RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@macha Here where I live, the vacancy rate for rentals (this includes single family homes as well, not just apartments) is 31%. Rather than lower rents, they just raise the cost for existing tenants. It makes no sense whatsoever.

RE: Developing a WoD Codebase for Ares

@rucket Hmm, this is good to know. I'll have to look into it more.
I haven't tried creating a fully realized Chargen in Ares yet, but surely, custom plugins act as mixins, meaning that you can over-load pretty much any part of the base game without running into problems with updates later?
I've created a space system, inventory system and a few other things that did not affect my ability to update because the code was all isolated to my own plugins. -

So regarding shopping carts, does the USA not have the thing where the carts have a chain and lock to each other, meaning you can only remove one from the stack by putting in a coin, that is then released when the cart is returned and chained back up again?
Here leaving a cart (or shopping trolley to use local parlance) rolling around the car park means you are leaving a Ā£1 coin in it and so people rarely do such things.
Aldi is the only place I know of that does this. It costs much less though-- 25 cents, which works out to about 18p-- probably because most Americans hate the $1 coins and refuse to use them.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
At least it's only 25 cents for the cart here in the US.
These days they have people cleaning and disinfecting the carts after each use so they don't bother locking them up anymore. Which is nice for people like me, who can never remember to bring a quarter for the cart.

RE: Random "this might be useful" stuff
Wal-Mart Pharmacy is the cheapest place that I have found for prescriptions, especially for people without insurance.

That said.
I love adaptive all wheel drive.
And seeing kids making snowmen and throwing snowballs was p damn heartwarming.Meanwhile it's 57 and sunny here in Southern Maryland. It's as if our weather is reversed.

RE: Best MU* Client for Mac?
Atlantis. It's old but probably still better than all the others.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Dammit.
Just got the first bill for my 2021 health insurance plan and discovered that it went up by $197/month. That brings it up to almost $500/month and it isn't even a good plan

RE: How are you coping with COVID (and other 2020 fun)?
NGL, Covid hasn't had much of an impact on me at all.
Sure I was furloughed back in April but with the extra $600 a week I was getting with my unemployment, and the $1200 payout by the feds, I made out like a bandit. It was basically a 3 month paid vacation. So what if I squandered most of the money on a top of the line gaming laptop...
The only real problems for me have been having to wear a ^%#&# mask everywhere and the stores being out of stuff (tp, paper towels, beef, SPAM, etc. How the hell do you run out of SPAM??). The being stuck at home part is a non-issue for me as I pretty much only work and go home anyway.
I spent a lot of time on Twitch, Youtube, Hulu and hacking on my Evennia game. I also dug out a few boxed sets (Xena, Hercules, The Nanny, Babylon 5, ST:Voyager...). I also slept. A lot.

@darren I don't tend to have this issue? I think it may be a setting somewhere.
I'm pretty sure this is due to the way that iOS works. On Android an app can use a background service to keep your connection alive. On iOS, only apps that have been blessed by Apple may run background services. The workaround is the app periodically sends a notification warning you that it may soon timeout, so that you can open it, which resets the idle timer.
At least I think that is how it works.

They sell them where I live in the States.
Iām salty about the lack of ketchup chips.
Doesn't Wal-Mart carry them? I swear I have seen them in my local supercenter.

@reversed switch to iPhone and get MUDRammer
At least Mukluk can stay connected indefinitely (assuming your connection cooperates) without needing to be constantly reopened like MUDRammer does.

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
The only way I could get it to work properly on macOS is by replacing the hopelessly out of date system TK bundle with something up to date, such as ActiveTK (which I believe is still free for development use), then downloading the UNIX source for Potato (not the Mac binary) and running the script manually. It works but it's a PITA. You'll probably be better off switching to Atlantis.

Thanksgiving 2020 means ordering a turkey bowl and chorizo mac & cheese from WaWa and drinking hard cider until I no longer care that this is the first Thanksgiving in 20 years that I have spent away from my family.

Nonsense! Space systems are my jam.
