I would vote for one of the Venusian cities, but Mars is also cool. Temp rooms can always be used for 'out of town' stuff. My big thing, as always, is space minigame whee.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
@wizz said in Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu:
You can take mutations as a Solar, but you don't get them in a neat package deal like Deadly Beastman and the other Lunar charms that build on it, so you have to pay full costs for each of what are essentially permanent disfigurements that mark you as a freakish Wyld-twisted outcast, which you would need to constantly pay motes towards disguising.
Bold of you to assume that the 10-13ft tall HUGE Solar even cares about disguise charms. And even if the perma-mutated beastman solar cared about being disguised (pass it off as a godblooded mutation, or a sign of high-dragonblooded heritage?) PERFECT DISGUISE CHARMS ARE PERFECT. And unlike Lunars, they can break the commitment and 'power up' with having more motes to spend, because of course they'll stunt it back, or get it through charm drip, or or or...
Having played on the last, uh... maths five or six incarnations (HAH) of Exalted MUs, I speak from experience of what DOES happen there, not just theorycrafting what the lore says ought to.
Like, Solars are still pretty OP, I don't think anybody could really dispute that, but at least they seem to be giving the other Exalts really unique niches that Solars can't just stomp all over this time around.
This is a valid point. Out of those last five or six versions, only the most recent was 3e. And it closed shortly after Dragonblooded Kickstarter manuscript came out - not even the final copy. So NEW THINGS may mean new player approaches. There's also the folks who WILL play other things for the niche RP aspects. But it still ends up being like 20-30 Solars, 15 Infernals, 10 Abyssals, 15 Lunars, 6 Alchemicals, 4 Sidereals, 2 Dragonblooded, 1-3 Raksha, and maybe some god/fae/ghost blooded, if folks are feeling FANCY. Those aren't the ACTIVE numbers. Those are the TOTAL numbers. Except, as mentioned, that last go-round, where it was 90% Solars because
But these are ALSO the sorts of wierdos who go 'WELL, an 18 year old on Earth is alive for so many days, and Creation has fifteen 28-day months, which means 420 days (plus 5 for calibration) a year...' to run the numbers and figure out just how young they can get away with making their character and still argue 'but but but... LEGAL ON EARTH!!!'
No, fucker, your 16 year old character cannot fake their way past the +policy age restriction.
...
I, uh... lost my train of thought somewhere. RIGHT, the typical Exalted MUer does not follow the same logic as the Soapbox tends to. So gotta plan for it.

Hm. Soooooo, you've basically invented a MUD inside a MUSH? If you could get a MOO in there, it would be like a text turducken.
Gotta include Mux if we want to go full inception. Also, obligatory mention of putting it IN SPAAAAAAAAACE!

RE: World of Darkness -- Alternative Settings
Generic city by night sounds amazing. Add generic suburbia around it, and the follow it up with generic mad max/black forest/wilderness hellscape.

@greenflashlight Uh... tall just helps to keep their cult focused on them. Worship+followers to do all that stuff for you.
Also really hope you critique every game over needing to track their characters' caloric intake to make sure they maintain their stats.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
This should probably go elsewhere, and I'm too lazy to find where and/or dig up the last time I threw this discussion point down. Re: various people about Star Wars.
Yes, you CAN have a Star Wars game divorced from the SWAG of equipment and such.
But.
It needs to be using a system that is similarly divorced from equipment SWAG. SAGA edition has all of that typical d20 minutia, and all of the pros and cons of it. One of those cons is being equipment heavy. FFG has entire career paths that are centered around modifying, enhancing, and doing various neato things with equipment.
By saying you are using a ruleset which involves equipment to the degree that both of these systems do, but then to go a step further and say 'except just handwave it' is, as mentioned above, at-odds with the ruleset. Best to use a different system entirely at that point.

RE: Dark Ages Vampire -- Terra Mariana
@the-sands So... I just have to make Sally's concept 'Unbeatable swordswoman who can never be killed,' thus making losing physical combat or death a violation of my concept! Easy peasy.
This is probably getting to the point where a new social combat thread can be started, which I'll get around to. But if you MUST HAVE AGENCY ALL THE TIME, there can be merits that buff your social defenses. Take all of them, and accept that you no longer have the points to be One Punch Man in physical combat as a result.

RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu
Also! New Exalted Kickstarter for those so inclined.
ETA: Glancing over the preview manuscript and reading all the thing, this LOOKS like an supplement/alt rule set attempting to make it less crunchy? So could help solve some of Exalted's barrier to entry.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
If we're going zany with Final Fantasy, bring forth the grid from the Saga Edition SW game, for TACTICS. Also a thing that forces players to choose a powerset. Sure, you can be a dinosaur that has ALL the jobs. But you can't use all your SWAG simultaneously.

Social 'Combat': the hill I will die on (because I took 0 things for physical combat)
Obligatory thread to cut down on off-topic discussion for Dark Age Vampire fun.
Firearms attacks with 5 successes are abstract, because we assume you aren't holding the gun upside down, pulling the trigger with your thumb while your eyes are closed (note to self: use this for future gunbunny).
Social dice rolls, meanwhile, are often opposed because of an assortment of reasons. The one I am going to discuss first involves similar assumptions: that a 5 success persiasion roll involves adequate body language, tone, facial expressions, reaction to social cues (possibly via an empathy roll), and... anything else I am forgetting. Social cues that people often do not include in their poses, so the cannot even be attempted to be responded to.
Further, we operate solely through a text medium. How many times a day do you see the words 'Text does not convey sarcasm'? I see it in nearly every discussion.

RE: RL Sads
Before the lockdown started, my grandmother (who lived in Great Neck - not technically one of the NYC Boroughs, but dealing with all that shit) was going through... uh... one form of chemotherapy or another. Everything closing definitely wasn't helpful to her health - she had phone conference calls with doctors, but no way to have scans or bloodwork or anything. The slow re-opening happening, last friday, she went to see her doctor for the first time in two months. And he immediately sent her to the emergency room.
Clots in her legs, some other stuff... most of it was taken care of. Except for that whole 'your breast cancer is now stage 4' bit. They sent her to a rehab hospital yesterday... ish. The 29th? With plans to go to a nursing home when she recovered enough to do so.
Except she didn't recover enough. I literally just got off the phone with my siblings and parents, and no one knows what's going to happen. Catholics have pretty strict timelines for funerals, but fuck knows when travel bans will be lifted, or when gatherings will be allowed, or how long it will take to get through any possible other backlog that's happened.
Fuck Covid. Fuck Cancer.

RE: Star Wars or Starfinder?
My biggest issue with Star Finder is how it brings the flaws of D&D to space. I dislike levels and vancian magic.
D&D-sque Fantasy in SPACE would be cool. I would play the shit out of Spelljammer. Buuuuut... like, I would need it to use some other, non-D&D-based ruleset. Cause boo levels.
