That's actually incorrect. Population growth is actually bad for a capitalist economy, especially if technology is not improving (it's not).

I disagree. Overpopulation is bad for a capitalist economy. Population growth itself is necessary for a capitalist economy. If there were fewer people to do the slaving and consuming, profits would be smaller. So long as the birth rate doesn't exceed the replacement level by more than a certain percentage, population growth is extremely beneficial.

People with children 'grow' the economy (or at least the capitalist economy) better than those who don't, because they're supplying the future cheap labor. That's why it's in the government's best interest to provide them with assistance, so their children can grow up to be exploited by the 'machine'. Without future workers, capitalism would suffer. Therefore those who make (and benefit from) the rules, will inevitably favor that which keeps them making profit.

I'm not saying this is right, or fair. It is what it is, though.

    • RE: Getting Involved (and getting other people involved)

If people are leery, they could always talk to you about what to expect beforehand. Also, if you're in something and you're finding it's not your cup of tea? Reserve the right to walk away, no harm, no foul. You could make that a caveat before the scene starts.

As for generating RP, it's not at all hard to do. Start a playgroup, but have patience. This is what I see most often, when I hear the 'but there's no RP/I can't get involved' line. People without the patience to build something substantial. ie. It took me awhile to get the ARU/Fire Station playgroups up and active on TR.

Also, accept that there's going to be people/groups who don't want to play with you, for whatever reason. I have struggled with this myself. Often times people see one playgroup and think 'Oh, I want to be part of that! That looks awesome!' but the people in that playgroup, again, for whatever reason, don't want to play with that person. Move on. Don't destroy yourself trying to get 'in'. Most times (not always, but often) you'll just end up bitter and drama-ful. Find something else. There's almost always a something else, if you 'lower your standards' (not sure if that's the right phrasing but it's as close as I can come to what I mean).

@Ganymede I feel like there is too much reliance on the court system for what has become a more complex issue, what with the number of children born outside of marriage these days, not to mention their increasing care by third parties. I imagine that these blurred boundaries make it much harder for lawyers to do their job.

@Luna The law is one thing, and reality is another. I get this. I've been there with the ex and the kidlet. I'm sorry you have to be in this situation. You don't deserve it.

@Sammi You're assuming that these are people who don't know the state of my mental health condition.

Thank you for your brilliant observation and critique about how to fix my mental issues, and for your dismissive, superior attitude.

The converse: if you don't believe that my advice will help fix your issues, then please avoid telling me as I'm conditioned to suggest solutions when people bring problems.

Not accusing you of foisting your problems on others, but I work in a field where people do this. And then, they don't listen to me or others when we're really trying to help them.

I imagine you don't use a dismissive, superior attitude when you do it, in the form of 'oh just do X, as it will solve all your problems?' If you do, then the peeve still stands. People who use the 'oh hey, have you tried X?' or 'what do you think about trying X?' approach don't raise the same hackles. (p.s. X doesn't work. Bad stuff. Probably what caused my anxiety in the first place... damn younger, wilder years)

@VulgarKitten Just breathe! I don't know what your deal is. God. All you have to do is get over it. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

Right??? Why didn't I think of that? It's like my brain just shuts down or something...

Anxiety and panic attacks. I'm not sure 'peeve' is a strong enough word. Maybe the peeve is when people say 'oh just do X (think positively, ignore it, meditate, exercise, take meds, etc)' to get over it. OMG I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT in the 3 years I've been dealing with it! Thank you for your brilliant observation and critique about how to fix my mental issues, and for your dismissive, superior attitude.

Seems like I've been there already, awhile back, but got stuck in CG. Bet you can guess the name!

I would help in any way, except complex coding. Basic I can do, but the major stuff is beyond my ken.

    • RE: Amber Game

@Autumn brings up very good points. The thing is, for people who want the Princes and Princesses? There's already a game for that. Go check out RtA. There's nothing wrong with creating a new scenario for those who are interested in that scenario. Why is this even a debate, instead of people tossing out what they do want to see, within a specific context? Tell me the novel things you want, as opposed to the things you could have that are already out there.

I'd be up for this, save that I have very little code knowledge. I did try to start a game like this not so long ago, Legends of Amber, where the Princes were long gone, and it was set in the Courts of Chaos. I could do the desc'ing etc, just not the code necessary, and the coder I had was just doing it on his free time, which he didn't have a lot of (totally understandable), so it never got off the ground. I think I still have the site address etc.

@BetterJudgment Agreed. I started there back in 1999 and there were much better rules in place then. You had the occasional prancing elf, but it was overall a decent tribute to Tolkien. And I am super picky about my Tolkien, too, @Arkandel. Should try and revive Elendor to be a purists' dream.
