Helix has graciously fixed the code issue that wasn't allowing folks to finalize their sheets/buy new gifts. Everything is up and running smoothly and there's RP to be had in Lyonesse, specifically around the Chromatic Order.

MU thing I love: constructing elaborate IC plans.

I love PLANS. Each step, each little nuance that needs to be addressed to make something cohesive. Finding the people that fit in to each role, finding the information that supports each action of each person. And then at the end? Just letting it all go to the roll of the dice and seeing if you were a good planner The perfect balance of control freak and (mostly) random chance.

When you get closure for your character, with another character, and it's a perfect moment in time, and you wouldn't change a thing about the scene, AND it drives further character development in a huge way for your PC.

Not directly MUSHing related so I stuck it in Tastes Less Game'y, but it could have application in MUSHing too (though book writing and MUSHing are different in so many ways). I'm interested in writing resources you all have found valuable, if you'd care to share them.

I've been watching Brandon Sanderson's BYU 2020 lecture series on Sci-fi and Fantasy writing, and I've found it tremendously helpful for improving my writing on a book series I've been working on of late. He covers areas like world building, plot and character, among other things.

Another thing I've found helpful/inspiring are these "mood" playlists on YouTube. Music For Writing, a playlist for girls who should have been written by jane austen, Dark Academia Classical Music, you're studying in a haunted library with ghosts, among others.

I'm not sure the quiet is solely an outcome of the split in communities and the decrease of people active here. I think that contributes to it, but there have been a number of times where I've had something I'd love to post about but actively refrained because of the anxiety of people "tracking me down". I've been happily playing somewhere for over a year now and it's been the best experience I've ever had MUing, with the most supportive people I've ever met. And the thought of bringing the kind of vitriol people have laid at my feet to their doorstep definitely holds me back a lot of the time. Because while I know I likely won't have vitriolic responses to my posts, I also know that the forum is visible to all eyes and people will do what people will do outside of it. It's a deterrent that feels pretty unsolvable, save for the most generalized of posts.

@rightmeow you have a right to your opinion and your experience and no one should ever tell you not to feel how you're feeling. I hope that, even if this site takes a different direction for those who remain, your heart can find healing in knowing you have two options to speak to the people you enjoyed speaking to and hopefully don't have to sacrifice any of the communication you enjoyed, and that this site specifically (it's the only one I can speak to) will welcome your kindness. I wish brighter days for you ahead. MSB will be better for it.

Some people are just determined to hate others, I've noticed. There's some real, imagined or unintentional slight, IC or OOC, and then it becomes their goal to /destroy/ you. There's not much you can do about it save try to ignore it.

Real World Peeve: knowing a bunch of your online friends are going through really fucking tough times right now with their real lives (jobs, mental health, physical health) and there's not a thing you can do except offer a shoulder/ear. It's not enough and I hate that it's not enough and I wish I could do more for these awesome people.

It's become a bit of a passion project of mine to resurrect Road to Amber MUSH, for the joy of RPing in Zelazny's world. I'd love for folks to come back and inhabit their characters once more, and join me in the endeavor.
