@Kodiak Maybe? I honestly can’t even keep track of who I’m married to any more.

I think this is where we ping @Seraphim73 and ask him how he copes. I mean, by my count, he's been married to about 6 different PCs played by the same person, so at some point you get a little schizophrenic trying to keep track of them all in an IC context.

So I am something called Guanfacine. I take one pill before bed.

So far there's some serious cotton mouth, and generally i feel a little wrapped in gauze but I had trouble staying asleep.

OTOH, is seems to balance out the jitteriness of the prozac.

      So far... alright.

I just recently changed from guanfacine to clonodine. The former just wasn't doing a thing, so far as I could tell. I felt like there was a difference from when I first started it, to present day. Haven't really noticed any cotton mouth, but the amitriptylin has been my major dry mouth contributor in the first place so perhaps I just lumped it all together.

Any of you ADHD kids have a klepto phase when you were younger?

Not really. I've had a fairly rules-oriented life, especially during childhood, so even incidental kleptomania was not something that happened because it was "wrong" to take someone else's things without their permission or knowledge.

Names that begin with the letter A are by far the most numerous out of all the letters of the (English) alphabet.

      @Livia Something like that.

Who wouldn't want to play Sorin Markov or Sarkhan the Dragonspeaker, though?

My best played (as in, 9 w/1 l) deck in Magic Arena was, ironically, a monoblue Jace control/denial deck.

I wouldn't. If I had to pick a canonical (printed as an actual card) planeswalker to play in an RPG, it'd probably be Garruk, simply because they've been printing some pretty ridiculous green creatures lately. Hi Questing Beast. Plus, they haven't really done much with Garruk in the narrative; his whole cursed storyline felt like a "meanwhile, back on..." sort of side event.

Hey Texas when I said I wanted cooler weather I didn't mean go from upper 90s to lower 50s in the space of 24 hours.

This is pretty much how it's been here in central WA for the past month. Today was cool but the sun made it just enough that a jacket was going to make you too warm. Last week it was temperate. This week is cold if it's cloudy, cool w/ conditions if it's sunny.

I'm half-expecting it to be temperate in November, which means we'll get the White Death (snow) enough to be a nuisance.

Lately I have really found myself grateful for the rise of streaming, but not so much TV in general so much as the fact that there are a number of people on YouTube, Twitch, etc. that really do interesting things that I find far more entertaining than scripted shows.

For instance, watching certain high-level gamers, or HornetKing's (YouTube) channel on bee/wasp nest removals and their behavior, and Li Ziqi's channel on rural Chinese life are some examples of content I find intriguing.

In general, though, I love that it's easier to find actual filmed content on specific subjects now, such as DIY wilderness survival.

@Cupcake My therapist worries because I cling to the same humor/deflection even when I'm talking about the dark things. That I deliver it all logically.

Then, at the end of the session today, she remarked that it might be a good thing, right now. I might need it to cling to. So something feels normal. I'm just such a mess, right now.

This is something my own therapist has mentioned to me as well. I've been trained in left-brain arts since I was a child, because I always focused on math and sciences (especially computer science, when younger) and going into adulthood I still feel the need to try to analyze everything, including emotions and responses, just to see if there is a rational source. The closest I've come to really expressing myself would probably be MU*ing with the occasional mini writing projects I give myself (that I somehow never finish).

That said, in early August I had a bit of a meltdown and I've been kind of freaking out about the disruption in the background, and one thing that I too have been told is to try and stick to what is normal for you. We have a bit of a subconscious need for normalcy, and if rational expression is what you do, stick with it. Heal first, always.

    • RE: L&L Options?

I'm not sure this is a non-sequitor or not, but when it comes to L&L games, I feel like a lot of people want to be the functional equivalent of Lara Croft: higher society, but gets out and about and Gets Stuff Done(tm), even if it's not practical to do so because of a variety of reasons (expectations by that society, for one, as well as keeping the House afloat).

In other words, I feel like it all boils down to "I want to have my cake and eat it too."

I realize I'm being a bit of a peanut gallery here, but I always feel like "No and here's why" should be the default for most (not necessarily all) answers from staff, particularly if it touches on points of theme. Not all points can be disclosed in detail, especially if the subject involves any ongoing plots and metaplots, but I do think being terse should be avoided more often than not.

@insomniac7809 said in Staff scrutiny during CGen:

I've never been a fan of super involved backgrounds.

Like, I'll usually start out with maybe a couple paragraphs painting in broad strokes, with room to fill in details as I go. I've always been a very 'develop in play' sort of guy; I actually really like whichever FATE system encourages you to put your sheet together after start, once you've gotten a feel for them.

And I really don't like being asked to explain every single number on my sheet. "Why does your law student have the stat profile of a Navy SEAL," okay, legit. "Where and how did your petty criminal pick up some basic larceny skill," man, I don't know, get off my back.

When did we all decide backstory was the be-all of a new character, anyway?

I do a lot of this myself ('develop in play') and this was particularly true on Arx. Normally I'd have a 1-2 page background for any char I CG, but this time it was significantly less, simply because I was sure I would make a faux pas or five if I went for details. Usually it's a general outline (here are the major points that sounds like a narrative), and for my D&D chars in particular they were very much fill-in-the-blank BGs.

    • RE: Wheel of Time

      Unapologetic necro.

The main thing I think of when it concerns WoT as a theme for MU*ing is the power disparity, but since that and the other major points were already covered, this is where I'm at:

It would have to be virtually a homebrew theme loosely based on the books. Whether that includes notable locations and organizations such as the White Tower or not is one of the major questions. The reason I think it needs to be basically homebrew/customized has to do with addressing the channeler : non-channeler power ratio. Every PC being a channeler isn't precisely boring and stale, since channeling is a diverse system (who has what Talents and skills), but not every PC should necessarily be a channeler, considering that they are approximately 10% (I think that's the percentage) of the population at most.

This then leads to the other major point about why it should be a homebrew theme: a prevalence of ter'angreal that non-channelers can use. In essence, it would drive the theme closer to a kind of steampunk, I'd say, but the only thing that really makes sense to me is to up the role of ter'angreal in the setting, and that does include Power-disrupting devices, be they individual protection or area, as in Far Madding.

So yeah. I wouldn't say no to a MU*, but if it goes into a full-fledge skill/spell/etc. system, then there has to be some consideration given to those who would generally (but not necessarily always) get wrecked if it came to fighting people able to access the Source, and the only two solutions I can think of are either a) weak channelers; b) a means of combating channelers which typically will mean ter'angreal.

    • RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)

@Auspice Something I've found with respect to myself and multiplayer games:

Genre matters a lot. To use Overwatch as an example, I don't think I'm terrible at it, but I can easily lose track of my surroundings because I'm so focused on what I am doing versus my time or possible flanking, etc.

Starcraft II, on the other hand, I forget about base maintenance things a LOT. (I play co-op almost exclusively for SC2.) I've slowly started to get better about it, but I'll frequently catch myself with the expansion untended and needing more workers, upgrades that aren't in progress, and so on. Lately, though, I've actually started to catch myself more and more, which kind of makes me happy to be honest.

The point of this post is that I do think some ADD/ADHD behaviors can be, with time, mitigated. I make no claims that it's easy, but over the years I can certainly say that I've learned some control over some of mine. It's not always, and it's not completely, but I do see a difference. There is some anxiety over containing some of it, though, but one technique I've noticed works for me some of the time is (in MU*ing and other text-based conversation) is typing out what I would have said, and promptly hitting delete instead of enter.

      Food for thought.
