      • Who's Posing/%T Issues: A game with a posebreak can help a lot. A game with a scene logger will make it so that you don't have to worry about a lot of text massaging.

      • 3PR: The downside of 3PR is what we used to worry about: Shotgun posers. This is why enforced pose order became a thing; it wasn't just to be good and fair and fair and good, but because there are people who will pose one-line poses as other people are trying to type.

What this hobby needs is a 'posing indicator', so that there's some kind of notification that says this person is currently typing, so when people like me get to the 5 minute mark to see if anyone is typing, we can glance and get an update then move on.

I have seen posing indicators used extensively on some media... but I am honestly not sure how one could do that with current mushcode, since as far as I know nothing is sent until we hit enter. One would basically need to custom build their own client for their own game I would think.

Prospect: From the Ashes is up. Multi sphere, mostly Vampire, Gaian, and Mage.

I mention Gaian because well... it's not like there's a lot of werewolves, but tehre's a LOT of mortal + characters, and they tend to either side up with a shifter or a changeling.

Oh there was definitely merit to it, and a lot was learned. Unfortunately one of those things learned was "Don't put your biggest radiation bombs in the radiation belt or it will fuck with your ability to do any other tests for 20 years."

    • RE: Characters You Enjoyed Playing

Was a MUD instead of a MUSH, but hopefully those still count.

Anyway on Realms of Despair I had run across a lot of other thief characters that were the last surviving member of some town or village, or were just abandoned to the streets and in general were dour, and angsty folks.

So I made a pixie thief, who ran away from home to join the circus. Realized after a year the circus sucks, and went to go live in the city. Lacking any other skills needed to start a business in the city, like carpentry, or mercantile sense... or hell even common sense, she just took to taking things that looked like she could trade them for food and places to sleep.

II had a lot of fun with that character. Super friendly, cheerful and helpful, happily talking with anyone and everyone about anything she could... while disarming traps, or gouging out the eyes of their enemies. I mean you don't survive being only 2 feet tall in the streets without learning something about being terrifyingly vicious.

Always got a kick out of people being unsettled by her gleefully talking about this awesome new place she found that sells candy... while just completely covered head to toe in blood.

It's not that she LIKED killing things, she just didn't see why she should feel bad about killing someone that wanted her dead.

The Descent: a government-run program in the 1950s bombards the planet from orbit, which destroys much of civilization and rips the Gauntlet open, causing spirits to flood into the real world.

Actually as I recall, in 1962 the US military detonated a nuclear warhead in the Van Allen radiation belt for... honestly no other reason than "Hey we found this new thing let's nuke it!"

I can see that being the trigger point for the gauntlet being destroyed. Just putting that out there.

    • RE: Silly things you'd been tempted to do on/for a MU*

Character idea I have always kind of wanted to do anyway, but don't think it would work well on a MU:

A Silent Strider who is a long haul trucker, all of his background points in fetish go into his truck, which has two gifts: Messenger's fortitude, and Find Trouble.

The truck only needs gas once every three days, however it is invariably drawn to the road that leads to the worst trouble the truck can get to in that period of time, and will break down in towns just before Bad Things happen.

Strider can't get the truck working again until he solves the problem.

Not sure how to run a MUSH... but I certainly have an idea for a Faerun based D&D campaign.

    • RE: What locations do you want to RP in?

@Arkandel said in What locations do you want to RP in?:

@tragedyjones Sphere-only hangouts (Turs, Elysium, etc), mixed-sphere supernatural hangouts if applicable, and general public hangouts (bars, restaurants, etc).

Everything else is circumstantial for me, and usually/often spoofed as needed.

So about the mixed supernatural hang out, I've mentioned an idea I've been kicking around for a while, and wondered if you might have some ideas for it, or parts that you don't necessarily like the idea of.

Currently the idea would be building on top of some smuggler tunnels, not at all unlike Robin Hood's Bay in England. If things go very, very south, people can retreat into the tunnels and come out the other side. Anyone trying to really ambush the place would have to somehow fine the entrance to the tunnels, funnel people into a few areas AND attack it from above.

I noticed a lot of "cross sphere" places were always held together by some kind of magic that prevents fights and conflict within in general entirely... personally I find that rather stifling, especially since the character building it holds very strongly to the belief that conflict is the true forge for growth. Nothing has merit or worth until it has faced a challenge and overcome it.

As such the place would be kept "peaceful" by the promise of mutually assured destruction. As many possible opposing and hostile groups would be brought together, as long as the rules are followed no group is given a favorable position over the others.

If one group breaks the rules they are no longer offered the protection of the others there, and will likely face multiple hostile enemies who will gleefully crush them for a reward.

IN return for protecting the place, each faction is allowed to use it to use the location to settle disputes, letting them deal directly with people they couldn't normally and hopefully being able to solve things without people having to die.

Also instead of fights being entirely blocked or discouraged, they would be completely allowed to blow off steam and set up pecking orders under the condition that no one is to be killed or permanently harmed unless that was part of the "negotiation" they had agreed on.

Does that sound like a kind of place that would be acceptable, or would the "high stress" you think be too much for most characters?

    • RE: POLL: Super Hero MU Gut Check

I'll admit I'm going to be kind of an outlier, but I would prefer a focused theme for sure, but I'm not really a fan of using existing, or featured characters.

If something is using an established universe like say Marvel, and you're all in Hell's kitchen, I'd rather see a batch of newer heroes dealing with the struggles of being in a highly violent area, rather than having someone playing the Heroes for Hire or Daredevil.

Basically try and set up a challenge they all have to face... which admittedly makes mutants a good setting. No matter what you can do, you all have to face the same problem with constant attempts to make you register with the government, Sentinels, other asshats that resemble you blowing up city hall with their mind...

You can measure the angle we can view the sun at different places to be different at the same time, and the difference could not be accounted for solely by the variance of the sun's position.

A flat earther would point out that Eratosthenes' math also works out if the earth is flat and the sun is both small and close by.

Well I mean, look at it, if I hold a quarter out about arms length it would block the whole thing. It can't be that big!

      @Cupcake

Sorry I'm jumping back to the first post to answer the question, apologies if we've moved on.

Personally the way I looked at it, most of the things that go on in MU environments that are harmful can only happen in a vacuum. They can only be done so long as the majority of people involved remain ignorant of it.

The purpose of this isn't shaming people to change their behaviors. It's to have a third party that will look at all sides of the argument going on with an equal amount of derision.

I have no illusions that you guys like EITHER side of an argument I am apart of, I'm pretty sure you hate all of us, which means that your replies are more likely to be honest. If I am being a shitbag, you will tell me. I will take the realization that I'm the one that fucked up and will use that going forward.

If the other person is being a shitbag, then they have to face it, and move on from there.

What's most important is that other people who are in the periphery who would have known nothing until either of us being dicks screwed them over, now get to see exactly what kind of dicks they are dealing with and can now prepare appropriately, instead of everyone sitting in their own echo chambers hearing about how their terrible ideas are perfectly right and everyone else is a meany for calling them out on their mistakes.

Most important: don't play a female (granted, this only applies if you're going to TS a gay guy)

It never fails to amaze me how many people try to force this anyway (from any given direction). It actively bothers me, and I'm bi, ffs.

I'm honestly not too surprised by it. I have several friends that often have women flirting with them specifically because they know they are gay. There's apparently as many women who have the fantasy of being the girl to turn a gay guy straight as there are guys who have the fantasy to turn a lesbian straight. (Though not as many as there are with men who fantasize of turning a lesbian bi.)

Well it's open now. We're just still putting in policies, so it's basically kind of in beta testing more than anything.

      @DnvnQuinn
Prospect was the split that Sponge and Coyote created before pulling the plug on everything. We just carried over the files we still had in place (since most of us were helping to build the new places) to a new server and picked up where we left off.

Right now though I only have time for one , so I'm sticking over at Prospect and Cayo Agua. We're working on policies right now so it's not all the way up unfortunately.
