual RP rarely happens and I think a lot of that is because no one builds relationships. People just go there to have play-dates where they punch NPC's with someone who might as well be a stranger.
Maybe it was just me, but the part I liked most about MUSHing in the old days was having connections. I had friends and through them they had friends and some times people would fuck and have relationships, even virtual dates. It was escapism. Some times people would argue ICly. Some times people would get jealous or cheat on each other.
There were downsides to it of course like Colossus and Quicksilver banging their sisters but for the most part that stuff was behind closed doors.
I really think when you force a politically correct rating on a game it kills the depth of the drama that can happen on it. Not just marvel either. I've seen the same things happen to WoD games. You curb sex and violence and it poisons the game.
As soon as a staff tries to stuff human nature in a box to protect the purity of "Any children who might be playing" a game about werewolves gutting people, the game starts to die.
If you look at the popularity of different styles of MUSHes the more censored the players are, the fewer players stick around. This isn't a passing trend. It's every theme, every game that does it.
In this day and age, if someone has been online long enough to find a MU*, download a telnet client and learn how to use the commands, they probably have seen a penis before.
We shouldn't have to give up having in-depth, emotionally impactful stories in order to protect the potential innocence of some kid who probably watches Futa-tentacle-hentai porn when no one is watching.
Just put it right on the log in screen. "This is an adult game. By signing in you are testifying that you are above 18 or the legal age to see adult content in your nation of origin." then if some one less than 18 logs in it's not our problem.

RE: What Is Missing For You?
That is true, if you are in an area where all the major battles happen but if you set your game in a place which isn't a major city you can pretty much just watch the end of the world on the news.
Wouldn't it be an interesting game if you spent a year building your character like normal then at the start of the second year a giant Wyrm-spawn erupts from the pentagon, the army goes to fight it and gets destroyed until a bunch of werewolves show up and fight it while everyone watches it live on TV?
You don't have to be in the thick of the end of the world for the world to end. It would be much more interesting a story to be away from the battles as they unfold around the world in places you don't live. See how the truth coming out a little at a time shakes up the way people live life, what changes happen because of one monster attack after another.
How would humans react? Could you keep your little piece of the world from unraveling while the "Chosen" fight the larger battles?

RE: What Is Missing For You?
I thought of something today. A lot of the problems with games is that over time a few characters become so God like they just ruin it for everyone else. We can't stop people from min-maxing but there is a part of that formula that the staff can control: Time.
What if you created a game like WoD that was actually having the apocalypse?
Give it a life time of 2 years with a clock that counted down till the end of the world every time a player logged in. When the clock ran out, the Wyrm was freed and everyone died. Then, from deep in space the Technocratic Union rewound time and the clock started over. Everyone began again with new characters or the same characters with new sheets and no memories.
You could have perks like "Soul Mates" where people are fated to find each other and fall in love every time if you want but for the most part every 2 years, the game would start fresh. Maybe even 1 year if you want to create urgency.
Just a wild idea I thought I would throw out there.

RE: Things We Should Have Learned Sooner
I found out a while ago that there are a great many musicals on you tube and a whole subculture of animators who do animatics to the songs in musicals telling the plays.
https://youtu.be/oGs4jb1pCf8?list=PLZ2lamdAZ20A5AW-fEz2-Nk4K_a0fCxSw <-- The Count of Monte Cristo with ponies.
https://youtu.be/wCQst9ruq0w?list=PLkfQanB8u3XfLop2gGzgzWuhDIQcuaPgG <- Matilda songs.Basically name your favorite musical and there are probably 10 versions of it on youtube.
Also, the best anime every made is only on youtube here:

RE: Things We Should Have Learned Sooner
@Paris Don't feel bad, most Americans use words wrong all the time. English is a messed up language.
My land lord used to give her daughter "Exuberating Cream" to "Exuberant" her face and prevent pimples. The word she was looking for was actually "Exfoliating Cream" but no one ever seemed to correct her and I wasn't about to get on her bad side by doing it. Besides, the mistake was kind of poetic. Using the face wash did seem to make her skin very happy and relaxed.

RE: Things We Should Have Learned Sooner
I was spelling "Sweet tea" as "Sweat tea" for YEARS before someone finally pointed out I was confusing the two words.
DOH!!Also, if you look at the gas gauge on your car there is a little icon of the gas pump. That isn't to tell you it's the gas gauge. it's got a little arrow on one side of the icon to tell you where you can put the gas in at without having to get out of the car and look. It's literally GAS GOES THERE >
When you live in the country, feeding birds bread from your car while you wait and listen to the radio is fine. Do it in a large city and it can cause a traffic jam as hundreds of pigeons descend on the sidewalk and shit all over everyone's cars. My bad, L.A.! My bad!
Oh, also, when you are cooking don't pour grease down your sink. Even with dish soap or warm water. Just because it doesn't clog up your sink doesn't mean it's not a problem. Grease congeals in the sewage lines and some poor asshole has to crawl in there and flush it out. Instead put some aluminum foil in a bowl and drip the grease into it then when it cools just fold up the foil ball and throw it in the trash. It would save your city a lot of money if everyone did this.

This game seems to have a great high concept but what do people actually do on a day to day basis?

I hate it when people make fucking videos to explain things that should be written down. I read several times faster than people speak and find them an infuriating waste of time even when I actually want all the information and am not simply being annoyed because I can't skim to the relevant bits.Well, that works for you but if the point of the exercise is to reach a wider audience and attract more players, this would be something to reach new people who don't share your tastes. Not everyone in the world is the same.

RE: Fear and Loathing
No, I'm saying it's a system which needs constant monitoring and is likely just to break down over time. It is inefficient, overly complicated and a waste of staff resources. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying there are simpler, easier, ways to accomplish the same goals.
-
RE: Fear and Loathing
I hope the best for you in your struggle to maintain that perfect balance.

GoB isn't "Game of Thrones like" - it is set in that world. But at a different time than the show/books. And it's a MUSH. That doesn't take itself all that seriously.
Ok, then make some media, a video to throw up on youtube to explain just how the setting is different, what the tone of the game is like and tell players why they should play there.
@Teto said in Game of Bones:
volpe I think Carex is a troll of some kind. It looks like s/he went through some random advertisements and decided to trash each of them to start an argument.
If they don't want to take the advice they don't have to. Just making a suggestion.

@il-volpe said in Game of Bones:
So WTF, did people just stop watching the series this season?
This season? Most people I know quit shortly after little T resolved his father issues. It's just too scattered and the only characters most people liked are doing nothing while all the worst characters get all the screen time.
Like honestly, who the fuck cares about the kid who can take over animals with his eye-rolling powers? No one, cares. Not a single slippery fuck can be given for him or his idiot man servant. The show just became 80% bloat so people stopped watching.
If you want to boost membership make some kind of media presentation that brings people up to speed with that is special about your setting. Just saying, "Game of Thrones like." isn't going to sell it because GoT was kinda lame and poorly executed. Give details to differentiate yourself from the show/book.

RE: Fear and Loathing
The problem with the theory is this: If you have power you are in a position of power. Just because no one gives you an official title for it doesn't mean it isn't true. Giving people power then telling them they can't be declared leaders is stupid because people always follow the power.
Power > Title every time. Just ask Trump. He thought he was going to have real power but all he got was nice title and a crash course on who really runs the country once he got into office.
