@Arkandel That would be an awesome relationship. Especially for vampires, who literally CAN nurse grudges into eternity.

I always wanted a Professor X/Magneto relationship - where two people who were very close personally had been split by ideology, and were each passionately committed to destroying the works of the other...all the time hoping that "winning" would make the other person realize that they were Right All Along and they could be besties again.

Dibs on the Ordo Dracul vs. your ... honestly, the Order can be an ideological enemy to just about any other Covenant. >.>

But they're all vampires. And vampires are terrible. 😛

      So picky.

I'm a picky bitch, it's true! I just never got into the appeal of playing Vampire. At least, as it seems to be played on MU*s. I can see the appeal of the scrappy, newly-dead trying to maintain sanity in the face of an eternity spent playing meaningless political games with corpses that literally have nothing better to do with their lives.

I have never been able to understand the appeal of playing the corpses that literally have nothing better to do with their lives than meaningless political games, and...that's the game.

      All right. Mage then? [ducks]

Only if I get to throw some goddamned fireballs.

Changeling, then. I woudln't want Paradox to outshine me as your nemesis.

Hell yeah. Changeling crazy is the best crazy, and I get to throw goddamned fireballs.

You probably would have liked my first changeling on The Reach.

I love rituals/cults. I know a handful of others who do as well so when we've been able to coordinate schedules (which doesn't happen often) it's fantastic rp. I actually have many notebooks and regular books collected over the years for inspiration for writing/development! Even 1 on 1 those are awesome engaging scenes.

I love IC nemeses. I have been one and had one quite a few times. What I have sadly learned though is that while I find I rarely have to vet the person I'm going to be frenemies with, since the people who are serious (vs. the Victimize Me! teeheehee People) are almost always awesome...I do now know it's good to know who their friends are. If they hang with ooc white knights it's not going to be worth the ooc drama and headache.

That's why if I know I'm going to be someone's nemesis, you can be sure my character will get super pissed at people who interrupt their nemesis-ing.

That's my archnemesis you're messing with. NO ONE GETS TO FUCK THEIR SHIT UP EXCEPT MEEEEEEEEEEE

I have a little brother. I know how this works.

I think it's also easier if you and the other player go into it knowing who will win, lose, or if the point is for it to be a bitter stalemate. You don't have to decide on how the win/lose will eventually happen (save this for RP!), but you'll likely avoid any feelings of butthurt if the two players walk into it knowing that eventually playerB will take the bad guy role and eventually lose to playerA

Or just put clear, OOC limitations regarding what's acceptable, and make sure neither player will be a sore loser.

OOC communication is key, yeah, I think. And a game culture that accepts and encourages non-fatal conflicts. So, having ways to throw roadblocks and obstacles at people that aren't all about combat, or taking things away permanently from people.

I think a perfect(-ish) scenario involves both characters wanting A, but A is only possible if both characters are still around. An example escapes me at the moment, but essentially: killing the other person won't work, neither will taking them out of play in some other permanent fashion, so you have to maneuver the situation--and winning might not even be permanent. It might--and should!--be possible for the opponent to strike back and create a new conflict you can reap for RP.

The only thing worse (and less likely) for the average gamer than running away is surrendering to be captured. It's very, very hard to get them to do either of those things, unless it's their idea.

The scene I MOST always wanted to have is a very specific one. I had a character who had a friend. They were both Lost, and therefore crazy, and the friend descended into paranoid delusions that included peppering my character's apartment with crime scene photos of his dead girlfriend before he went into hiding. We talked, OOC, about my character tracking him down and having the most epic and pathetic crazy slapfight ever -- because we were both thinky-type characters, and had absolute crap for combat rolls. Sadly, it never happened.

More generally, though, I've always, always wanted an enemies/rivals to reluctant-and-snarky friends storyline, with all the scenes involved in that. Ideally, it would include at least one unsuccessful murder attempt on each side, and then either the old-fashioned trope of getting stuck in a situation they can't get out of without working together, or just finding someone else they both hate so much that they bond over it.

I would damn near pay money for this storyline with two characters that had real chemistry.

I will play this with you. Well, I will try, chemistry being a fickle mistress.

I still do it--I think there's only been one PC of mine in recent memory that doesn't barf at blood/guts/weirdness or do silly things like shout and pretend they're going to stand their ground but rarely am I called on it and have to turn tail and run. :). But it is really a bummer that most of the time people don't even blink.

I did get a ton of hilarious pemits when my ghoul lost her lunch at a vampire execution on TR though.

Two things: 1) people will call you stupid for your character doing stupid things, usually because it affects them or because they don't like you anyway and are just clinging to the nearest thing they can judge you for; 2) in my experience the vast majority of people love players who do that sort of hilarious thing... they just don't feel comfortable being that character because omg what if they look dumb?!

It might be more, but only two have risen to the level of noticeable to me. It's still a relatively small number. Downvotes can be turned off, but I really do see them as a single instance of disagreement/disapproval rather than a tool for pettiness. Otherwise, I'd ask @EmmahSue and @Thenomain if we should turn them off all-together.

I should probably look at making downvotes visible, but as @Arkandel mentioned in the start of this thread: twitching.

I've never really downvoted anyone that I would mind knowing I downvoted them, so it's a non-issue for me. I think lots of people feel the same. With some exceptions of the petty variety.

@Coin It's not actually "lots". There's only two people off the top of my head who are/were the petty "I don't like your face so I downvote everything you write" variety. I also think it's a bit annoying that downvotes aren't visible to users, since I do see it more often as a single note of disagreement on any given post.

Felt like more to me, but I could be wrong. I don't actually see them, so I'll take your word for it.
