I don't know. There's a laid out system of governance, factions that you're able to join, "character classes" in a way, the possibility of super powers, and a cinematic presentation of combat in a setting that has both structure, lore to play with, and an element of openness to make up stuff along the way.

@Coin is right about wanting to know more about the world, though.

While watching it the other night, it occurred to me that as a dystopian setting, Into the Badlands might be pretty perfect as a MUSH.

I think it's high time that D&D emphasized digital access, but aside from that? The editorial comments in that article are really kind of mean and stereotyped.

@Astrid There was The 100, and it was Camelot for a while before eventually going sour. But post-apoc would be kinda awesome.

The map on the main site is helpful but only to a degree, and since it doesn't have borders, it doesn't make it clear as to how large a given demesne is. Apparently Sam's March is ridiculously enormous, which is okay with me if only because it means I get to make up some cool regional story stuff.

Kind of a weather check, had a Guest page me inquiring about Deepwood.

They wanted to join Deepwood as a blood relation, and I explained that everybody in Deepwood is deader than a doornail. I did point to the current open roster character, noted I would be happy to accept OC knights and retainers, and proposed that if they really wanted a noble under Sam, Mia was available as well.

These options didn't suit them and I said sorry and noted I was still available if they needed more help.

Is this "blocking rp"? I feel like I did my best to be accommodating, is there something I could have done better?

I didn't think it was about me. But you felt it should be discussed, so I put in my two cents.

I did have reasons for being quiet, and not to be coy, but they're my own, and it's not to champion the game. I've openly criticized the game before, and to some degree, staff action, but never on an interpersonal manner until now. But the long and short of it is, yes, I DO think this was an overreaction on staff's part.

(And I kind of feel like I've made it about me which was not the intent, I'm sorry. Carry on.)

@Ganymede Discussing one topic does not mean I give no shits about another. I've simply kept the majority of my thoughts about it (@lordbelh's situation in particular) off the general boards.

I realize you're probably just using my post to leapfrog, but it kind of came off like that was a direct snark at me. If it wasn't, I apologize for assuming.

I kind of feel compelled to point out that this isn't a static issue. Thrax IS evolving.

      1. Several members of Thrax and their vassals have either openly or quietly indicated their desire to remove the institution.

      2. Political and trade alliances have been made to aid in releasing significant portions of the thrall population.

      3. Vassals now have the ability to modify the institution in a variety of ways, such as no longer imposing the debt of a parent on a child, minimum age requirements to be placed in thralldom, etc.

The goal with this is to abolish the institution without destroying Thrax economically, as well as be able to guide those in thralldom slowly into their rights and freedoms. And it is happening at a measured rate. Whether it's happening fast enough for all parties is a matter of IC discussion.

I've observed that the institution of thralldom is one that pretty much all of the other sub-kingdoms of the Compact find anathema, and that most likely it has been an institution long overlooked for the necessity of political and martial advantage.

Vocally speaking out against thralldom has not been something many people want to risk doing until recently, and even more recently there may be greater legitimization for ending the institution sooner rather than later, which would more or less fuck Thrax up. Even my radically liberal character doesn't want to see Thrax destroyed for doing what she believes to be the righteous thing.

(God, if we had PvP I suspect Thrax would have had her murdered months ago!)

@Shayd: I'm...not really sure what thralls or Thrax has to do with this? Yeah, you ICly and OOCly made an assumption that didn't work out well for you. The lesson of that incident is: don't make assumptions. The bi-erasure was not on purpose, but it still happened. I It doesn't make you "bad" it's just a lesson, you've learned it, time to move on.

Oaths are taken extremely seriously in Arvum, so much so there is a deity dedicated to oaths. Polygamy (NOT polyamory) is anathema. So honestly if your fellow expressed how much he loved several people and that had been that, I doubt he would have had much reaction from anyone, at least not publically. People's personal opinions of polyamory are just that, personal, and are not relevant to the broader social morals.

But he mentioned wanting to MARRY all of these people, after which he asked for the hand of one of the most elligible, high ranking women on the continent. Basically, it's like he decided to appear on Sister Wives announcing that he wants to live by the Principle, and then turned around, called Obama and was like, "Hey, can I marry Malia?"

@saosmash said in Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning:

Technically I think the bi erasure came after the duel was already happening. To be fair.

I am compelled to disagree. @Shayd put forth the idea that it was an "either men or women" idea to begin with, and then implied that being attracted to both men and women naturally alludes to polygamy/polyamory. (All ICly, to be clear.)

While this is wholly pondering on my part, I suspect that had his character expressed interest in multiple people as lovers no one would say boo, because having multiple lovers is not anathema. But there IS a very particular cultural opinion about marriage and the oath involved and that is where the kerfluffle began. It proceeded to degrade from there.

With that in mind, I also want to point out that @Shayd ICly apologized an dueled and was beaten, and was reasonably gracious about it.

PS - @Roz any time Aleksei wants to be Sam's cabana boy/palm leaf fanner/alternate dinner date. I'M NOT SAYING, I'M JUST SAYING.
