    • Golden Road Pivoting to Contagion Chronicles

So I don't think a lone Mage 2E game was really going to be a hit. The plot mutated into something along the lines of Contagion Chronicles (realities colliding oh noes!), so I'm wondering this:

Would people be open to a Contagion Chronicles game where there's the Sworn and the False as playable factions? If so, other than mage, what would be the easiest splats to implement with (vampire, demon, changeling, werewolf, beast, and potentially deviant are the choices), and would anyone be willing to help out?

If so, just drop me a line. Thanks!

The Trove has the 2nd edition books if you want to find them that way.

I know Scion. I'm not going to learn a diff system just to run something. Sorry

    • Scion 2E Online Tabletop

Anyone wanna do something like this? I'm starting to get tired of nWoD/COD, so I wanna go do some Scion-y shenanigans. I could open up a small server or maybe open up an AresMUSH that uses Scion2E and just have people post their sheets.

      If anyone's interested lemme know.

@GreenFlashlight Very unexpected. He got hit by a car and died almost instantly. He was a little guy. We buried him in the backyard this afternoon. A lady found his body and called us saying she put it on the side of the road.

My dog died last night. I didn't think I'd take it this hard, but I am.

    • RE: Magicy Shenanigans - high fantasy or more modern

I want to emphasize the master/apprentice relationship like Dean Fogg has with all the students. I don't really want the students to be running around like crazy doing Marina-esque things right off the bat. They're going to struggle like early Quentin and Julia. Magic is hard. It comes from pain and all that.

I do like the difference with rotes and praxis though. I think that definitely applies with what happens post Brakebills South. It could also be some difference between hedge magicians and regular magicians.

I'm sticking with the original plan.

I'm going with Mage the Awakening 2nd edition. The change will be:

      1. Paradox obviously is different (don't worry about it unless it's for plot purposes like the source of magic running out)
      2. The only spells you can cast are rotes. You gotta buy the arcana (representing study) /and/ the rote.
      3. Creative thaumaturgy is allowed in that masters can create new rotes. So gotta master those arcana!

That's abou it for the house rules I cna think of. I'm thinking of playtesting this out on Golden Road. If you're interested. hit me up there.

I'd be down for it. I think Ravenswood (a Heroes game) was option #2 where you said what you wanted and staff built your sheet for you.

@TiredEwok @seamus @WildBaboons I'll look at Dresden Files, Witchcraft, and Armageddon. Cinematic Unisystem is relatively easy to code.

@The-Sands Yes, but the code for that project will be immense.

I like Hero System in general, but magic in it has always been clunky. Not to mention, coding all that for a MUSH would be a PITA.

If anyone wants to playtest it, DM me and I'll send you an address so I can run some basic stories and see how it goes!

So I think I have found a system for a Brakebills game.

We can use Mage the Awakening 2nd Edition with al the yantras, etc.

Standard WoD build. People can buy arcana. But they can't cast spells unless it's a rote. IE you need it on your sheet.

Magicians and hedge wizards can only access rotes. Players are welcome to do "creative thaumaturgy" but that requires research and other actions (and OOC coding time to put it into the database) before they can cast it as a spell proper.

      Thoughts?

I wasn't thinking of doing a Kill 6 Billion Demons game. As much as I like the comic, I'm not that interested in it as a MU*.

      So back to the topic:

Brakebills or the world of Ciress from Mystic?

The latter is the world of Ciress, minus the sigil bearer pretty much.

    • RE: Magicy Shenanigans - high fantasy or more modern

@Ominous I've been reading the Cross Gen comics again and have been inspired by the myth arc of The First and the world of Mystic. It could definitely play out as a cool L&L type game, but you're right, people seem to be yearning for Brakebills. I could get in on either action, which is why I'm crowdsourcing the answer!

Now, what systems would we use?

For the earlier idea, I could see Dark Ages Mage being used or just say scrap the system and make something from scratch or jigger up some Ares thing.

What would be best for Magicians/Brakebills/Fillory?

    • Magicy Shenanigans - high fantasy or more modern

I'm planning on doing another game. I definitely want magic involved as I'm a huge mage person, and I think high fantasy action is always called for. I ahve a few ideas what to pursue, but I want to see what people think. The ideas are simple.

      1. A world of pure magic where the governments are basically run by different guilds. Think of them as the different magical styles, and the intrigues that happen when different guilds try to take more territory for one another. What sorts of magical intrigue and politicking happens as a result? Think HIGH MAGIC L&L game. If you're familiar with the Cross-gen comic Mystic, it is mostly inspired by that.

      2. The Magicians. Set at the school. Think seasons 2 or later. None of the book characters, but more inspired from the comic when the school opens up to hedge magicians and the tensions that arise a a result.

      3. Fuck it all. Don't do magic.
