I mean, I'd be out just because of the algebra aspect.

I'd be out over the algebra, too.

Granted, GMs who use that "Escape Room" style of roleplay (The key in a book in the library but unless I properly understand some nuanced riddle the GM thinks is so fucking obvious the GM will literally let me spend 45 minutes guessing which book it's in) is bad enough, but the moment you add linear algebra to it? NOOOPENOPENOPE.

RPGs should be about "Texas Whoopass" not "Texas Instruments".

@Arkandel Uff. I dunno. D&D culture is kinda split down the middle between people who like RP and people who want hack-n-slash. In fact, Gygax original gangsta D&D was just dungeon crawls with very little RP. So...you may just be playing with a guy who interprets D&D as monster fights with riddles.

Frankly? Its hard to change someone's GM style, so the best you can do is mention that you really love the RP aspect of D&D and try to encourage it. But... wtflinearalgebra???

We see in MU* a lot the GM/ST/DM often interprets problem solving by generating a scenario with ONE SUCCESSFUL SOLUTION, and then the whole night of gaming is either trying to guess what their pass/fail solution is. This (IMO) is weaksauce GMing but also something that can be hard to break a GM of, too.

tl;dr "Gaming is a lot like dating. Best you can do is try to encourage what you want. If you cant find what you want, it's better to move on."

@Rinel Check out this article. Here.

If this is Wi-Fi it could be attributed to channel congestion, but may also be attributed to windows processes. That link may help diagnose or rule out your router. There is a good phone app (WiFiAnalyzer) for Wi-Fi Analytics that will help you diagnose channel congestion, as well.

Wi-Fi operates similar to radio in the sense that the more devices using the same channel in a frequency range can cause a sort of "static" that will interrupt transmission between your wireless router and devices.

One fast way to diagnose this is to Cat-6 hardline into your router and run similar ping tests. If they do not persist over Ethernet, then the likelihood that it's channel congestion is high. If it STILL persists over Ethernet, then you can rule out Wi-Fi and focus on Windows processes or other possibilities.

Also, log into your router and enable logging if it isnt currently enabled. Make sure the logs catch as much as possible because there is a chance that you may be getting hit with regular packets scanning your IP range for vulnerabilities.

And I ain't judging, either. This is a personal decision. BobG just raised a philosophical point I think is sound and the punk rock in me wanted to give a nod of solidarity.

While I am not a fan of Koch and look forward to a future without him personally affecting politics, BobG has a pretty solid Vulcan/Buddhist point, here. If you dance on the grave of "bad men", you are still a grave-dancer.

Again, not a fan of Koch at all, but philosophically who is worse? The man with the money or the corrupted politicians who got quid-pro-quo with him?

    • RE: Cyberrun

      @Misadventure said in Cyberrun:

@Ghost Misleading? Did you not watch Blade Runner? They are emotionally children. The memories are "cushions", the bodies artificial. They have restraint, true, but little maturity at all. The actress was 22? The players people are concerned about are very likely as old or older, so maybe not the best measurement?

That's (that they were emotionally children) up to interpretation. For starters, they didn't qualify as a human, nor did they qualify as children in the same sense as a born human from gestation to MaidenMotherCrone stage. Blade Runner wasn't about the mistreatment of children; it was about the creation of artificial beings who longed to be free. Their models were four years old, but they were not modeled (nor did they behave) as four year old children. They were not depicted as, played by, or designed to be sexualized children.

This is entirely a different subject and non-concept to human adults roleplaying as children for TS roleplay.

Age is a number. Yes. Maturity is subjective. Yes. There are, in existence, 16 year olds with more responsibility and rational thinking than their own parents.

I think a good question to ask here is: "Why is it so important to play a legal minor on a sex-based RP game, and not an immature legal adult; perhaps even a teen 18-19?"

I'll take the bold step here (trigger warning) and say that its important to remember that the so-called adrenaline kick from the crime of paedophilia has nothing to do with driving across the state line of "18" to thumb your nose at societal laws regarding age. No. It's about the focusing of sexual energy towards a figure perceived to be a child or child-like. It's ultimately about the sexualizing and violation of perceived innocence while being well aware that it is wrong.

So, even if a character is an 85 year old man in the shell of a 12 year old body, a sexual scene involving this configuration is providing an outlet for paedophilia on the part of the 85/12 year old, and roleplaying of a sex crime on the part of that character getting hot on the human-appearing shell of a 12 year old.

It's paedophilia. Role-playing this online and enjoying it doesn't not make one a paedophile just because they (allegedly) havent done it in real life. Paedophilia doesn't make exceptions between "fantasizing of" or "physically partaking in".

I think you're obscuring the overall point, but I think you're definitely driving in a specific direction. What exactly are you trying to play Devil's Advocate towards, here? That there is bias in play and that it's no big deal that adults would simulate sexualized children because there is a pre-existing precedent in film?

I'm currently discussing whether or not it's okay for people to roleplay fucking 12 year old appearing characters on online RPG spaces. Can someone explain to me A) why this is even being debated and B) help me justify the 5-10 minutes it took me to write this?

And why doesn't Pris skeeve people? She's a 4 year old in an adult body, slated to be a sex worker.

      Misleading.

Pris was a artificial being with an adult personality and an adult appearance that was designed to be a pleasure model that came off of the assembly line four years ago.

The human growth and development process and concept of having to evolve from child to adult never applied to Pris.

When Blade Runner released, Daryl Hannah was 22.

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

Marvel/Disney could very easily forget Spider-Man and focus on other teen heroes they own. @TheOnceler is right. I don't see them spending millions on one character when they just gained access to hundreds they didn't have before.

      Harley - Iron Lad
      Hawkeyes Daughter - Hawkeye
      Cassie Lang - Stature
      Sufi
      Kamala
      TeenGroot
SkrullKid from Captain Marvel - Hulkling
Wiccan and Speed - Easily done.

In fact, theyve already laid a lot of that groundwork

      Boom. Young Avengers.

I also don't see Sony parting with millions in revenue from a functional movie empire when it's now popular again.

I think the big question is: Is Tom Holland contracted through Marvel/Disney or Sony? I have a feeling Holland was getting his paycheck from Sony, which means HollandParker is still possible.

Sony could very easily continue Spider-Verse, make Gwen or Milea live action, and put HardyVenom against Holland and they'll be fine. Marvel punched up their product for them.

    • RE: Cyberrun

Not to dig too deeply into this, but I always find it weird that shaming becomes a topic when people mention discomfort with adults role-playing minors in sexual situations. So I'll say this:

      1. Yes, teens hook up. Regardless of teen sexuality it is still both illegal and unethical for adults to retroactively cross that 18 line, so the desire to RP as or with a PC who is a minor in a sexual situation raises eyebrows. Always. That cross to bear is on the shoulders of the pro-minor TS RP; not the person with the raised eyebrow.

      2. The game suggests a 12 year old body in a sexual situation. It's within the realm of possibility that we arent talking just about teens, but about potential simulated sex with what appears to be a pre-teen (or, for perspective, a 5th grader at an elementary school). It doesn't matter if the "soul" in the 12 year old appearing shell is that of a 45 year old man because the willingness to engage in fuckery with the imagery of a child is, IMO, fucked up.

      3. The unspoken rule of life is "teens bang teens, adults bang adults". The closer you hold to this statement the less controversial said banging will be.
