@carma Jesus Christ, men tire me out. I'm fighting so hard not to go to the custard place for a giant brownie concrete which I will guzzle on the way home before going to bed at 4:30pm, and I don't even work for Actiblizzion.

RE: Character likeness
Number four. I've been having some weird ethical concerns about taking a real person's face to use as my character's lately, and hunting down an artist I can afford to pay for an image isn't likely either, so that leaves nice, cheap words.

Someone told me once that a black girl couldn't be a fairy because there's no fairies in Africa (not a racist person, just a stickler for historical plausibility)
It seems to me a stickler for historical plausibility would say no one could be a fairy because there's no fairies anywhere.

No one is going to want to RP out the boring, every day bits unless there's a point.
I dunno. For something no one wants to RP, I'm surprised how many scenes seem to be strangers making awkward chit-chat in line at the coffee shop or whatever.

I feel like I should make fun of this but I'm utterly stunned

The thing I've noticed playing AresMUSH games is that a lot of people still choose to use their old-school MU* client even when the option to play exclusively using the website exists. I wonder what possible reasons there are for this.
The web client is too likely to lose connection and/or stop sending me notifications.

It wasn't even very good gaslighting. He can surely come up with better lies than that.
The lies aren't for us. They're not really even for his base. They're for himself, so they don't need to be good.

RE: Thundergulch
@de-villefort Okay, thanks. That was how I took it, sort of like how I took it back when I learned that what we currently think of as cowboys were mostly not white people.

RE: FFG L5R
Yeah, but just because anyone can enter a talking scene scene, doesn't mean they should actually talk. If you have an audience with the Emerald Champion, you want the good with words guy to go be good with words.
The impression I got is, it was the kind of game where your ability to roleplay the intricacies of the setting supersede your character's stats. Unless this hypothetical L&L5R game makes it a rule that you have to roll dice to be polite and personable, I don't see a way around that.

RE: Critters!
I have never seen a cat curl the tip of its tail so tightly. That is delightful.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@carma said in Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff:
One time, after my character was severely injured and had already received treatment for the injury, I roleplayed my character recovering, doing things delicately, and generally acknowledging that the wound was slowing down my character.
There's this action movie I watched with my mom once. I couldn't for my life tell you which one it is or who's in it, but at some point early on the protagonist gets shot in the right arm, and in a later scene there's a bit where the character is exiting a car and closing the door behind him. The movie draws no attention to it, but he closes the door kind of awkwardly with his left arm because his right arm is still injured. Mom loved that, so I did too.
So that's why I love the scene you're talking about.

@jennkryst What right does a deliberately jingoistic tune played on a bagpipe have to thrill me as much as it did?

I would probably report that harassment to his boss, but I'm a no-nonsense kind of person.
I would almost be willing to call the police about this, no matter what my principles about the police are. Let's not forget Belly Mujinga, who got spat and coughed on by someone claiming to have COVID-19 and died of it a week ago.

All this talk about how relationships with other hobbyists should be transactional feels really weird to me.
