@Thenomain It's come up a couple times - I believe Sunny mentioned it originally. But regardless, my point isn't about length it's about the prevalent sentiment that it would inherently be boring and is "exactly the sort of scene that would mostly be glazed over in a book or a movie". (Which is not really my experience with books/movies either, but that's neither here nor there.)

man how many times did the Trio get chewed out in Harry Potter? πŸ˜„

Should I aid in this process in saying that way back on WORA everyone agreed that if someone actually succeeded in getting a thread in the hog pit locked down for being too hot that they would receive the honorary title of smol birb?

I remember that. You remember that, right, @Auspice ?

What about "smol to the power of birb"? Sooner or later we'll have a flock of smol birbs unless we get creative.

You're implying I'm not going to be first in line for a SKY PIRATE WIZARD MUSH.

I'm just picturing you CG'ing Rinel as a sky pirate cussing at law enforcement as you make a getaway from raiding a wizard's library for reagents or something:

Big Sekrits time... How many of you dive into typing a pose before you have any idea what your character is actually gonna do? Just type whatever pops in your head at the moment apropos to the situation, developing the action and text only as it's coming out of your fingers.

I don't edit or spellcheck either.

*this only pertains to my PCs, not ST'd shit.

I've found I don't have much problem with spellcheck, but holy cow do I fail on the proofreading point no matter what I'm doing. The worst thing I do is redundancy, which most commonly manifests when I'm adding terms like "also" and its synonymous phrases. "I've also been known to say that too." <- That kind of sentence is what I mean by redundant, there's an extra sentiment of inclusion. Happens so. damn. much, and I don't always catch it, but I see it after and I implode a little inside because I sent that emit/pose and can't change it after.

      Vanilla WoW/World of Warcraft Classic.

      Explain this to me.

Why is "The same WoW only with half the races, classes, and content" super popular?

Beer goggles are amplifying their nostalgia. I played from Alliance-push vanilla beta all the way through just before Siege of Orgrimmar launched. I don't miss a number of things about Classic, especially the bad talents they gave Warlocks in particular.

We still have tonic aisles around here, although they are fewer and further between than they were when I was young. When I was a kid I thought that tonic was storebrand soda cause that's what my dad bought and called it. And then soda was like, your Cokes and Pepsis.

And if I had known my husband called it 'pop' I never would've married him.

@Ominous said in What MU/RPG opinions have you changed or maintained?:

@dvoraen That is a bit surprising, especially considering how many MU*s are based on WoD, a tabletop game. Did you think they were more akin to LARPs? I could see that.

I think in my case it had to do with the MUD mindset of "I MUST ADVANCE MY CHARACTER" in a very quantifiable and obvious way, and that somehow translated into "My story needs to be better than X's." when I made the transition from MUDs to more heavily RP-based games. So yeah, a very selfish mindset, which is not how I look at D&D at all.

MUSH games are not very good about setting expectations of what kind of game they are, and players are not very good about respecting those boundaries even when they are established.

I concur, but write to add that most players are simply unwilling to learn the rules of a novel game, and would prefer to twist it to suit their attitudes rather than adapt.

If only I could keep this in the forefront of my head. I'm definitely guilty of this part. Someone recently compared it to tabletop gaming, and I'm like...... "Why did I never draw a parallel between these two?" as far as how I treat it. I definitely treat D&D differently than I have MU*ing, so that particular association was rather enlightening, in its way.

It's because of this that I'm waiting for someone to not-accidentally typo and say TSing, then fail to catch it before it's noticed. πŸ˜„

      +who
      +who
      +who
      +who

I am a chronic +finger and +where person, I've noticed. What baffles me even after 20 years is the fact that I still don't know why I do those so much. +who (and derivatives of it) are next in line for how much. Arx having a generally long +who list helps keep me from doing that, but I still do it on occasion, and I definitely go nuts with who/org at times.

Today's peeve, but one that happens on a semi-regular basis as a random encounter:

"Hey do you have a couple dollars I can have?"
      "I don't carry cash."
      commence 'bullshit' look

This is why I buy virtually everything with a form of currency that isn't cash. I'm not an ATM.

I don't know if I could itemize my regrets after this long, but I do know one thing that is both a regret and the opposite:

Making the transition from MUDs to MUX/MUSH/etc.

Why is that transition a regret? It's led to some 😐 places and upsets in my years (because I was waaaaaaay sensitive to feedback at the time this was going on), but the good has come in equal measure. If there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's RP MU*ing, because I don't think I would have had nearly as much progress as a would-be writer without it.

I am so glad I don't have a record of my first-ever char background, because I would be mortified for anyone to see what my then 16yo self wrote.
