RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@auspice No, you weren't "talked to" about your activity. You approached us and said you were sorry, that you weren't trying to camp out on a character, but that you were very busy.
And yeah, I'm not a fan of huge scenes, either. Trying to follow everything gives me a headache.
Edited for clarity: I believe you brought it up on a channel, not privately.

RE: Encouraging Proactive Players
@faraday I definitely don't agree. If you want to 'vent', whine, and complain, do it to your friends. They are the people who know you aren't usually like that and you're just being a person (which yes, everyone is and does). Don't whine on channels about other people getting things. Don't whine publicly about people not loving your char or not responding to you fast enough. That isn't just a player being human, that's a player being a negative brat.
And if you let that shit fly, your environment becomes INUNDATED with it. Everyone should be free to whine and snark and complain /sometimes/, right? Wrong. Wrong, or the whining and complaining will overwhelm the atmosphere.

especially when systems throw in a lot of skills that everyone should have to some extent, like Athletics, Persuasion, Awareness, Driving, etc.
Wait, why should everyone have these, though? People don't all have these skills. Like driving I get, imo you should be able to be fine driving a car baseline but maybe you aren't a stunt driver or a getaway driver or a street racer unless you invest in that skill.

RE: Good TV
Ep 8 or 9, and all I have to say here is that KAREN WORKS REALLY HARD AND SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR SHIT, OK.

RE: Make it fun for Me!
This doesn't have to be so polarizing. When I said to players of Arx to consider what was fun for those around them, I never said "at the expense of all your own fun" or meant for anyone to be a doormat. But what I saw a lot of were complaints, both direct and aimless, that people have a hard time getting involved, or that other players seem to misunderstand them or avoid scenes with them. At which point it's like...ok, if you find that people don't seem to want to be around you, have you tried being fun to be around?

Hot tea is a slice of heaven anytime, but being sick sucks. Get well soon!

RE: D&D 5E
Once @pax is done with her exploration room system for Evennia, a game that automates adventuring would be totally doable!

RE: RL Anger
Yeah that's kind of the definition of a hostile work environment, I would think.

What a rich and fertile ground for storytelling! Problem: no great setting or narrative element survives (a lot of) players. So if you do it well, and it's popular, you'll have people doing social scenes and bar rp and sleepovers, etc, in your stressful/limited/dangerous environment. Unless you have a team that can commit to offering NON STOP STORY to keep people from drifting into these comfort zones to amuse themselves. Maybe even if you do.
I've never understood this objection. Social RP is what drives MUSHing. Like... what do you think people should be playing instead when they log in 4-5 days a week? Scenes where they wander through the forest looking for berries? Or through houses scavenging for another can of soup? Boiling water? Tending crops? Day to day survival is tedious and freaking boring. I don't blame anyone for falling back to drinking moonshine around a campfire and socializing whenever there's a lull in the zombies/bandits/plague/whatever. I don't even find it that unrealistic - I think people in that sort of environment would crave connection and normalcy, or at least the illusion thereof.
Why do people need to be logged in to the game 4-5 days a week? I don't think a game that wants to focus and MAINTAIN a setting of scarcity, danger, and discomfort can measure success in the same way others do. I'm not objecting to social Rp. I'm saying some settings are damaged by it.

A lot of people ignorantly think that you have to defend copyright or you lose it. I don't actually believe any real lawyers are telling any authors that they must say no, though. Its just a sort of urban legend that floats around and people claim to be true.
I mean, I said that because I read an author blog about it, but I'm sure they were lying or ignorant and you are definitely in the know.

"They" are incorrect.
The prank is the lowest form of humour. And the April Fool's Day joke is the lowest form of prank.
I said EXACTLY this at dinner earlier. I hate April Fool's Day. I hate pranks. Suddenly everyone is a HILARIOUS IMP. So many clever girls, and I'm just waiting for the asteroid.

RE: Interest Check: Ancient Greek RP
@zombiegenesis wait, you want what, then? Camp is sort of part and parcel to most peoples' familiarity with Fantastical Ancient Greece. It's not just Xena/ Hercules. It's Clash of the Titans. It's even that newer movie with the really zany hats and Henry Cavill.

It's interesting that people immediately jump to call "bullshit". And by interesting, I mean completely typical.

@Kanye-Qwest What I would say is that in all of my time gaming I've never seen girls treated like that at all, and even more so as openly as that article.
Bully for you. You realize you're saying if a behavior isn't something you have noticed, it's unlikely to be happening? You seem like a smart and reasonable person, surely I don't have to explain the flaw in that logic.
Your experience does not in any way, shape, or form dictate another person's experience, and to my original point - the assumption that something didn't happen because you didn't see it is a large part of the problem.
Whether or not all the things described in that article happened to the author, all the things described in that article do happen. It behooves us as human beings to let conversations about them happen, too.

You throw a 'cunt' out there, it's armageddon again. And before someone tries to apply critical theory to my argument: please don't. You can't have it both ways. Either do it in the absolute or don't do it at all.
I think someone asked nicely if it could not be used. That's what you call armageddon? Need a safe space?
