Oh, wait this takes work, and history has proven that any monitored list is just a lot of work that either is dropped by the roadside or just months behind like mushcode.com's list. Not monitored is just free-for-all on the mud sites (top mud sites, mudconnector), that while folks on those sites can critique and criticize in the their respective forums, there is no way for potential players to get freely offered critiques and criticisms.

You seem to forget just how OBSESSES MU culture has become with wikis. This will go amazingly.

@bored said in Whatever Happened To Star Wars MU*s?:

Are people (out of those here, I guess) very intrinsically interested in any of the particular (d6/d20/dFunnySymbols) systems?

Yes. Literally 50% of the reason I bailed of Age of Alliances, and a full 90% why I never really got into Dawn of Defiance/Generations of Darkness, are system-based.

I've talked a bit about how I think FFG's system is a terrible choice for MUing, but it's not like the prior ones are all that great either.

I am in the opposite boat - I think it is an awesome choice. I absolutely LOATHE the all-or-nothing dice rolls of other systems. If whoever is STing says 'bad happens, even though dice good', the shit hits the fan, ooc.

Advantages, disadvantages, triumphs, dispair... all of that gives a wider spread of fanciness that can happen in RP. It ESPECIALLY encourages cooperative storytelling, where you can suggest to spend X advantage on Y thing happening... rather than leaving it all on the ST to do for you, OR put them in a place to say 'no, Y does not happen, there are no rules for it'

Edit to add: I'm not saying that having some sort of space trucker/flight simulation is REQUIRED or anything. But it's a moderately sized factor for me. I don't want simulated battle! Just... something to kill time between scenes. With maybe a trading system latched on. Plz. We needs it, precious.

@Auspice It's almost like Marvel learned from their mistakes, but despite how publicly said mistakes were, others refused to take the lesson to heart.

I spent monies on the flight stick with an extremely LEWD name. And then bought another one.

Wait, what is this? Link me!

THRUSTMASTER - it's... uh... the company name, so not quite as LEWD. But there's TWO of them, so whee?

(Not that I've figured out how to make the thing work yet, though. Ugh.)

      EDIT FOR NON-DOUBLE POST

@Jaded said in General Video Game Thread:

Anyone who is interested in getting the Battletech game, there's a day or two left before the October Humble Bundle releases and it's the primary game for the monthly at $12. You get the game and ~$25 in DLC with it, on top of whatever other games are released with the monthly.

The Hairbrained Scheme game, or is there a different one I didn't see come out?

      All of the yes.

I am shocked that there's not really the usual spike of visible/verbal interest that usually comes with new media. We've got the Mandalorian, the new Jedi game, and Episode 9 like... 33 days away.

@Rinel It's an RPG that is designed in such a way as to easily elicit the ever-vague FEEL that you might have while watching or reading Anime or Manga.

The biggest issue is that it is a whole industry lumped into one, while a Movie RPG would be an RPG around a specific Movie or Cinematic Universe... or a book RPG being an RPG around a specific Book of Series.

WoD as a baseline for Magicians could work; you literally just make people buy a rote for every damn spell they want to do, with little to no creative thaumaturgy outside of that.

    • RE: Interest Check: Exalted 3rd ed Mu

@Surasanji I am of mixed feelings on the two ideas. On the one hand, terrestrial primary solves the 'I am in Gem for breakfast, teleport to Nexus for Lunch, and have Dinner in the private underwater Manse in the far western ocean' issue. More specifically, the 'my character is in every plot' spotlight hog. IT ALSO MEANS BLESSED ISLE POLITICS!!!

On the other hand, I loves me some Solar/Lunar chicanery, so.

      shrug!

Perhaps the second, but restrict location/travel stuff? This could be mitigated by a higher than normal alt cap, but limited by region. This could ALSO open up all of Creation for plots and RP and such!

AS FOR CODE... I believe Volund has 2e, 2.5e, and 3e all pre-coded and free for use, but it uses Evennia, not Ares. It should have logging incorporated. If memory serves, it saves server-side so you can access it via client OR website. But saved in .txt, so you need to export it to the wiki somehow.

Please do not use the wiki formats used in the past. They hurt my brain. MediaWiki or Wikidot, plz.

I will toss out there that everyone refusing to do the politic talks is a prime cause of our current shitstorm (which makes more people refuse to talk about it, causing more of a shitstorm... a self-sustaining loop!) To be further discussed behind closed doors, because there are zero adults left, I guess.

So also, I'd like to mention the death of political discourse (sometime waaay before 2019... in the MU community, it died when the first person were banned for doing a politic on pub chan, rather than the designated pol chan or whatever. But. It is what it is.)

@surasanji Sweet. I know I'm weirdly picky about the chargen:xp ratio thing, but it's not a requirement.

Now I gotta dust of my 3e books and see if anyone who backed Lunars doesn't want the Shiney collector book anymore (I clicked the remind me button on Kickstart, but missed the email. Woe.)

Good lord please someone make a sky pirate game.

Question: Does it work if all the landmasses are floating sky islands and such and no one ever goes down to the surface below the clouds, or do skyships lose their pizzazz if everything is up in the sky?

Suggesting the Aeronaut's Windlass for Sky Boats. The ground is full of doom and things what will eat you. So Jim Butcher will probably explore it in book 3?

If no SPACE, the BTMux code could be kit bashed easier. MAYBE.

@Jaded I'm a NERD who uses a HOSAS/dual-stick setup, works okay aside from constantly forgetting which way to twist the stick for up/down thrust/strafe. Also need to re-bind the engage frame drive, because it's weird, but fine.

And NOT ONLY Battlefleet Gothic. ALL Warhammer stuff is on sale, by the looks of it.

    • RE: How do you construct your characters?

I am obviously backwards from everyone else, in that I will build a sheet first, and then tweek it as needed. Because we can all say in the background or whatever that you are competant or excel at x, y, or z, but if the cg method prevents you from doing so? I dislike the disconnect there.

As I emphasize the sheet in my mentality, I also take advancement into account. I don't care about min-maxing from a stat/dice efficacy standpoint, but if it is better, xp-wise, to do it one way, then that is the way that I do it.

I find that this helps with some aspects, as it makes flaws almost easier to pick (wow, you are heavily invested in social skills? Let's grab some things that mix that up, or something else that plays up the lack of physical stuffs even more), with a drawback of being hyper-focused and lacking in some depth.

I am my most free with 2e WoD, because I don't HAVE to min-max for xp. Also, the beat system encourages giving yourself goals and directing your rp, gping so far as to reward you for being a go-getter, instead of just slumming it in a bar for votes.

@surasanji Did 3e keep the 300/300/100 shard cap? I thought they returned to a more vague/unspoken number, while also introducing new types of Exalts?
