@kay They're one of those items in life where quality really does mean you need to shell out a little bit (or moderate amount) more, and you'll have it for life. Sometimes, just look for sales.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@packrat You don't. They'll be with you forever. :points to her copper bottoms, stainless steel: I will take those over my cheapie teflons from earlier in my life. 14 years and counting and they're still pretty damn fine. Now get yourself a nice 7 quart enamelware dutch oven! Worth the cost.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@arkandel Our local theatre is nothing but heated recliners. They jacked the prices 5 bucks, but it means we just don't get popcorn. So nice.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@sockmonkey Thursdays is when I have most of a day off from work. So for whatever reason, my brain was thinking it was thursday already. It's just been that kind of a day.
On the upside, I laid down more grass seed, so, hey won't have to water that shit tonight or tomorrow morning! Silver lining?

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@sockmonkey See, my night is so fucked, I think it's Thursday.
Which explains why Grey's anatomy is not on.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@auspice Is potato still broken for Sierra? They tried to figure it out and then they came up with a 'Well download this, to run it with this, and after about the fifth step I just said fuck it and stopped trying. Will Atlantis nest tabs within the single window?

RE: The Crafting Thread
@Auspice I used to do a ton of them, but unemployment struck the husband and now I work and money goes to bills. So I participate in just a few now and then, and usually if I know I can do something homemade or have a little bit saved up to do it. Kid won a bunch of star wars stuff at Christmas in a contest, so the star wars one was easy, just wait and see who he got and then pick from in that (stuff he didn't want) and then 3d print out something. He's deciding whether to print out a bunch of death stars and make a mobile too, for the baby.

RE: The Crafting Thread
God, what do I have going? Too many irons in the fire. I'm doing a star wars gift exchange and the folks want something for their baby, his bedroom is star wars. So currently 3Dprinting out the doll that Jin Erso had as a kid and will have to assemble it and send. I have a quilt going - by hand this one wtf was I thinking - of the WoW horde symbol, that's slow going. I also have to finish off the rest of a quilt for the little girl I look after, her birthday is in a month. I have a 1/4 of it left to quilt and then bind. But where I'll find time for it all who the hell knows. After that, I already have other things lined up. Doctor Who quilt for an old MU friend of mine for their as yet unborn, and then maybe finish my sweater I'm knitting. Maybe.
Mind you, looking up in this thread, there is some awesome crafting happening!

RE: Good TV
@Jaded He really is. It was jarring to walk into the livingroom with my husband watching justified, and then go back to the kitchen to bake and the Santa Clarita Diet be toggled on. So vastly different characters, the voice so different, but still that goofy smile and smirk. He was so much more softer spoken and his cadence was brilliant, then in justified, harsher, the twang, it's hilarious.
I'm finished already, going in for a second watching of SCD since I have no kids this weekend and can binge it proper. I want second season now please :taps her inner elbow: NOW PLEASE.

RE: Good TV
@Lithium My husband wondered what the hell I was watching. 'Zombie suburban hijinks!'. He just walked away. But I adored it. Barrymore was Barrymore as usual but Olyphant was fantastic.

RE: RL Anger
@Catsmeow Have a bachelor's degree? Look into your local school district and find out how to become a substitute teacher, the kind that doesn't have a teaching degree. Here they call it substitute authorization. You have to jump through a few hoops, like taking a week long class on how to manage the kids, discipline etc etc "A.K.A You are not babysitters, you WILL be teaching" and then background checks and fingerprint checks, make sure you have hard copies or e-copies of your transcripts from university/college. It's a flexible job, that depending on the district can be decent pay. Here, it's like 16 or 18 bucks an hour to substitute teach. hubby makes 100 bucks a day after taxes if he does a full day. Allows you the flexibility to job hunt as well.
Also, if you're former military, check out Lucas Groups and get on their list of "I want to attend your conferences for jobs" as they specialize in finding jobs for folks with a military background.

RE: New Kushiel Game
@Arkandel That will be the crux of it. Those who are taking up the mantle of staff, are also required to spend one night/day a week, devoted to NPCing. Ideally, they would do more, but at a minimum, they are to make themselves available for that one day a week to fulfill player requests, or to run one off scenes that are part of minor and major plot. Or even just a flavour-filled one off scene. Because sometimes you just want bandits on the road and make yourself look really good in front of the ladies clutching their pearls!

RE: New Kushiel Game
@Arkandel So what we have settled on, and we're still open to constructive criticism on this, is that the higher ranks - those who are royal/line of success - are NPC held. They will be brought out for scenes as they are needed/requested.
The sovereign ducals, will also be NPC'd, residing within their respective provinces and brought to the city when needed/requested with respect to travel times/season. The lesser step ducals, will be placed as feature characters. These characters will be NPC'd until someone applies for them and has gone through an audition. Should someone decide that they don't like them, don't want to play them, up and disappears and doesn't return for an agreed upon time, the character will be placed back in the roster, to be picked up. Offing them, will be a last resort. Someone is always willing to take up a ducal character previously played, if they're incentivized enough. But those ducals, right off the bat, are not being made available. As we want to offer up the middle and lower noble ranks first and there is room to rise and fall within our setting and honestly, the chain of responsibility means that shit that's going down with a baron, should be dealt with by their comte, and so on and so forth.
That said, our quasi-solution (and we're hoping this works!) Is that while the sovereign ducals are not in town, their appointed //heirs// are, and will be available as features as well, to be the liaison between the ducals and their vassals. Because we all know, you do something wrong and next thing you know, daddy/mommy are deciding that your sibling, or your cousin or what have you is the better person for the seat down the road. This improves on the stability issue, would provide enough incentive to get involved as well, if there's the potential to rise, as well as fall.

New Kushiel Game
Since we have set some things finally in concrete - and we watched and replied on the boards here and invite a handful of folks to come give opinions and heavily weighed the pro's and cons, debated it on Skype and all that fun stuff - I'm going to drop the forums address here for those who are interested. We are intending to be an alternative option for those who enjoy the Kushiel theme. We will be working through policies, rules, theme, you name it. There is a singular board that is only for moderators, and that is because that is where plot is being dropped to be mulled and tweaked and we'd like to keep that at least, a little hush hush in case any of you decide to play.
http://eluasprecept.freeforums.net
We are going to strive to do our best to take everyone's thoughts and opinions into account. I know that there have been those who are unhappy with our choices, and that is their right to be. We acknowledge that. But we hope too that you can find a home here. We are starting to move forward with the wiki, double checking and triple checking dates, information in the books and ascertaining that we are not accidentally copying information from other previous iterations both active and inactive of the theme.
We welcome you if you see an error, to let us know so that we can fix it. Or if we missed something important. Our goal from this point forward, is transparency where applicable - nope, you still don't get to see the staff plot board! - and to have us up and running as soon as possible. Help us make this a game that you would enjoy playing on. Once we have more things set in concrete, we'll be dealing with hosting, and servers, coding and all that other fun stuff. But baby steps first!

RE: Kushiel Game
@Cupcake Potential staff. We are not going with a modern setting of the theme. But we have settled on where and when. Some fierce debate but we found a compromise that makes everyone running it, happy. I would totally play in a Kings themed game though!
Hopefully we have something more concrete for folks in a few more days, but we are actively pressing forward, have procured a domain name even and :shivers: My day off from work has been productive! I think folks who are interested in playing the theme will be pleased to have an alternative to the current offerings out there.

RE: Kushiel Game
@Three-Eyed-Crow If netflix was doing their original series stuff then, like they are now, it would likely have survived, the creators would I surmise, have approached netflix, or maybe even Hulu. I still try to find it now and then and watch. It was that enjoyable.
