@Coin Rusty doesn't like it when she can't be part of conversations her humans are in. She was merely singing the song of her people!

You should (?) see her when she's listening to Beyonce or Queen, that damn pink featherball goes crazy with excitement. But she's really sweet (for example she'd never bite anyone even though she can chomp through enormous pieces of wood in a heartbeat and she murders cardboard boxes), especially when she's being petted. An annoying little raptor she can be but she means well. 🙂

My ears are still ringing, is all I'm saying.

I think the number of players who can write as well as a harpy, who play harpies, and will create a twitter account are so few that it is unsustainable, and not worth the effort save for the novelty. I suspect that the number of other players willing to follow said twitter will number in the high single digits, though if many players use twitter no harm in adding it.

That can be said about so many things in our hobby. That's why it's a hobby: none of what we do should be expected to be anywhere near a professional level.

@Coin Please, bitch. Rusty isn't fucking anything!

Showing me a picture of your monster bird isn't helping your case. Also, he sure as fuck sounds like he is. I have never had such a frustrating Skype call in my life, and I've had Skype calls that just end repeatedly for no reason. Which, come to think of it, would have been a blessing when assaulted by your horrifying pet's death knell. At least, I hope it was a death knell, 'cuz fucking dying is the only reason something should sound like that.

      IC twitter stuff.

What about it? I'm not sure what you're insinuating, is all. Like, are you saying "players aren't expert writers and thus can't/shouldn't do this"? Expound, please.

I have two dogs (and a cat, and a cockatoo...). If they're barking I go bring them inside immediately; if they do it at my neighbors for any amount of time I'm embarrassed and want to apologize, not blame them for having the audacity to stand outside their own home while my pets make noise and disturb everyone.

      What's wrong with people.

It depends on the person. For example, some people have fucking cockatoos.

On RfK I argued that we should set up twitter accounts for our vampires and have IC twitter brawls. The players were worried it would make outsiders over-react.

      What? In what way?

Right before I started MUing, I was playing in Livejournal games (we used AIM, and then a private MU, for our scenes) and one of the things I loved the most was the complicity of "private" posts that every player could see, and the comment wars on journal entries. That shit was amazing and so much fun.

I can't remember exactly how the conversation went, but creating twitter accounts for the characters of the MUSH is still something I'd like to try. Having the harpy actually tweet biting blow by blow commentary about the weeky court complete with hashtags would be amazing.

Absolutely. I'm surprised it got shot down.

My style is not an option either.

I usually keep my pages on my character´s window and I spawn only channels that I need to pay attention consistently. For example, if I am staffing, or if I am the lead or administrator of an important, active faction, I will spawn that channel off to the side so that I can see it clearly and follow conversations. Otherwise, I usually just leave them in my character window because I tend to have too many tabs open as it is and it clutters. This is why Atlantis's way of organizing spawns looks so amazing to me.

Angry at myself, and angry that I'm angry. Grr.

Bright side: actually made an appointment with a therapist for the first time?

Additional anger/peeve - that it took me this fucking long to actually make that appointment.

Eta: ...why do I not listen to my friends? =/

Good on you for making the appointment. Here´s to you and your new therapist synching.

Okay last post in a row, I'm catching up.

Who is going to watch Vinyl? Am I the only one super excited about this? A show about the seedy 70's rock scene produced by Scorsese and MICK JAGGER? Have you seen the previews? The booze, the guitars, the mustaches, the PANTS.

      It's just me isn't it 😞

P.S. How does +combat deal with characters who have specific powers that function turn to turn and can be used or not? Do those have to be accounted for each roll? What's up with that? If everything is automated it feels like there might be a gap in using strategy when it comes to your character actions.

There is some strategy involving your selection of attack (normal / called shot / full-auto / disarm / keep their heads down) and your selection of stance (evasive / cautious / aggressive / etc. )

But FS3 combat was designed for Battlestar, with an eye towards working for modern games too. Thus there really aren't any "powers" like the kind you speak of. Someone would have to code that in and figure out how they wanted it to work.

Then part of my feedback would be an inclusion of that sort of thing. Simple systems are great, but the problem is that they tend to fall apart when you introduce more options (naturally).

It's kind of a disappointment that there's no, for example, urban fantasy possibilities for FS3. To be clear, a disappointment isn't your fault, but rather born from my own expectations.

All of this sounds like it could be easily fixed by just having the option for non-exponential XP costs. Like, I'm pretty sure @faraday could add an option that switched Skill costs to "2 XP per point, period" from whatever it is. And then game runners who agree with @bored's point of view (which I do, even if not as insultingly) could do that, and other game runners who prefer the exponential progression could use that (and avoid having to deal with @bored, assuming he stops playing on game with progressions he doesn't like--unlikely).

I mean--it's your system, @faraday, but it sounds to me like you want people to use it. If it's not too difficult and would open it up to more options, and make it palatable to more people, it kind of sounds like a no-brainer.

P.S. How does +combat deal with characters who have specific powers that function turn to turn and can be used or not? Do those have to be accounted for each roll? What's up with that? I note with fascination that the person responsible for my whining about a lack of blocking is now banned.

Is, perhaps, the installation of a blocking plugin a higher priority now, or shall I invite Bane here to stink up the place as a way to hammer home the need?

One could argue that blocking isn't needed since the people who seem to make it desirable are bad enough to get banned. >.>

So it's settled. @Coin is making Camazotz Game. Xibalba. Yesplzkthx.

We mixed a lot of Mayan and Aztec stuff (and maybe some Incan?) as backdrop and linguistic roots for the Camazotz. Xibalba was what they called the Underworld--natch--but there was a lot of Nahuatl there, too. I didn't want to limit it to just one of the major Pre-Colonization American native cultures. I wanted all those cultures sort of hodge-podge mixed in as remnants of something that the Camazotz belonged to long before even the Olmecs.

Also, Nahuatl was a lot easier to snag words from and fuck around with, linguistically, which back then was a draw. I hadn't even started studying the intricacies of linguistics back then.

Also, IIRC, Nahuatl was a lot more robust in terms of "violent" words, and a lot of what we needed had to do with blood and cutting and shit like that, so. Heh.
