@Darren Yeah. Just think, if they'd up and die already, it'd do wonders for your commute.

...to be clear, that was sarcasm, you human excrement; you're the sort of person who makes me wish God was real just so there would be a lake of fire waiting for you.

Save it for someone who doesn't volunteer at the soup kitchen twice a week and the homeless shelter every other Sunday. I have nothing against homeless people, only panhandlers many of which are probably not even homeless. Also, you do not get to have an opinion about how I do/do not spend my own money.

I don't have an opinion on how you spend your money. But having the opinion that people should stop existing for your convenience (or just crawl into some dark cave so you don't have to acknowledge them until you feel like it) makes you, objectively, human garbage.

"So this item is on clearance, but last time I was in it was another 25% off."

Oh, yeah, we were running a promotion.

      "Can you apply it anyway?"

...no. It was down more then. It isn't now. That's what a sale is.

"Then can I apply this discount off full-price merchandise?"

...no. Because this is not full-price.

"Do you have any other coupons? Can I get some socks for free? Look, there's sort of a mark on the leather, can you discount it for that?"

Lady, buy the fucking thing or don't, stop acting like a broke-ass motherfucker while you're carrying around Louis Vutton.

I find this extra funny because that's canonically p much Inigo's plan to find him.

(Like, literally walking around Europe asking if anyone knows any six-fingered noblemen.)

      1. There's no point in adhering slavishly to canon if you're RPing. The whole point is doing something other than the source material.

      2. At the same time, if your character is not recognizable as their canonical version, you should probably just make an OC.

      3. At the same time, Liv is awesome.

      4. If we're talking about a comic book RP, you're probably not doing any worse by the character than at least one actual professional author who was paid actual money to write them under the actual imprint. If you do too bad a job, you can always blame skrulls/LMDs/eight-dimensional imps.

      @Tinuviel And springboarding off that...

"This behavior is disruptive and bad for everyone's collective good time" is a legit reason for a banning, whether or not the behavior technically falls in violation of subsection 2.a of article C of the game's posted code of conduct.

We are here to have a good time. We do not need to treat adjudication as if it were a criminal conviction.

@Ganymede said in Punishments in MU*:

That is a reasonable way to look at it, but it's not one that I share. If someone suffers public shame as a result of being banned, so be it; however, I know a handful of people who have been banned which I do not considered to be either shamed or besmirched by the act. Sometimes, a ban comes down because a player simply cannot work with staff for one reason or another.

I find this curious. If a player simply cannot work with staff, why are they banned? Have they actually done something wrong? If not, a ban seems silly and excessive. If so - well, then that's the shameful thing they've done, and why banning them is still textbook public shaming.

Unless of course there's some sort of example of a situation in which someone is banned, having done something legitimately deserving of a ban, but no one thinks any less of them as a player/staffer as a result. But I do not think this is possible, as a banning smacks very much of 'Leave and never come back!' as opposed to 'Sorry it didn't work out, maybe one day!'

You'll never be able to keep people from interpreting it how they will, but I think people would overall be happier if they didn't take "you're no longer welcome in my pretendy sandbox" as a condemnation of their fundamental worth as a person.

There's a big internet out there. Not every part of it is a good fit for everyone.

Mob mentality whitelist/blacklisting is probably not a good thing for a hobby wherein there is enough drama to keep a forum running 24/7.

That is every hobby. Model train enthusiasts... man, you don't even know.

@surreality Yeah, I don't disagree with anything above.

One or more "seriously, knock it off" conversations are perfectly reasonable with people who are generally good actors but are stepping out of line, absolutely. (I also don't, necessarily, share some other posters' reservations about sharing them publicly, or at least being forthright about them. "X behavior is not acceptable, and Y member has been made aware of it" is generally a good look for an admin, in my experience.)

I also think short-term bans can be useful, both for "we are serious about this" and "take a bit of time off to get your head straight" value.

    • RE: Punishments in MU*

Ultimately, in an online space, "ban" is the only actual power the admins have--or, well, can ethically employ. Temporarily or permanently removing a member's ability to participate.

Things like verbal warnings have exactly as much weight as the recipient chooses to give them. "Rehabilitation" even more so.

      A MU* isn't a messenging service.

If the admins want to see what's going on in the 'world' they adjucate, I don't care either way.
