@caryatid Personally, I don't trust people who don't have reasons to cry during the holidays.

RE: How are you coping with COVID (and other 2020 fun)?
Reaction videos have been helping me a lot. Watching millennials watch the movies of my childhood almost feels like going to the movies with someone.

I was about to say something about how I knew people from other countries could have different kinds of faces but it never occurred to me that a cat might until now because that is a very un-American kitty face; but then you posted this image and just really sir, how dare youI die of envy. You've killed me. One day you will answer to your maker for this sin of sharing pictures of the world's cutest cat.

If I could just stop being ill.
If it helps, I know how you feel. I'm not ill myself, but I've been constantly injuring and reinjuring myself at work due to management understaffing us, to the point I had to cut my hours down to 32 per week. I've no idea how I'll live on 80% of my current paycheck but I can't keep living in pain, either.

What level of badness means that it's OK to be happy he's dead in-thread?
The line is not determined by the badness of the deceased. It's determined by relative ideas of conceptual badness. Cheerleading for government austerity measures that have led to demonstrable suffering for millions of Americans, advocating for meaningless wars that have killed millions of Americans and less militarily advanced foreigners alike, reading off obituaries of gay people who died of AIDS on the air for the purpose of mocking the dead, spitting invective all over the airwaves about how women are sluts and succubi out to steal honest men's semen and money: sure, those things are bad, but are they really as bad as being glad that the person who made a career of doing those things can no longer do those things? So much for the tolerant left, amirite?

I'm very, very tired of even the most basic of things not being disability accessible.
uuuuuuuuuugh I feel that. When my sister's husband got confined to a wheelchair, it was a very eye-opening experience for me. Disney World, the very definition of "not a basic necessity," was the only part of his life that was designed with his accessibility in mind.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@ninjakitten @cobalt Though I don't like hugs, I do appreciate the spirit in which they were offered and the fact that you offered instead of imposing. Thank you both for being so considerate on both fronts. And I'm better now, I got through it. Cobalt, super sorry about what happened to your finger. You never notice how much you use your digits until it hurts to do so.

ETA: Really, do not click the above link if you are squeamish. The above picture, imo, is worse than the one previously posted. Even if it feels much better, it looks p bad. For real, the nail is gone. And it's a little bloody.
To each their own. It's just skin where you don't expect to see skin, is all. I'm glad you shared the image. It's interesting on a morbid level, and it's good to see you with the visible signs of infection gone.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I have received a bill for some X-rays I got as part of a work comp claim. It being a work comp claim, this bill is not my responsibility, which the office staff at the radiology department should know because I told them so when I was there. The bill I've received has a warning that if I don't pay it immediately, they'll turn it over to a collection agency and fuck with my credit. It's for thirty-eight dollars. They're threatening me over the cost of five value meal combos at McDonald's, which cost is not for me to pay because, not to belabor the point, it's a comp claim and my employer is responsible for the injury I suffered which led to me seeking treatment in the first place.
Incompetent bandits.

I will just call everything you painstakingly labor to give me 'opinion'
I think America's inability to understand the difference between fact and fiction is the surest sign the nation cannot recover from the death spiral it's in.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@wizz My concern is, it might not matter. America is sprinting toward the apocalyptic finish line of unfettered capitalism and is poised to take the entire planet with us when we cross over it.

RE: Good TV
If you want it to be a strong real world parallel, then black American is hardmode but anywhere Asia would hardly raise an eyebrow.
It's not that I want a real world parallel. It's that if the movie is going raise questions, it should be prepared to answer them, and suddenly Tony's story about how he built a suit that is also a fighter jet is less interesting to me than Howard's story about how he built an industrial empire so powerful it left his kid unanswerable to United States government.

So of course he gets up at 4:30 and blasts music and wakes the dogs up early so they can rampage through the house, turns the bedroom light on so that I may wake up with him... and all around is a terror. Like he's TRYING to wake the baby up too.
I mean, what would I do with an extra hour of sleep anyway?
I used to wonder if men know how much they treat women like we're not people, just props and servants in their lives. Eventually, I stopped wondering that and started wondering instead how many of them would, if you told them, just prove the point by centering themselves in the discussion and angrily insisting we reaffirm how great and amazing they are.

Toxic fan-dom hurts, man.
YES. She-Ra is the only fandom I've ever been part of that isn't dominated by people who seem to think the only way to enjoy a thing is to bitterly hate it and tear it down at every opportunity to prove you're smarter than it is. Hell, not only is it not dominated by those people, I've never come across one. It's some kind of magic.
