    • RE: How are you coping with COVID (and other 2020 fun)?

Yeah it's weird how RP seems like a lot of..work, right now? Almost anything I have to focus on mentally does. I haven't really been watching new shows or movies, even, because the idea of sitting still and actually paying attention to something for an hour feels exhausting.

when a scene gets silly and hilarious but does it in a way where it reflects how the characters play off each other and highlights aspects of their personalities that aren't always apparent, instead of just being LOLRANDOM.

Also pooping and peeing on Firan not being coded was a common Firan meme.

Pooping wasn't a thing. I'm fairly certain that people didn't have anuses.

That'd explain why I never did anal on Firan.

I'm also fairly certain that was the reason they decided not to have anuses.

this has been dumb forever. There's lots about firan to criticize or mock legitimately but gamerunners wanting to handwave stuff they don't want to code or deal with RP about is perfectly reasonable.

hyperactivity is only one way adhd manifests. The other types are 'inattentive' and 'mixed'. One of the reasons women don't get diagnosed as much is that they tend to exhibit inattentive symptoms more than hyperactive ones. Looking back, I can definitely tell i was super hyperactive ADHD as a kid, but the older I got I got way more 'inattentive". My brain is still hyperactive, though. Hence why I am always exhausted.

Sooo does anyone else have the anti-routine problem? I was always told if you did things for more than 2 weeks they become a routine. For me I can maintain a new routine perfectly for 2 weeks and then I completely lose track of it and can't pick it up again.

my psychiatrist told me very quickly in my time with her that the 2 week/30 day things are myths. Habits actually take between 60-90 days to solidly form, for most people

Yeah, I think this is pure business. "People aren't gonna wanna watch a movie about a pandemic during the midst of COVID-19, so let's do something else, because what we are doing is making a movie to sell and make money."

This is actually one of my biggest problems with this idea of 'cancel culture'. Really, as far as I can tell, it's just capitalism in operation. If I don't like an author, I don't buy their books. If enough people do that, they become unprofitable. If a movie's themes don't interest me, or I have moral issues with some part of it, I don't go and see it. If a studio thinks that a certain theme won't make enough money, they just won't make the film.

No one's getting cancelled, they're just not making money.

      Capitalism sucks.

@SixRegrets said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:

'Cancel culture' is nothing more than the right's latest replacement for 'political correctness'. If you act like an asshole, you should expect consequences. Contra's bigoted bullshit re: transmedicalism and being best buddies with Buck Angel are more than reason enough for the rest of the transgender community to 'cancel' her.

I mean. I guess if you define being best buddies as "getting the idea to ask someone to read a VO line, and them agreeing." yikes

@Sparks Me too! until I got diagnosed and started reading about sensory things. Except substitute "ashley" for "rachel". I couldn't wear standard t shirts until they started making them out of the insanely soft and stretchy material with wider necks. I can't even wear necklaces that hang right in the hollow of the throat. And yeah - loose layers, ugh. I can't even sleep in pajama pants because they drive me crazy under the covers.

sensory sensitivity is an ADHD thing, yes. I cut tags out of clothes, and I can't wear any tshirt or anything that puts even the slightest bit of pressure around my neck. Above my collarbone, really. I feel like it's choking me. Also, I chew my lips constantly. Which I never thought of as a symptom, before. OH BOY.

    • RE: How to move beyond a concept?

A world is not the most important part of the game imo. Start bigger. What do you want the theme of the game to be? What will the stories be exploring? How do you want your players to spend their time and focus? Then adjust your world and rules/systems (If you have them) to those goals.

      I've been hyperfocusing bad lately.

I mean, I've been getting a lot done crafting-wise, but it's also 6am and it's only by force of will I'm dragging myself to bed.

Why can't I hyperfocus at reasonable hours gdi?!

      Also:
has anyone tried one of those water bottles that reminds you to drink water? I'm debating one because I think this cycle of hyperfocus is leading to me being dehydrated. And I wonder if an external reminder might help.

b/c there are more expectations and distractions during the day. more stuff you feel like you SHOULD be doing keeping you from slipping into that zone
