Usually when two sides disagree on something like this they say “we’re going to have to agree to disagree”.

I’m going to invoke that right now so that we don’t cause anymore temporary insanity.

I disagree that we're going to have to agree to disagree.

I also disagree with taking efforts to not case any more insanity.

(Actually, I don't. Take the above with a grain of salt, if you will.)

@roz said in Spirit Lake - Discussion:

Yeah, I believe the concern is about number of players instead of number of alts.

I may be an odd duck, but this sort of reinforces what Tempest mentioned above.

For me, it'd be sort of like opening up a Vampire sphere, then shutting it down to new applications, and then opening up a Mortal sphere but not allowing new players to apply for any sort of PC. At least, that's what it kind of sounds like.

Like, can a new player wander in and make a non-magic PC, as Mietze suggests? If so, I'm down for that. But if I can't make one, color me confused.

I plan on most positions of power being npc's and have plans to handpick a few as people come in and things get going (as suggested earlier in the thread. I might be looking at @Ganymede. WANNA BE A PRINCE?!)

I'd actually rather go staff-side to operate a territory system, if you're willing to give it a whirl.

I may need a couple of months to develop the system. I had been working with Arkandel and SunnyJ on a system, but it's been a while. At the time, we were working on a Dark Ages setting.

I would need to get a hold of a copy of the new Changeling game to figure how to get them involved in such a system.

@Taika said in City of Shadows:

For alts, I'm currently leaning towards '1 per sphere'. So major template OR minor in a sphere, but not both. Have a vamp? Want to ghoul your mortal? Pick one.

Please only allow a maximum of 2 alts period, 1 in each sphere. Otherwise, your administrative load is going to cause any reasonable territory system to collapse.

      Please.

    • RE: RL Anger

In my line of work, I like to think of some honor among thieves.

I am enraged when a party, five days before final hearing in a divorce case, decide that they want to have an in-chambers interview of a couple's 9-year-old kid regarding who he wants to spend more time with.

That's fucking low. That's really fucking low. And as much as I should blame the party and not their attorney, attorneys have some obligation to guide their clients into making rational decisions.

I wasn't planning to spend my spare time this weekend reviewing everything for the umpteenth time, but I want to be ready to destroy this motherfucker in the worst way on the stand.

      I concur with Sunny.

I love post-apoc games. I would play the shit out of this one and Fallout: Montreal (presuming I could get myself to play a game set in Quebec).

I think there should have been a probationary period for such people.

Bullshit. This is always, always bullshit.

If you hire a creeper as a staffer, take responsibility. Fire them.

If you knowingly allow bad players onto your game, get rid of them. Ban them.

If you don't, admit your mistakes, and move on.

      It's really that simple.

None of this has any relation to the question originally posted. If you're tired of running a game, stop running it. Your decision to do so is no one else's business. You do no one favors by flogging the dead beast until it crumbles.

People bringing up the "hot coffee" lawsuit as an example of people being sue happy.

      Better examples:

"In this case we are called on to determine whether a cow is an uninsured motor vehicle under appellants' insurance policy. We hold that it is not."

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

"The City of San Antonio ("City") wants exotic dancers employed by Plaintiffs to wear larger pieces of fabric to cover more of the female breast. Thus, the age old question is before the Court, now with constitutional implications, is: Does size matter?"

      Enjoy!

Emit, dice rolls, character sheet, grid rooms. Thats all I need, and that should really be all anyone needs to fulfil a tabletop system that is cinematic like FS3 or WoD

For a World of Darkness game, that's fine if you want to run a tabletop-like experience, but my experience tells me that World of Darkness players want more than that and this desire has played out more times than I can count.

On the flip side to that, if we the general player base know about the complaint (and if it's complaint worthy, gossip has already started about the behaviour) and then see staff do... nothing about it. Why would we complain if it happens to us?

      Act I, Scene 1

Tinuviel: Did you talk to Faraday about Arkandel harassing me by pages?
      Ganymede: Yes.
Tinuviel: And what did she say?
Ganymede: She said that you should talk to her about it so she can get more details. Also, purple monkey dishwasher.
Tinuviel: But I don't want to talk to her.
Ganymede: Then why do you expect her to do anything for you?

      @derp

I've seen that research. The sample size is way too low to make any reasonable conclusions.

If avoiding certain foods make you feel better, though, I don't see the harm in supporting that choice. Like, I'm not a big fan of soda any more, so I generally don't drink it. And adopting a gluten-free diet will probably help a lot of people kick their high-carb-eating ways in favor of less-processed, fresher food, which will likely cause some weight loss.

What gets my goat is when people try to foist a lifestyle on me that, in their opinion, is "healthier" and "better." Like, get out of my fucking face with that shit, I like soy sauce.

I never tried to wrongfun? Anyone?

Yes, you did. You did it when you said the following:

Wod is not a relationship simulator, Monster Hearts, or anything like that. Is a dark gritty environ filled with Bad Things and bad people and bad shit is supposed to happen to and around your character

If this is what you want out of the World of Darkness, that's fine. That's your expectation. This may differ from others' expectations, including my own. And that's also fine.

Wrongfunning is, at its most basic, stating: (1) what a certain game, theme, or system is and is not; and (2) using that statement-by-fiat to announce what RP is appropriate or inappropriate.

I find absolutely nothing wrong with playing at relationships in the World of Darkness. Or playing Monster Hearts, or whatever.

I also liked The Last Jedi.

The whole "THIS IS WOD" spiel played itself out a decade and a half ago.

Like, sorry for double post, but to clarify, my point was more that manic pixie dreamgirl is one of those tropes that is definitely popularized based on its relevance to MEN, and I don't doubt that dudes playing lesbians often think they are being "chic" about this, but I've seen female players fall into the same trap.

My transgender friend fell into the same trap, and it was pretty fucking annoying. Like, yeah, I accept that you are a woman, but grown-ass women don't traipse about yammering about dress cuts and purses in polite company.

      I mean, often.

      Shit.

      I held this role once.

I was given the same authority as the two head staffers, and we formed a triumvirate.

I think it is an okay idea, but it has to have teeth. Giving the ombudsman the same power as one of the head staff? That might do the trick.

But the head staff did trust me implicitly, and I served as a resolver of issues between them too.

I am not sure why it makes me so happy to see lawyers talking lawyer things and helping each other like this, but it does. Warm fuzzies and everything.

Hell, I'll help opposing counsel when it comes to figuring out how to get around procedural problems that affect us both.

One thing you learn in the law fast, if you're good at it: you can't know everything. Be humble, be nice, play well with others, and you'll get a good, steady reputation as being trustworthy and dependable. That will take you much farther than being a dickbag.
