Just another caution re: Invincible. While it does subvert some stuff, it doesn't subvert enough imo to overcome how blatantly it just rips off entire characters and arcs from other things. You have to do more than just show a reference to be a satire, and you can't call it an homage if you are just lifting things unironically.

I had to bail out because it was just WAY too derivative, and I predicted le big twist immediately based off of the material it was ripping off. Looked up spoilers, and I was right! Meh.

Think we're hanging out with different groups of engineers, then.

      lol I am an engineer.

The site is pretty lite on game setting information. What are the guidelines around making pcs that aren't men? Can they hold any job or are they relegated to period accurate things?

"Coffee shop" rp (AKA rp amongst yourselves) should be at least half of your rp on a game. Otherwise, you probably aren't roleplaying a character so much as playing the world's crappiest video game.

You can murder 20 people a day on the battlefield and no one cares. Murder 1 person in a game set in modern times and you'll be hunted for life.

This has nothing to do with modern morals. In fact, I'd say human life is at a very low value in these modern times, and most crimes are not investigated much, if at all. There are absolutely hundreds of murders on the daily that no one is hunted for LIFE over.

But more relevant, you are also representing MU players wrong. Players in a battletech mu would not disregard the death of a PC, no matter what the setting is. They'd disregard the death of an NPC, sure, but they do that in games with 'modern' morals, too. The setting doesn't dictate nearly as much of player behavior as you suggest.

That chart sucks. Sure is plenty of Shonen fluff. Conspicuously low on Shojo. weird!

Two things I wish I knew before watching Cowboy Bebop:

      1. Its treatment of PoC was already disappointing and it's aged even worse. So, just be prepared for some heavy sighing.

      2. The lack of consistency throughout each episode bothered me until I was able to look at the show from a different lens: the main characters aren't the main characters. They're extras in other characters' stories. Spike, Jet, Faye, and Ed - they only get about 2 - 3 episodes each that focus on themselves; otherwise, the episodes are all about the lives of other characters.

Yeah, my read is that the whole series was about these people who were stuck in inertia, and you can only contextualize their arcs by the stories they observe or play some small part in. Until the end, where they do all at least get to move on, if not be resolved. Haven't watched in awhile, was actually planning a quaranrewatch, so will brace myself.

Surely a pattern would surface, yes?

If you think so, I salute you. Having tried to untangle those types of conflicts several times, I can say from my experience it is not easy. It's not even doable, sometimes.

Or my favorite, someone is upset they can't get included in something, and you find out the people who could include them just don't really want to play with them. Do you think you can/should force people to interact with other people? If so, how do you think you can accomplish that in a way that doesn't cause a lot of resentment?

@carma player a is convinced player b is shutting them out of a plot because they are mad about some random other squabble player a was involved in.

How does anyone prove a motivation? Player b insists player a just didn't ask before someone else did. Or they missed a message. Or they tell you ACTUALLY it is player a that has it out for THEM

"The game brings out the worst in people" is inaccurate at best and an excuse at worst.

or it's just truthy. It's not even a statement that invites or allows quantification. You can SAY it's inaccurate, but by what measure? It's an opinion, and your opinion that it's an excuse is an opinion, and at the end of the day sometimes you should just let people talk about things to attempt communication and connection.

or pick apart things according to standards that don't exist, whatever.
