@Darren Thank you - this is clarifying!

So once you have that sweet framework in place, you could use Python to code a bespoke +jobs system, for instance -- or if an accomplished Python coder had already written a functional +roll system using XYZ game specs and you got permission, you can slot it in to the existing codebase?

Absolutely. While Evennia is intentionally bare-bones out of the box, it's not that difficult to zhuzh it up.

It might help to just think of it as a MUD server, like PennMUSH or TinyMUX. After installing Evennia and initializing your own game, you basically end up with a very barebones MU* with only a few commands, rather like what you would have if you started a PennMUSH game from scratch. You get a channels system, page/say/emit/pose commands, builder commands, very basic room and characters classes, and not much else (ie, no mail, BBS, jobs, scenes, etc systems).

    • RE: Need Python Code Projects

The problem with the standalone project approach is that it might help you learn Python but it won't help you learn Evennia.

If you want to learn Evennia, the best way (IMO) is to dive in. Start with something small-- I think my first project was changing the appearance of the room parent-- then work your way up to more complex things. If you don't know Python at all then taking a course (or investing in a good Python book) will definitely help, especially when it comes to more advanced topics (such as django).

If you need help, jump on the Evennia Discord server (I think you're on it already?).

MUSHes historically don't get a lot of traffic from MUDConnector

That simply isn't true. Until the site died earlier this year, it was, hands down, the best place to advertise your MUSH.

While it's true that most of the discourse there was MUD related, a good many MUSHers frequented the site as well. An ad on TMC was pretty much guaranteed to bring a flood of new traffic to your game.

      UberEats delivering food via bicycle.

      There's no opt-out.

Unless the restaurant is nearby (in which case it's as fast or faster than with a car) the food's always dramatically late, then it takes a long time and jumping several hoops to complain about it.

Fortunately I live in a rural area. Bike delivery simply isn't an option here since everything is so spread out.

      Pugmire/Monarchs of Mau.

If I wasn't 100% certain that it would turn into FurryMUCK Jr in short order, I'd have made that game ages ago!

Game told me it needed to reboot, I shut down to reboot, and now everytime I try digital ocean locks me out of the server. Soo.... as soon as I get that fixed we'll be back.

It usually takes a few minutes for the reboot process to complete.

That really does look nice. I may have to borrow this idea for my Evennia game.

Naw. It's set in the 80s. It'll be the game room amongst the Pacman and Joust machines.

      OMG Joust! My favorite ❤

I'm not sure if this has been said here before, but one of the perks to wearing a mask is I haven't had anyone tell me 'you should smile' in months.

I've been told numerous times that my neutral expression makes me look mad, so I get that all the time.

I continue to play mainly to code and socialize, and that's only because I've been doing this for what feels like forever and I simply don't have the energy to make the transition to a different platform.

I used to dislike pancakes but I've always loved waffles. This past year however I keep finding myself making pancakes as a snack. Go fig.

Why not? They're cheap ($7.40 for a 10lb bag of mix at Wally World), easy to make, taste great and are more filling than Ramen. Pancakes are one of my go-go to meals on those nights when I crawl home from work without the energy to even take off my shoes, let alone cook.

I love pancakes. In fact, I had pancakes, scrapple and home fries for breakfast this morning. With butter and grape jam on the pancakes, as Nature intended 😉

@Auspice Man, I live in the pacific northwest and every single time I have tried out chicken with waffles it has had a motherfucking bone in it. This knowledge you are sharing that it is supposed to be a boneless chicken tender makes the whole thing make so much more sense.

That was where I tried it. I JUST MISSED MY SOUTHERN FOOD. Yeah, the PNW is fucking it up.

It's not supposed to have a bone in it!

Imagine those long chicken tenders (some places call 'em chicken fingers) instead. That's what you should have with chicken and waffles.

There's a taco place here in TX called Torchy's and every month they have a taco of the month and one month they did a chicken and waffles taco.... It was a flour tortilla topped with a waffle topped with bacon topped with a fried egg topped with a chicken tender and then syrup over top and I honestly dream of that thing sometimes.

I'd have to Nope! out of trying that. If I want sweet chicken, I'll order some General Tso's.

We're talking two TOTALLY DIFFERENT KINDS OF SWEET.

Yeah but I don't even like syrup on pancakes.

      @Prototart And Gulyás!

when i was in, idk, 6th grade I think I got into this gigantic fight with a boy because he brought “Hungarian goulash” to lunch and it was some weird casserole thing with noodles and that was the first time I’d ever seen what a horrible thing protestants had done to gulyás and i honestly still just deeply resent it

Sounds like American Goulash, which is essentially just spaghetti made with macaroni noodles. Can't say I've ever heard it referred to as Hungarian Goulash though. We normally just call it goulash.

There's supposed to be another round of stimulus checks coming sometime in June. I dunno about your state but mine will be continuing the $600 stimulus money added to your unemployment, until the end of July.
