I'm not sure the quiet is solely an outcome of the split in communities and the decrease of people active here. I think that contributes to it, but there have been a number of times where I've had something I'd love to post about but actively refrained because of the anxiety of people "tracking me down". I've been happily playing somewhere for over a year now and it's been the best experience I've ever had MUing, with the most supportive people I've ever met. And the thought of bringing the kind of vitriol people have laid at my feet to their doorstep definitely holds me back a lot of the time. Because while I know I likely won't have vitriolic responses to my posts, I also know that the forum is visible to all eyes and people will do what people will do outside of it. It's a deterrent that feels pretty unsolvable, save for the most generalized of posts.

Unfortunately, I'm old. Life interferes.
I feel this so much. I'm lucky if I get out a couple of poses a night, these days.

RE: Nightlife RPG vs CoD
@Devrex could just be my newness to TTRPG but I find rolling a new character much harder there than chargen on a MUSH. Most MU chargens handhold the whole way through and you have MU staff to help you out if you're stuck. Whereas with TTRPG (at least the one I'm doing), you have to constantly refer to the rules book and there's So Much Math. Pretty much nothing is automated. You have your DM to help you out, true, but I don't find it nearly as easy.
That said, TTRPG feels 'easier'. I'm not sure if I can quantify that yet. But the actual RP part of it feels like less effort to me, somehow.

You all were right, it was amazing and I had a blast! Looking forward to the next session.

Pathfinder for Savage Worlds
Got invited to my very first TTRPG, really excited. Really nervous, too. As the title says, it's Pathfinder for Savage Worlds. Looking for folks who have experience. What are the things you wish you'd known or think a new player should know, to be prepared going into it? Or for TT in general, really. Thanks in advance!

RE: RL Sads
I remember her as a great driver of RP within the Dunlin family. Fuck cancer. I'm sorry for the loss.

RL Thrift
I don't know if anyone else is as concerned about watching their budget these days, but I figured there might be one or two of us out there in this economy, struggling a bit. I figured it could be good to have a thread that watched out for good deals/savings, anything to lighten the economic burden a bit.
Hopefully it's welcome!
DoorDash has a deal going on for anyone with Prime membership (in Canada, at least, I'm not too sure for anywhere else) where you can get an entire year of DoorDash DashPass (free delivery) for free. https://fb.watch/l5MEAP7BDx/

RE: Random As...
Sounds like this could be a "RP vs. RL: how to balance" thread. Definitely a valid topic for a lot of us, I think.

RE: Ruiz
@reimesu I don't think we're looking at any one person. Just the content. It's not a defense of Cobalt, per se (I have nothing against Cobalt, afaik I don't know them that well?), just a defense of the ideal in general.

RE: Ruiz
But let's be fair, just that pre-banning of @Ganymede for...what? is enough to make me wonder what other bad decisions are being made. And Macha's logs showed that a) she was being slut-shamed and b) it was a consensual log that she was being shamed for and is still being shamed for.
Pretty sure that the bad decisions aren't the ones being made here.
See, the above is good. It's proof you can point to and go, I believe this supports my conjecture that xyz. But I'm agreeing with @hobos that coming in saying 'I think X is plausible because Y, but I'm not offering any tangible proof of Y' is exactly the thing that this board used to do that was damaging. And that did seem like what @Derp was doing. It was a bit disheartening to see.
Eta: do I think that makes it okay for people to come and do the equivalent of 'nyah nyah, told ya so!'? No. But that's just distraction from the heart of the matter.

RE: The Pack Discussion
@Macha as someone who has been dragged through the mud by much of the same crew, I'll offer some unsolicited advice which you can choose to ignore or not, but it's meant well.
Ignore them. Let it go, as hard as that is. These people are not your people. It may feel like you need to convince them; you don't. It may also feel like the end of your world/MUing experience; it's not.
Eventually, these things have a way of coming to light. It happened for me. And when it does happen, they won't say anything about it because it's embarrassing to admit they've been the abuser/enabler all along.
And that sucks in the moment, but it gets better faster when you just move past it and let it die.

RE: RIP Melkir
I've just heard word from Melkir's wife that his ashes will be on board the Enterprise flight, alongside luminaries like Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley. He would have loved nothing more.

I know he ran Shadowrun Seattle, if anyone ever played there.

RIP Melkir
I feel like shouting in the dark right now.
A long time member, @Melkir of the MU community passed away this morning of a heart attack, after a very long struggle with health issues. I met him on Arx, and had the joy of playing Monique alongside his Etienne. He also played Theodoric there. He was one of the most amazing people I've ever met in this hobby, and he made everything bearable. I know my world isn't going to be the same without him in it. Words don't do it justice.

RE: 2022: A New Year, New Dead Celebrities
@Macha Won't lie, this hit me really hard. I was hoping he would overcome those demons. Their parents did a number on all the Carter kids.

As a female player, I highly recommend everyone 'covertly' play a female character at least once. The experience is wild. And not in a good way.
Except for me, of course, but I get wicked action as a dude.
Well sure, if you're using John Cena as a PB. Who wouldn't?

RE: The Crafting Thread
@Macha if you get really stuck you can usually find a youtube walk through of someone putting one together. The instructions really are that terrible.
-
RE: The Crafting Thread
@Macha you can get them on Amazon by searching DIY miniature house kit.
Edit to add: the ones with more flowers/floral stuff are the WORST. I recommend avoiding them to start.
