ok but like, what about? What are the standards? If you want to mod (and I am not saying I am against modding, I mod the FUCK out of arx), you have to have standards that you are applying consistently, across the board. It can't just be a 'do what you feel, man'.

You guys should probably not be modding beyond splitting off threads that have quite obviously gone down the hole until you have an idea of what policies you want to enforce. You've - meaning the three of you as a group - been all over the place.

If you just want to ban spammers and 4chan trolls, fine. No need to hammer anything out. If you want to be threatening longtime posters with nebulous "you'll be unwelcome", or make suggestions on content in the hog pit, you probably ought to have your story straight. Both for yourselves, and so people will know what to expect and whether or not they want to expect it.

First, I think about what I wanna do in the game. How I want to spend my time. Do I want to be a snarky barfly, or do I want to try and get into politics, or do I want to play with X code system.

Then I get distracted by a random inspiration for a name, and build a character around that for awhile. Maybe work up a theme song, do some google image search for a played by so I can think of a desc.

Then I tell myself to stop dicking around and be more reasonable and I go back to thinking about what type of personality I want to play.

Then I get an idea related to the name again and start merging all these influences into a skeleton of a character.

Then I decide to just rework a character I've played before, because it'll be easier. Commence waffling.

Then I stall out on desc for about an hour, browsing old descs and realizing I'm not great at writing interesting ones.

Then I just throw some shit together, whatever, they've got eyes and they are tall (probably).

Then I get into CG and flail at the code (and maybe give up).

@sparks That's awful, I'm so sorry. I had to use a week's vacation to recover (ha) from my foot surgery, and I was salty about it.

I personally really love playing short term antagonists, or doomed whatevers. I wouldn't even need XP

man my last few haircuts I had to convince my stylist I wanted more gone. Like no, really. Yes I know it's long and pretty. CUT IT DAMN YOU. And now I have my own pixie cut I'll come to regret intensely as soon as I decide to grow it out.

@tnp Thank you (thank everyone for kind words) but mine is from the nerve block that got put in by the back of my knee. All my pain is between my calf and my toes (as well as TO INFINITY AND BEYOND, it feels like).

Audiobooks are really good for commuting or for when you are exercising, I've found - as long as you aren't trying to time high intensity intervals. I listened to them a lot walking my puppo, when I could walk. T.T

@arkandel typical opiate painkillers aren't any good for nerve pain, I'm learning. So, they haven't prescribed me anything of the sort. I saw my surgeon yesterday (this stems from a pre-surgical nerve block they gave me) and I just started an anticonvulsant medication they give to epileptics, but it takes time to build up. I'm sitting in my office trying to concentrate enough to work, waiting for a specialist referred by my anaesthesiologist to contact me to talk about actual pain management strategies.

He mentioned an antidepressant that can be used to treat this type of pain, but IDK yet. I'm just trying to get through it. The surgeon says it SHOULD heal over time.

Fuck a whole lot of having a damaged sciatic nerve.

There is no debating it, Kvothe is the mary-est mary sue in all the land. I enjoyed those two books, but just...barely. Rothfuss' prose is great. It's really, really good, and he introduced a couple of other characters that I liked a lot, but UGH. Fuck off Kvothe with being the best and the cleverest and the danny rand and the most irresistible and the smartest. That character is straight out of fan fiction.

I think it speaks to just how good the prose is that it kept me engaged despite the horrible train wreck of a protagonist. I wish he'd just write seven books about Elodin.

First Law is great. Stormlight Archives are far and away the best stuff Sanderson has written. They are good.
