    • RE: I need a god damn Expanse MU.

For the record, I had started work on an Expanse game earlier this summer but I was never able to find any help so I ran out of steam and moved on to other projects.

The server is still up and work could easily be resumed if there was sufficient interest. It's Evennia though, and mostly just code at the moment; there's no grid or anything yet.

The RPG is not that great IMO (it uses the Adventure Game Engine) but it's good for background material. If I was to make such a game, I would probably use either Savage Space, or maybe TinyFrontier (TinyD6 is awesome) instead, with hand-picked bits from the official RPG to flesh out the setting.

I’m sorry, since when does anyone consider Minaj to be the Queen of Rap?

Since Pink Friday ❤ came out?

Seriously though, she might not be the queen but she's definitely royalty.

People steal the hell out of that stuff. When I worked part-time at a Dollar General last year, baby things, including formula and diapers, Tide and tampons were among the items most often stolen. I swear it's like some people would rather steal the essentials so they have more money to spend on cheap booze and crack.

Late to the party, but the reason those are stolen is so they can be resold at lower rates. Diapers are an exceptionally common stolen item.

Yep. In fact, there is a Facebook group for my area where people frequently post those types of things for sale. I remember having to explain it to my SO because he couldn't figure out why people were selling those things on FB (hey, he's cute but dumb sometimes <3).

    • RE: Which text editor?

IMO, Sublime Text is the best text editor and Visual Studio Code is the best code editor. Both run on all major platforms and are widely supported by third party libraries and tools.

    • RE: Sexuality: IC and OOC

I used to call myself bisexual, but that wasn't entirely accurate because I generally was more attracted to women than to men. Since we've had all these new ways of describing our sexuality, I've taken to calling myself hetero-flexible, but that might not be accurate either since I've been, for the first time in my life, in a serious, monogamous relationship with another man that has lasted quite a while (over a year now, yay).

I'm honestly as confused about it now as I was when I was 14 and first had feelings for another guy. I thought we were supposed to have life figured out by the time we were my age 😞

@Auspice that does not seem like a thing that I would want my computer to do. In fact, it sounds very annoying!

      YES. SHARE YOUR SETUPS.

I love seeing peoples' desks, I won't lie.

Bah! My desk looked clean until I saw yours 😞

Wow some of you guys must have gargantuan desks. There's room for a single monitor on mine. Fortunately it's a 4k monitor and I don't really need another, but still...

Evennia runs just fine on Windows 10. See the installation instructions on the wiki for more information.

    • RE: Do you care about other people's music?

Sometimes I'll open an ambient techno Shoutcast stream while I am coding but other than that, I mainly listen to music from my massive MP3 library. I never really saw the point to any of the commercial streaming services. Why suffer through ads (or pay again) to listen to music that I already paid for?

    • RE: Has anyone ever set up a server just for a small group of friends?

We tried this but ended up switching to Discord because there's really no point to maintaining a MUSH server just so 4-5 people can get together once or twice per week to RP.

    • RE: Which device do you play from?

There was a time when my job wouldn't allow us to bring in our own devices, we were forced to use company supplied Chromebooks. At first I ssh'd to my MUD host and ran TF from there, but then I discovered DuckClient and liked it so much that I used it for several years, even installing it on my desktop at one point. Honestly, it isn't bad, unless you're a coder/builder and need FugueEdit support.

These days I bring my laptop (Linux Mint) in to work and I mostly MU* via Potato and sometimes BeipMU.

50% on my work laptop, 20% from my desktop, 30% from my other laptop.

    • RE: Space Sim w/Economy

It should be possible to handle alerts and such via the web portal, which would eliminate all/most of the spam in the client. It is also possible to do something clever with prompts but that would only work with a tiny handful of clients.

I am tempted to investigate creating my engine for Ares rather than Evennia, since Ares' web stuff is much further along and Django is such a beast.

So long as the game is primarily focused on RP, there is no reason not to have something like this as an alternative means of travel. IMO of course.

Sure, but this thread was specifically talking about a space-sim game with an economy system. Those tend to be less flexible about travel times just to keep folks from zipping around the universe making a zillion credits in a day.

It wouldn't be possible. You would need to have an actual ship equipped with a cargo bay and a market/cargo console.

Stuck on Londinum but your friend is on Persephone and you either don't have a ship, or don't want to bother learning to fly? No problem! Grab a shuttle and fast-travel there in just a couple of minutes. No piloting skills required.

If I thought people might actually play on it, I would dust off the code for my unfinished original sci-fi Evennia based game and start work on it again. Maybe restart it with a Star Wars theme since original sci-fi settings seem to be the kiss of death for MU*s.
